Barry Darsow Asked WCW For An AGENT Job

[00:00:00]One thing that strikes me talking to you, I mean, and and you're talking about kind of returning in 2001 for WrestleMania for that one-off, but how much your your face was lights up when you talk around being around your friends and being around the business. Like, was there ever any consideration to you, you know, transitioning to becoming an agent or a producer? We've seen so many of your contemporaries transition to being behind the camera.

[00:00:23]Did you ever consider that for WWE?

[00:00:26]>> Well, what what's funny you said that was when I had that the contract with WCW, at that time, um I asked them if if they needed an agent there cuz I wanted to be an agent at WCW. And I never heard anything from them. I I sent a letter into the office. I talked to a few people there, and it just never never happened. And then my contract was up, and then I left.

[00:00:57]So, >> Right.

[00:00:59]>> at that time, I you know, when when I bring up Arn Anderson all the time.

[00:01:07]Arn is one of the smartest minds around, and he can come up if if you if you came up to Arn and said, "Arn, I got the main event with John Cena. I I need to know what to do in this finish.

[00:01:23]You know, everybody's got all this. What can I do?" And Arn would look at you and go, "Ben, here's here's exactly what you need to do. Uh >> [clears throat] >> 2 years ago I seen this finish with this and this finish here." And he'd come up with this, and he'd say, "This is what you need to do."

[00:01:38]And because he's around the business all the time and sees everything, he can come up with it. And that's kind of how I was back then. Not saying I was as good as he was, >> Yeah.

[00:01:49]>> but I was around it so much that I could do it. And as an agent, I think I could have really done well being that agent cuz I I was an outside guy watching it so much and I was seeing the mistakes that they were making, you know?

[00:02:08]And not the main events, but the matches that were below it cuz they didn't really care about those. And those are the matches that helped the main events.

[00:02:18]Yeah. And but then after I got out of the business, I didn't watch anymore and all of a sudden I was I'd watch TV and then it was like I forgot things that, you know, I could have helped. And then then somebody called me up and said, "Hey Barry, you should try to be an agent, you know?" And I said, "I couldn't be an agent anymore." I said, "I I I don't even know how to do a top wristlock anymore. I don't even know, you know, I've been away from the business so long I I couldn't do the business any good anymore, you know? Does that make sense?

[00:02:54]It's like, you know, cuz I need to be really good at it or I can't do it. Whereas some of the guys if they got to call to be an agent, they go, "Oh yeah, I'll be an agent." Well, then they they might not be a good agent. I need to be the best agent, otherwise I couldn't do it. So So that was kind of the story about being an agent. And if Vince would have called me up to be an agent up there after I was out of the business for a long time, I would have had to tell him, "I don't think I could be a really good agent now unless I was around the business for a half a year and, you know, really studied it again, you know?"
