Carlin’s surgical deconstruction of language exposes the cognitive laziness behind our daily idioms, proving that true skepticism begins with the words we take for granted. It is a masterclass in linguistic philosophy disguised as comedy that remains intellectually unmatched.

YOU'LL HEAR WORDS DIFFERENTLY AFTER THIS | George Carlin - Expressions and Sayings | ReactionAdded:
What's up, guys? Clip Beast. Don't skip off the rip with the one and only Ready >> Benny in the Jets. That's where she's getting it from. Uh, what's up, guys? We have George Carlin expressions and sayings. Uh, do us a favor. Go like, go subscribe. Please show love to the official George Carlin page. Um, that's not on this channel, but I couldn't find this. You guys kept saying you wanted expressions and sayings. As I said, you guys are uh in control of this channel.
But what you ask for, you shall receive.
George Carlin seems to be a big staple.
People love when we check out George Carlin. I think it's because one, he's funny, but two, he makes you kind of rethink the way you see things. Yep.
>> And I like that. It's like a philosophical uh way he goes about his routines, which I really love. You ready to rock?
>> Ready to roll.
>> In other words, the man's a damn genius.
Let's see what George Carlin's got here with expressions and sayings. Go like, go, subscribe to George Carlin, please.
We'd love to have you too if you want more.
>> Okay.
>> Now, this next thing, this next thing is about the English language. It's about little expressions we use. We we all say them, the little sayings and expressions that we use all the time, most of us.
And we never really seem to examine these expressions very carefully at all.
We just sort of say these things as if they really made sense.
>> You hear somebody go, "Fuck yeah."
>> Yeah, I heard that, >> dick.
>> Carefully at all. We just sort of say these things as if they really made sense. Like legally drunk.
Well, if it's legal, WHAT'S THE [ __ ] PROBLEM?
HEY, leave my friend alone, officer. He's legally drunk.
You know where you can stick it. Why do we always assume everyone knows where they can stick it? Suppose you don't know. Suppose you're a new guy.
You have absolutely no idea where to stick it. I think there ought to be a government booklet entitled Where to Stick It. Now that I think of it, I believe there is a government booklet like that. They send it to you on April 15th.
OH, >> undisputed heavyweight champion.
>> Well, if it's undisputed, what's all the fighting about?
It's the quiet ones you got to watch.
You know that one. Every time you see a story about a serial killer on TV, what do they do? They bring on the neighbor.
And the neighbor says, "Well, he was always very quiet."
And someone in the room says, "It's the quiet ones you got to watch." This sounds to me like a very dangerous assumption. I will bet you anything that while you're watching a quiet one, a noisy one will [ __ ] kill you.
Suppose you're in a bar and one guy sitting over in the side reading a book, not bothering anybody, another guy standing up at the front with a machete, banging on the bar, SAYING, "I'LL KILL THE NEXT [ __ ] WHO COMES IN HERE."
WHO are you going to watch?
You're goddamn right.
Lock him up and throw away the key. This is really stupid. Where are you going to throw the key? Right out in front of the jail. HIS FRIENDS WILL FIND IT. HOW far can you throw a key? 50, 60 ft the most.
Even if you lay it flat on its side like that and you scale it, what do you get?
at an extra 10 ft tops. This is a stupid idea. Needs to be completely rethought down the tubes. Get that one a lot.
People say, "Ah, the country is going down the tubes."
What tubes?
Have you seen any tubes? Where are these tubes? And where do they go?
And how come there's more than one tube?
It would seem to me one country, one tube. What does every state all of a sudden have to have its own tube now?
One tube is all you need. But a tube that big, somebody would have seen it by now. Somebody would have said, "Joey, Joey, look at a [ __ ] tube."
[ __ ] tube over here. You never hear that. You know why? No tubes. We don't have tube one.
We are essentially tubeless.
Takes the cake, you know. See, boy, he really takes the cake.
Where?
Where do you take a cake? To the movies.
You know where I would take a cake? Down to the bakery to see the other cakes.
And how come he takes the cake? How come you don't take the pie?
Pie is easier to carry than the cake.
Easy as pie.
Oh, wait.
>> Cake is not too hard to carry either.
>> That was clever.
>> He's just playing with us at this point.
It's easy as pie.
>> See, this is what I'm talking about. He makes you think about everything from a different perspective.
>> It's pie.
>> Oh, wait. Cake is not too hard to carry either. Piece of cake.
another word.
>> The greatest thing since sliced bread.
So this is it, huh folks?
Couple of hundred thousand years.
The [ __ ] pyramids for Christ's sakes.
Panama Canal, the Great Wall of China, even a lava lamp.
to me is greater than sliced bread.
What's so great about sliced bread? You got a knife, you got a loaf OF BREAD, SLICE THE [ __ ] thing and get on with your life.
Out walking the streets, you know, guy gets a parole, they say, "No, instead of being in prison, this guy is out walking the streets."
How do we know?
Maybe the guy's home banging the babysitter.
Not everybody gets a parole is out walking the [ __ ] streets. A lot of times they they steal a car, you know, and we ought to be glad. Thank god he stole a car. At least he's not out walking the streets.
Smart ass. Fine and dandy.
That's an oldfashioned one, isn't he?
Yeah. Say to a guy, "How are you?" She's fine and dandy.
Not me. I never say that. You know how come? Cuz I'm never both of those things at the same time. Sometimes I'm fine.
Not dandy.
Close to dandy approaching dandy in the vicinity of dandyhood.
Not quite fully dandy. Other times I am indeed highly dandy.
However, not fine.
One time, one time 1965 August for about an hour. I was both fine and dandy at the same time. BUT NOBODY ASKED ME HOW I WAS.
And I could have told him. I critical.
>> I wonder what was happening at that exact moment when he was fine and dandy.
He was very specific with that date. So, it makes me curious. Yeah, it must be something important in his life. If someone knows that, comment down below.
>> I could have told I could have said to the person fine and dandy, I consider it a lost opportunity.
walking papers.
You know, guy gets fired, you say, "Geez, poor guy."
Well, they give him his walking papers today.
Did you ever get any walking papers?
Seriously, believe me, in my life, I got fired a lot of times.
You can tell.
Never got any walking papers. Never got a pink slip either. You know what I would get? A guy would come around to my desk AND SAY, "GET THE [ __ ] OUT OF HERE."
At least you got that. I got a phone call. Made no sense.
You don't need paper for that.
It's like the riot act. The riot act.
They keep telling you they're going to read that to you.
Have you heard this thing at all?
Especially when you're a kid, they threaten you. You wait your father comes home, he's going to read you the riot act. Tell them I already read it myself and I didn't like >> Have you ever heard that before? The riot act. I've never heard that one.
>> No, I've never heard that.
>> I heard that one either.
>> Riot act. Tell him I already read it myself and I didn't like it either. I consider it wordy and poorly thought out.
>> He wants to read me something. How about the gentleman's guide to the golden age of [ __ ] more than happy.
I bet you say that sometimes, don't you?
Once in a while, you say to somebody, "Oh, I'd be more than happy to do that."
How can you be more than happy?
To me, this sounds like a dangerous mental condition.
We had to put Dave in the mental home.
He was Whoa. Oh, more than happy.
One more of these. In your own words.
People say that to you. You know, you when you hear that a lot in a classroom or in a courtroom, they'll say to you, tell us in your own words.
Do you have your own words?
Hey, I'm using the ones everybody else has been using. Next time they tell you to say something in your own words, say Nick flut blondo flu.
>> He said just make some [ __ ] up.
Woo.
>> I never thought about that in your own words.
>> I know. That's that's what I'm saying.
He makes you think of things.
I just want to hear a little more more clapping for George Carlin because he definitely deserves it. That's what I'm saying. Like he makes you think about like these expressions or things people say and even though it like makes sense logically, but you also go he has a point. Some of this is dumb. Like why do we look at it this way? And it's like your brain almost wants to fight it like well there's a reason why. But it's like no not really. This is kind of stupid.
It kind of makes me think of the remember when he said this the words that you c you can't say or I don't remember >> certain words that you can't say >> but it's basically like he's very much about language it seems and he is oh dang I lost my whole train of thought >> he's a wordssmith is what he is he he's very clever and he he's very like um very he the way he observes everything and he's very like analytical and precise about the way that society moves and you know constructs itself constructs itself. It's almost like he's constantly in this perpetual thought patterns of like politically incorrect. What is politically correct? This is [ __ ] This is real. This isn't real. Like the way he just forms his ideas and sentences is absolutely genius. Like I've never seen a comedian like him.
>> Ah yes. So this is like a softer version of him being upset about the way we have to soften language or say certain things in order for uh to make it more palpable, more likable, more I don't know appealing, whatever the case is to others. It's less about >> just what you want to say and more about the outside. It's kind of it is really interesting um to to cons to think about and I do like that he keeps approaching it but in different ways almost every single time we've watched one of his um comedy bits it had it includes something language related.
>> Yeah, it does. Um and you know what's really crazy too that I noticed here is before he did his last one he said they got one more left. He checked his watch to make sure. I think he can keep on going on for a while. I think these are thoughts that he's been having non-stop for quite some time and probably could sit there and have another three-hour show and talk about the things that he doesn't like about you know that last one though about uh you know in your own words I've heard that before too from being arrested being in front of a judge and it's like in your own words explain it's like I've never thought about that and make up my own [ __ ] my own words I'm using everybody else's word I've never thought of it that way >> no me either >> but I see the saying though in your own words so basically express yourself freely using the vocabulary that you do have with the to the best of your ability, but it's also like in your own words. Well, I don't have my own words.
They're all our words. It's just it's it's funny. It's cool the way he makes you think. Man, this is why I really appreciate George Carlin and uh we appreciate you guys asking for more, too.
