Think about the messages you absorbed growing up. Don't get too big for your britches. Who do you think you are? You think you're better than everyone else?

[00:08:11]These phrases were said to keep you in line. Not because the people saying them were evil, but because they themselves had been shaped by the same forces.

[00:08:20]They were passing on the programming they received. They were trying to protect you from the risk of standing [music] out because they had learned, either directly or indirectly, that standing out is dangerous. And in some contexts, historically, it was.

[00:08:35]Standing out meant being a target. Being different meant being ostracized.

[00:08:39]>> [music] >> Ambition meant threatening the people above you who had every incentive to keep you below them. So, the programming made sense once.

[00:08:47]But you're still running it. You're still operating from the software of a world that may not even be your world anymore.

[00:08:58]It teaches you to self-police.

Real security doesn't require you to minimize yourself. Real confidence doesn't need to downplay what you've built. And the moment you stop making yourself small for other people's comfort, things will start to shift. Not because arrogance takes over. Not because others get pushed down.

Real success, [music] the kind that lasts, the kind that doesn't hollow you out, the kind that doesn't require becoming someone unrecognizable, real success is built from the inside out.

It keeps you focused on the past, >> [music] >> on all the ways you've fallen short, all the ways you're not enough yet. The question of strategy is forward-facing.

[00:17:12]It assumes the goal is real and reachable.

[00:17:15]It just asks, what's the next move?" So, here are three moves.

[00:17:19]>> [music] >> Not theory, not inspiration, actual things to do. First, [music] run the audit. Look at the three biggest decisions made in the past year. For each one, ask honestly, "Did this decision serve you, or did it serve the image of you that other people are comfortable with?" The answer will show exactly who has been making your choices. Second, find the one thing, not a list of 10 goals. One, the single thing that, if it gets done in the next 12 months, makes everything else easier or irrelevant.
