Now, when you have that context and you [music] consider all the possible ways the universe could sterilize a planet given enough time, gamma-ray bursts, [music] asteroids, planetary collisions, black holes, geomagnetic storms, the list goes on, it starts to feel like a more possible solution. [music] It could be very well the case that there is some great filter in place preventing intelligent life from evolving in the universe [music] and we are the only instance of life that has surpassed that barrier.
