UK Police Confront Auditor for Filming a Police Yard… Then Struggle to Justify Detention | UK AuditsAdded:
going to require to do, sir, is we're going to have to take some of your details. All right.
>> I don't give me details, mate. It's just not personal. I just don't give me details out to people. Am I being detained?
>> Am I being detained?
>> At the moment, >> I'm being detained under what what section of law am I being detained?
>> Right.
>> No, you have to tell me what section you detaining me under.
>> Right.
>> What section are you detaining me under?
>> Let me put this in the pocket. Hey everyone, welcome back to Street Audits, the channel that breaks down police encounters and shows why knowing your rights matters. Today's clip comes from Matt 12128, one of the best auditors in the UK. You'll find their channel link down in the description, so go show them some support. If you're new here, hit that subscribe button so you don't miss our next breakdown. What starts as simple filming near a police yard turns into detention threats and terror talk.
But the auditor keeps his cool, demands the legal section, and shuts the pressure down with facts. Let's jump straight into it because this one gets tense fast.
>> What you on about?
>> There's private cars in this yard.
>> I'm not taking pictures of them.
>> How do I know that though? in the current with the current terror threat cited it severe, right? How do we know that you're taken? Can you are you filming me now?
>> Yeah, I'm just doing like a documentary.
That's all. It's just for YouTube, >> right? Why are you filming? Why can I ask you just lower your camera, please?
Now, I just have concerns while you take photographs into a into a police yard.
>> It's just like I said, just for footage of the um marked vehicles and that. It's just for a documentary for YouTube.
>> Okay.
That's all it is.
>> I guess it's out of the question if I can come in and get a couple.
>> No, you can't come into the yard. Where you from, sir?
>> Uh, Cumbria.
>> Liz, it's Dave. Can you get uh the inspector to send an officer out straight away, please?
>> Thank you.
>> What's up?
>> You shouldn't be taking photographs into into a private yard, sir.
>> Okay. Why?
>> Because there are private motor cars.
There's private motor cars everywhere.
>> Yeah, there are private motor cars, but you're it's a it's a police yard. All right. And as I said, the current terror threat for I'm sure you're aware for the terror is is cited. It's severe. I know, but I don't know who you are. You could be anybody, couldn't you? It's like I would check anybody's identity. Just step to one side, sir.
>> It's like I would check anybody's identity who would come into a police station. There would have to be there would have to be a supervised visit or an unsupervised visit or you'd have to have some sort of identification. Right.
All right.
>> So, you're worried about a terrorist attack on a private vehicle?
>> No, I'm worried. I'm worried about >> Hang on. You got no mask on. Whoa, whoa, whoa, >> whoa. No mask on, dude.
>> I'm worried about a threat.
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> What just happened there is textbook suspicion of inflation. The officer pointed to the severe terror threat, questioned the filming, asked for identity, and tried to frame open photography as a security problem. But the auditor stayed measured, explained it was documentary footage, and refused to treat a public-f facing camera as criminal behavior. Notice how the officer kept shifting the justification from private vehicles to terrorism to identification. That is a classic fishing sequence. Stack concerns until compliance feels easier than resistance.
But because the auditor stayed calm and kept answering narrowly, the pressure tactic never matured into lawful authority. This is knowledge jamming intimidation mid-sentence. The uniform still had presence, but the legal leverage never arrived. When you know the threshold for police powers, fear loses its grip. Assert facts, stay steady, and make authority justify itself lawfully every time. Would you have kept filming after the terrorism warning or lowered the camera to avoid escalation? What drives that choice?
>> You're going to have not approached you though, have I?
>> All right. So I I am concerned. Yes. All right.
>> Yeah. I've explained what I'm doing.
>> All right. Subie, this gentleman here has been observed on camera uh taking photographs into through the barrier into the police.
>> I'm just doing a documentary on the on YouTube. Just wanted to get some shots of the marked vehicles. I was hoping to get one coming out or something.
>> Why that?
>> Just for like some footage for YouTube.
>> Okay.
>> So what what we're going to require to do, sir, is we're going to have to take some of your details. All right.
>> Uh don't give me details, mate. It's just not personal. I just don't give me details out to people.
>> Okay. Well, you've been taking photographs into the police yard of You've already admitted you've been taking photographs of vehicles in the yard. Quite a lot of which are private motor.
>> No, I've only been I've told you.
>> Can you let me tell you we are going to have to satis >> You are saying that you have been taking pictures of private vehicles. I've been taking pictures of Mark's cars. That's what I admitted to.
>> Okay. Well, we don't know what's on that camera at this moment in time. All right.
>> Okay. What I'm going to do is I'm going to I'm going to step back now because there are there's a super another supervisor here.
>> A supervisor. Great. Good stuff.
>> I'm actually the custody sergeant. So I could be the the the person that's dealing with you next in the custody block. All right. So I'm going >> there's nothing to deal with. I've done nothing wrong. I'm all I've explain what I'm doing.
>> The officer has to say now. All right, sir.
>> Sorry. What's your name again?
>> Um I said don't give me details. Can you stop surrounding me, please?
>> How can we talk to them?
>> Right. I've just explained myself. I'll explain again. I'm just doing a documentary for YouTube >> and I just wanted to get some pictures and maybe some footage of one of the vehicles coming out of Mark car. That's all it is >> regarding cuz obviously you got understand there's a lot of personal vehicles.
>> Oh yeah. I'm not getting I'm not trying to get them.
>> We don't know that do we? You understand our point of view. We don't know what vehicles you've got.
>> Oh yeah.
>> What you've got on camera and what's been recorded. You get our view on that.
>> But what it matter even if you were in it >> because obviously this is going to if this is going on YouTube like documentary it gets shared, doesn't it?
Yeah.
>> A lot of officers details. Vehicles keep >> details. It's not details. It's vehicles. You can't get any details from them.
>> You can't.
>> No, you can't.
>> Only the DVLA can.
>> If you're taking photos and videos, you can't really see. So, all of these vehicles are all playing.
>> What about Google Maps? You can go on Google Maps and I can see straight in there on Google Maps.
>> Yeah. Well, Google Maps doesn't show any registrations.
>> It does.
>> It does. I know for a fact it does.
>> That exchange reveals everything about this encounter. The officers moved from casual questioning to demands for personal details, brought in a supervisor and even floated custody to raise the pressure. But the auditor kept repeating the same narrow explanation and refused to let suspicion turn into automatic compliance. Once the auditor would not hand over details, the officer's layered numbers, ranks, and custody language to manufacture urgency.
Psychologically, that is meant to make refusal feel risky. But because he stayed calm and specific, the balance shifted from unformed pressure to accountable justification. That was a legal pressure test, failing on camera.
This is the chess match ending. When implied custody stops sounding powerful when authority cannot point to an actual power, pressure is all they have left.
Your composure forces legal clarity and that clarity protects your rights. Would you have given your details here or held firm like this? What would have influenced your decision most?
>> Yeah, it's like I say, I'm not doing anything wrong. I've not broken any laws or anything. I've just expl I've explained exactly what I'm doing. So what our view is, which is one thing we got to understand is >> what's your name, sir?
>> Um I don't give me details, mate. It's not personal. I just don't do it.
>> Right. Okay. I mean, at the minute, obviously, we don't know who you are.
Yeah.
>> You've got a mobile phone that you're putting through into >> Yeah, it's really not a problem >> of the police station. It's not. It is a problem. The reason it's a problem is because obviously at the moment >> the terror threat is at the highest level it can be. All right. So, we need to know who you are, >> okay? Because we need to know why you are filament.
>> I've just told you I'm doing a documentary for YouTube.
>> We don't know that. We don't know that.
>> We need to ascertainate who you are.
Okay.
>> You can't ascertain. I've just told you I'm not I don't give me details.
>> Right. That's fine.
>> I've got every right to not give me details. You have >> no Yes. Right. So, >> what you need to understand is that it's also you can be arrested so that we can >> arrested.
>> So, we can under what law?
>> So, we can ascertain details.
>> Under what law? Okay.
>> Under what law can I be arrested? Can you state the section and can you read that out, please?
>> You are. You do need to. It's a new code of practice.
>> Yes, you do. Yeah, you really do.
>> We can arrest him.
>> Um, I'll be looking into this as to why you say you do not have to explain what section of the law you're arresting me under. Yes. Oh, yes, you do.
>> Yes, you do.
>> Right. Well, I don't know where you read the law from. Was it like a children's book or something?
>> I mean, you you seriously What you arresting me on?
>> You need to tell me the law what you're resting me on, sir.
>> Can you move away while I talk to my colleague, please?
>> No, I've got every right to film.
>> Thank you.
>> I've got every right to film.
>> Can you keep your distance?
>> Well, you keep your distance from them.
All right.
>> I will not get within 2 m.
>> Just keep your distance because they're having >> Don't touch me cuz that's assaulting you.
>> I will have you for assault if you touch me.
>> We're not touching you.
>> Right. Well, keep your distance.
>> Am I being detained? Am I being detained >> at the moment?
>> I'm being detained under what what section of law I'm being detained.
>> Right.
>> No, you have to tell me what section you detaining me under.
>> Right.
>> What section are you detaining me under?
>> Let me put this.
>> The tension just escalated. Officers stopped asking casual questions and started floating detention, demanding a name, and leaning on the terror threat to justify control. But the auditor immediately challenged the legal basis, kept filming, and forced them to say what power they thought they had. Notice how the auditor kept asking the same question. Under [clears throat] what law? That repetition was strategic. It blocked vague authority and forced specificity. You can hear officers stalling, then retreating into side conversations. Because he stayed calm and kept the burden on them. The power balance shifted. This is the sound of authority running out of lawful words in real time. Standing ground plus legal knowledge equals authority retreat. When you calmly demand the power being used, pressure stops feeling magical. Learn the thresholds. Keep your distance and make officers justify every step. Would you have accepted detention without hearing the legal section or challenged it like this? What would you say first?
Give your answer below. And if you want more realworld breakdowns like this where pressure gets tested and authority has to explain itself, hit like, subscribe, and stay locked in. Because the more you know your rights, the harder it is for anyone to bluff you with
