Memorial Day weekend in Idaho will be significantly hotter than average (10-15° above normal), with temperatures in the 80s-90s across most of the state, followed by a sharp cool-down on Tuesday as a cold front moves in from the northwest, bringing gusty winds, isolated thunderstorms, and lightning that will increase fire risk during the dry conditions.

Hot, dry Memorial Day weekend followed by gusty winds and showersAjouté :
If you are still making plans for Memorial Day weekend, the main thing you need to know on the weather front is that it is going to be hot. The heat is already building and it will continue to do so all the way through Monday. So, Memorial Day itself will likely be the warmest day of the week, depending on what area you are. In some spots, it could be Sunday, but either way, it's going to be 10 to 15° above average over the weekend. Now, on Monday evening, we'll start to see some changes. It'll get pretty gusty, which will raise some fire concerns, which we'll talk about in a moment. And then by Tuesday, the following day, after Memorial Day, when you're returning to work, it's going to be much cooler and even some isolated storms coming into the picture. So, for Memorial Day Monday, this is what your high temperatures will be. 80s in the east half of the state, 90s for Boise in the Treasure Valley. Some west central mountains seeing temperatures in the 70s, maybe the 80s in those mountain valleys there. Looking to the Pacific Northwest coast, I know Seattle is one of the most popular destinations for Memorial Day in the Northwest. It will be much cooler there. 50s and 60s for places like Portland as well. So, closer to the coast, it is a little bit cooler.
We can see this system is coming in from the northwest and it's bringing an associated cold front with it. It will be pretty strong as it'll drop temperatures significantly for Tuesday in Boise, that is. Of course, it will hit the coast a little bit sooner and it brings a good amount of precipitation for some spots. We're not expecting really high precipitation chances in Boise, but we'll take anything at this point considering we haven't seen rain in Boise in one full month. So, even though our chances for rain are slight next week, we will gladly accept that.
With our windy cool down coming on Tuesday, we will see gusty winds, temperatures dropping 15 to 20° and those isolated thunderstorms which I talked about which could bring showers and also lightning. Not a good combination when it comes to fire risk [music] as we enter fire season. So, continue to be very weather aware this weekend despite the fact that it's warm, dry, and mild over the next couple of days with the fire risk in particular.
It's going to be those erratic winds with any isolated storms plus the lightning. Those are the biggest impacts, but also be mindful of any sparks or flames you're dealing with over the next several days. Vehicles on grass, be very mindful where you're parking and hopefully your car is cooling down and not sparking any fires.
And also trailer chains, that's something that kind of goes unnoticed and it does start a lot of fires when those trailer chains drag on the ground in the valleys on roads or in the mountains as well. Tomorrow though, temperatures will warm a little bit more than today, although it won't be the hottest day over the short-term period.
Central mountains could be in the 70s, west central mountains may be seeing 70s to 80s in some areas depending where you are. It looks like the valleys will probably be the hottest area on your Saturday. We will continue to see those temperatures climb through Monday, but Monday evening is when we see those [music] winds ramp up. Tuesday, we see a very sharp cool down. It gets windy [music] and precip chances through the end of next week. We'll be right back after a quick break.
