The video highlights how the sports genre functions as a visceral metaphor for human fragility and the arduous path toward psychological redemption. It effectively captures the raw emotional resonance that occurs when physical struggle mirrors internal grief.

I mean, all the fans around the world, they want to see it.
>> Who else is there? Your crew knows it.
All these beautiful people in here >> trying to make a fight.
>> And you're that concerned. Don't fall for it.
>> Clearly, he hasn't really been hit at all yet.
>> No, don't.
>> Why you so scared of fighting?
>> Don't fall for it.
>> Baby, you business.

>> He does seem to lean in like to his body a lot and facial expressions to like let it lead his voice.
>> Wow, >> that's a nice [ __ ] >> Why can't he just retire? Maybe spend time with his beautiful wife and his beautiful child.

>> Miss you, daddy.
>> Must be so hard watching your dad get hit like that.

>> He's got so much pride.
>> The more you get hit, the harder you fight. I get it. Only now you taking way too many hits before you get off.
>> Damn, what a good shot.
>> The three of us, that's it. That's all that matters. So, I'm going to tell you the truth. You're going to be punch drunk in two years if you keep this up.
>> [ __ ] >> Think about her when she graduates. What do you want to look like?
>> Mhm.
>> You want to have cognitive functions, too.
>> Yeah. They're all going to keep you in that Billy the Great bubble, you know?
And they'll take their pound of flesh.
But baby, when that bubble pop, they're all just going to scatter like roaches.
>> And me and Ila are going to be here to pick up the pieces.
>> No pieces.
>> It's such a simple shot, but it's gorgeous. Love a good mirror shot.
>> What's that?
>> I only 10 rounds tonight. So that means I still have >> Uhoh.
Where are they going with this? Jackie, >> I've never seen a scene like this before.
Wait, Greg, what are they doing right now? I'm really confused.
>> It's actually like an incredibly well- acted scene. They went through like so much in that like such a trajectory in that whole scene.
your father tattoo.
>> Oh, Leila, >> dude. Dude.
>> Oh, no. No, no, no.
>> I don't know anything about like postboxing matches, but I thought you would get like a doctor or something.

>> I was going to comment on that, but I'm like, is that okay? It's >> crazy.
>> You should see the other guy.
That's sweet.
>> Well, I'm assuming that you must wake up almost like a boxing hangover with a boxing hangover or something where it hurts so much worse the next day. Oh >> yeah.
>> Oh jeez. Yeah.
>> Whoa.
>> Got to do this for you. I put that together with people over at HBO. It's two year three fight deal.

>> And I've been his wife for like a hundred.
>> She looks great.
>> She looks [ __ ] hot as hell for a hundred.
>> How long you going to do that, Mo? One week, two weeks.
>> M plotting.

>> Yeah, Ice is going to fix that.
>> I got HBO to commit $30 million. 10 million per fight.
>> I just told you we're passing on to Ray.
>> Yeah, man. My mother had me when she was in incarcerated. That How do you spell incarcerated?

>> It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.
>> Good problem solver.
>> I don't do I can't do this.
>> I wonder how far he got in school. All he knows is how to fight.
>> I would assume that he didn't get very far.
>> Stop. You're acting crazy. It's okay.
>> No, I don't even look at me like I'm an idiot.
>> No, kids love you and it's for them.
Don't be nervous. You're fine. Okay.
>> I love her so much.
>> Put your pants on.
>> Do they have matching? Does he also have that bird tattoo right there?
>> M. Good catch.
>> I want to tell you something and it is very important.
>> I love you.
>> I love you.
>> So predictable, >> man.

>> I feel like he's going to have a tanty >> tantrum.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. I take a couple punches in be up here. Um, >> he always looks to her.
>> I wouldn't be up here tonight if it wasn't for the for for the children.
They gave me a bed. They gave me my first pair of gloves. Some gloves, you know, smelly and ratty, all tattered.
They were mine.
>> Yeah.
>> You got your soul in those clubs.
>> They gave me a home.
>> He wants to hear this.
>> I met my boys. That whole table I would stay away from if I were you. So, there a lot of rich people here.
>> When I was when I was when I was 12 years old, there was this little girl.
She was skinny. She had ratty hair. Aw, >> she stuck with me when I was uh I was incarcerated >> and I knew she was there. I wouldn't be here without my wife Morin.
>> A >> respect.
>> Your fancy cars and your fancy suits and your beautiful hair. Take some of that money and give us that [ __ ] >> Yeah.

>> Oh no.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> What?
>> I don't know.
>> No.
>> Oh, she's in shock.
>> No. No. No.
>> You're okay. You're okay.
Okay.
>> Yeah. Yeah. What's up? What's up, baby?
>> I want to go. I want to go home.
>> We're going to go home.
>> Oh, no.
>> It's not that bad. It's not that bad.
>> No. No. No. No. It's okay. It's okay.
>> Oh, God.
>> I don't know. We miss seeing blood. Oh, baby.
>> Oh, no. No. No. No. No.
>> Okay. Okay. Okay. We got to go. We got to go home. You want to go home? Okay.
Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> No.
>> Hey. Hey. No. Baby. Baby. Baby. Wait.
Wait. Wait. No. Maybe not. It's okay.
Baby, baby. Baby.
>> Oh, he's probably blaming himself. so much for losing his temper.
>> Oh, absolutely.
>> That was really brutal.
>> One of your crew had a weapon on him. He said he was your security detail.
Unfortunately, he didn't have a permit to carry.
>> My daughter wakes up at 6.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, man.
>> I tell you what, Mr. Hope. Uh, if uh you can remember anything, anything at all, like you said, sir, don't hesitate to give us a call. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. >> Oh my god. It's just so like random.
>> This is like whole rock.
>> He's not even with his daughter right now.
>> No.
>> I guess it looks like maybe he couldn't stand to be that close.
>> Yeah.
>> Such a unique choice to go after the funeral.
I really admire how much it shows his isolation, too. I felt like when they did that panning shot, I was expecting someone to walk up behind him >> and be there to comfort him, but he's just totally alone.
>> True.
>> I I'll go down the kitchen and get something to eat.
>> Oh, >> all right.
Okay.
>> Mommy leaves it on.
>> Sorry, baby.
>> He doesn't know how to comfort her.
>> No, he has no idea.
Never mind.
>> Oh, >> okay. Sweet.
>> This is just gut-wrenching. I'm like not okay right now.
>> It's really sad.
>> Uh no, man.
>> No, no, no, no, no.
>> You got a daughter.
>> Yeah, he shouldn't have that right now.
>> Oh, no.
Lelay, come on, honey. It's going to be all right.
>> I don't know if it is going to be all right.
The >> [ __ ] are you doing? Where you been, Billy?
>> Oh, he's going to try to kill the guy.
>> Oh, thought he was going to >> Yeah, so did I.
>> Please, let me let me let me go with you.
>> What do you want to talk about? You want to [ __ ] talk now? You want to [ __ ] talk to me now, huh? Who's supposed to [ __ ] look after you?
>> supposed to look after.
>> I'm sorry for I'm sorry for your little girl.
>> No, no, no. Get the out of my house. Get the out of my house. Get the [ __ ] Nothing. Nothing. Ain't no good.
>> I don't even think he should be behind the wheel of a car right now with this level of grief.
>> He only knows how to express himself through rage.
>> True. Yeah. Mhm. Hector.
>> Hector in here. Who is it?
>> Open the door.
>> Who is it?
>> I'm looking for Hector. I got some money for him.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> She fell for that.
>> He's right in here.
>> Where is he?
>> I don't know. You think he tells me [ __ ] >> Yo, he going to give me money or not.
You got a hit?
>> You his wife?
>> I don't have to be. Not today, >> dude.
Kids, man. Come on, baby. Oh, >> [ __ ] crazy.
>> Damn, she got so many kids.
>> A two or three.
>> Hey, I need a hit. Yo, you got a hand?
Hey. Hey.
>> Oh, Jesus.
>> Okay.
With all that money, you'd think that maybe he could afford some therapy.
>> I don't think this is what these kind of guys do.
>> You've got a lot of money going out, you know, with the mortgage and your friend Gab's legal fees and all your taxes are due, including your property taxes.
>> Pay them with what?
>> With my [ __ ] money, Simon.
>> That's why I'm here, Billy. Money. It's drying up. Look, you got to see what's happening here. Uh, >> what?
>> Wait, >> what's it about? You you taking my money? What?
>> You stealing from me, son?
>> No, I'm I'm just here to help out.
>> I can take care of some fun, >> please.
>> Something seems fishy. I don't know.
>> She was talking about like how people might take advantage spread like cockroaches. Kind of don't trust 50 Cent. He seems a little >> fishy. Hey, look.
You need this. This solves all your problem.
>> Forcing him to fight.
>> It's the contract.
>> The fight to Mo doesn't want me to sign it.
>> No more didn't want you to sign it then.
Now she would want you to actually sign the contract. Every time you bled, you bled your blood. When you sat down on that stool and it felt like death and you thought you couldn't get up, but you got up. You did that. You need to get back to that.
>> Yeah, but she was there next to him cheering him on the whole time.
>> Yeah, she she would look to him. He would look to her.
>> It's a three fight deal. Let's get back to doing what we do, man. When you're in the ring, you're going to feel different. I'm telling you.
>> I feel like it would be like self harm for this guy.
>> I feel like it's going to be an even bigger reminder that she's not there. I feel like now is maybe not the time.
>> It's about family.
>> I don't know what I'd do without you, man.
probably be doing better.
>> This guy's definitely taking advantage of him.
>> Yeah, absolutely.
>> Oh yeah. Oh, he's like full-on [ __ ] bad guy.
>> Oh my god.
>> I've convinced myself he's a bad guy.
>> Eight weeks later.
>> Head's not really in the game.
>> No aggression.
Simply a will to continue taking to allow to count him with both fists.
Yeah, I think he wants the pain right now.
>> How's he already covered in blood? They must have been fighting for like >> Yeah, they're deep into the game right now.
>> Hope finally gets in the right hand.
Upset victory over Billy Hope and perhaps [ __ ] >> Oh, I think it was the final round.
>> Yeah. Got to focus on it. You hear me?
>> Huh?
>> Happened to you, man. Not going to watch this happen to us.
>> Wow. Such a radic intimacy.
>> You hear me? I'm done. Wake up, Chant.
>> Don't call steady cam.
>> What the [ __ ] are we doing here? Huh?
>> She's not there.
>> You hear me? I'm not going to watch.
>> Oh, you can feel her empty space.
>> Oh, no. No.
>> This guy. Look who he's next to. He's next to the [ __ ] >> Hands up. Fight.
>> Or maybe his wife just died and like >> cut him some slack. Maybe.
>> Oh, he's dropping his hands.
He's giving up.
>> Yeah, this is just self harm.
>> Yeah, this is not good.
>> Oh, he throw in the towel.
>> Oh my god.
>> Billy and a career which produced so many thrills appears to have ended ignominiously here tonight.
>> Does he get banned?
>> He could.
>> He could. Yeah, >> he was shouting I'm sorry, too.
>> Oh, he doesn't have his wife to comfort him. I >> know.
>> Socks on.
>> Is Jordan here?
>> His mind's all gone.
>> Is anybody still here?
>> Completely isolated like you said, >> man.
>> We did the biggest deal that we ever did, Bill, and you [ __ ] it off. It'll be a year before your suspension is up for review, which means zero income.
>> A year. He's suing you for lost wages and emotional trauma. You're freezing all your bank accounts immediately. The networks are suing us for breach of contract.
>> What a coverage.
>> Jesus Christ.
>> No, I'm not selling the house.
>> You don't have a choice, Bill. If you don't, it's going to get repossessed in it.
>> Oh, dude.
>> You want to get ready for the next fight? It's going to be >> I'm not even sure the train is to take you on right now.
>> What the Why? I don't need another trainer.
>> Ella's working with another fighter.
>> Who wants Escobar?
>> Yep, there it is.
>> Are you working with him, too?
>> Yeah. You know, if it makes money, it makes sense.
>> Oh, >> it's just business, Billy.
>> Okay. 8 weeks since his wife died, but totally just business.
>> [ __ ] If she was here, she'd be disgusted with you, man. We need you to pull you something.
>> Don't say that [ __ ] >> Can't do this anymore, Billy.
>> Yeah, boy.
>> Y'all follow him. Make sure you don't break no [ __ ] on the way out.
>> I thought he was going to break that poster. I did.
>> I don't even know what he's supposed to like. What is he meant to do? I >> say he's going to have to go back to his roots.
>> Yeah. Well, what roots? He's always boxed.
He's like literally at rock bottom now.
Like if he loses everything, his money, him and his daughter are rock bottom.
Oh, >> let's go home. Let's go home.
>> Ah, >> god.
>> That blame stage of grief. Uh, what are you doing?
>> Oh, no. No.
>> No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Oh, no.
He's probably just like playing the tape back in his head so much. What if I did this? What if I didn't do that?
>> This is horrible.
>> This is so sad.
>> Daddy, what happened? Daddy. Daddy.
>> Oh god.
>> There's no one there.
>> Water's fine, Mr. Hope. She's the one who called 911. You were in an accident.
There's >> people looking after me.
>> We found you with the loaded weapon, Mr. Hope.
>> Under the influence with a minor.
>> Oh god. He's like literally bleeding from his ears with child services.
They're looking after >> a He don't lose his daughter.
>> Well, he's been previously incarcerated, so >> Oh, he's going to lose everything.
>> God, I mean, I I just do understand being in that much pain and grief and wanting to see her again. I understand how the human mind can get to that place. Obviously, you know, >> absolutely.
>> I just want to hug my dad.
>> Period.
>> I just want to hug my dad.
>> The matter this morning is >> Oh, honey, >> the child has no other family. Is that right? Your >> honor, uh, both my client and his wife came up through the system.
>> I see.
>> Bit more painful for you.
>> I want my daughter back.
>> Okay. He needs to calm down a little.
You have chosen to demonstrate alarming and dangerous behaviors while having custody of your daughter >> even in public too.
>> Mr. Hope will follow a case plan. I order said child remanded into the care of the family services until at which time the father can demonstrate the abilities to provide.
>> Don't lose your temper.
>> Responsible parent.
>> Yeah.
>> Party's back in 30 days.
>> Where is she supposed to go?
>> Please. I don't want to.
>> Let them hug.
>> Oh, let them hug. JUST GIVE ME MY DAUGHTER HOME.
>> DADDY, NO.
>> OH, because the system is so much better for her than >> I want to live with you, please.
>> Jesus to go that far back where his own daughter would have to be back in the system just like him. So [ __ ] sad.
There's been like literally zero positive for this guy and for like any scene for like like 30 solid minutes of his moves. Like >> it's just constantly drowning >> like lower and lower and lower and you don't think it can get lower and then it gets lower. I'm I'm scared right now.
I'm like actually foreclosed. Okay. Oh my god. Jesus.
>> Had to turn >> and like the last kind of tethers and connections that he had to his wife, his home, his daughter.
>> It's all tied to her. You know, I I can't I can't really pay you right now.
>> No, I was never here for the money. You know that. I'm sorry, dude.
>> A there is so much paid in this one [ __ ] like insane >> so much. There's a place.
>> Yeah.
>> Back to his first gym.
>> Are you uh you want me to come with you?
>> No. No. I got to do this alone.
>> Okay.
>> Gift and he won that in pool.
>> Call me if you need anything.
>> Yeah. All right.
Jill Hall is so incredible in this movie. Like every second.
>> It's fantastic.
>> Go say hi to Mikey and Gabe. All right, >> I got it.
>> Hey, >> can't imagine how exhausting it must have been to film this role and just stay in that grief.
>> Oh man. Yeah.
>> Jesus.
>> Good way to put that.
>> Oh, cute.
>> How cute.
>> Look at him go.
>> Little cute little boxing, right?
>> Well, he's little. That's for Was that Forest Whitaker?
>> Hey, help me. I want you on the ropes.
>> I already did that [ __ ] >> What' you say?
It's Billy Hope over there.
>> From what other movies have taught me, boxing has often helped kids in the system learn discipline.
>> It's not proving to be true with Billy Hope.
>> It's pretty disciplined. Just in other ways, he's lacking some focus right now.
They didn't they didn't teach him like psychology.
I'm looking for, >> you know, a place to train.

>> Okay.
>> 116 to 112 and the new champion.
>> Hope is back. Hope is on top again.
>> Hell yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Awesome.
What an amazing moment of redemption for Billy.
>> Should go for you, man.
>> I'm scared for you. So scary.
>> Just like Rachel.
Daddy >> you mother will be so proud of you.
>> Just go home. Okay.
>> Just go home. Okay.
Oh, this >> his last movie he composed.
>> That's so sad.
>> I imagine there's no post credits in the movies. I would thought if Amazon's like move on. Hey, you're a champ. Thanks for grabbing that.
You're a good good person. You're good.
You're a good guy. Good good gal.
>> You okay?
>> Hey, you're okay.
>> Are you okay?
>> Are you okay?
>> Yeah. I'm totally cool.
>> I'm literally fine. Yeah, we're both fine. Let's just not make eye contact for like the next five minutes. We're solid.
>> How how it works. We're still getting to know each other. This is like I bonded with people in like Catholic school.
Cried over God, but don't look at each other.
Anyway, we watch Southb people. Um if you want to watch the full reaction, watch along. That's for our Royal Rejects. their patrons sync up with their own copy whole thing. Great way to support the channel, especially when you got movies like this have a lot of copyright claim kind of music. You help offset a lot of the monetization issues you run into. Anyh who, um I want to preview something really quick. We got a few questions. Yeah. So, patrons, they get to ask us question. They get access to our shooting schedule. So, usually they can participate in our reviews and ask us some questions.
Now, I think this is our first upload with Miss um Bonfire over here. And okay, so here's here's Okay, I got I got to do this. I'm not asking this question. I don't ask you this question.
I thought of it. Okay.
>> Is your stroke?
>> Well, we we shot Men in Black, but that goes up a few days from now, I think.
>> So, the way I was trying to map out what can I put Jackie on? I found out she had a letter box account. I do not I do not have a letter box account.
>> You don't?
>> I don't.
>> No, you just want people to stream.
>> But I want people Yeah, but I but it gave me access to a lot. So, I was able to like kind of try >> How did you view it if you don't have whatever.
>> I mean, you can still view it. I was able to I just can't post anything, but I was trying to like figure out what she might like from that, you know, a little variety. I'm like, what what can we try here? What psychoanalysis can I do here?
the kind of movie she might like. And so if this was a if you were going to go on your letter box, what would you uh rate this movie off first experience?
>> Oh, okay. Well, my bio on my letter box is uh that I scale movies typically on whether or not I cry.
>> Okay, >> let's run back the tape. I think I cried like seven times.
>> So, I you know, I'd give it like I don't like to give out fives a lot.
I give it like 4.5. 4.5 out of five.
>> What What would you What do you think you might write on your first like if you're just like imagine yourself writing?
>> Imagine myself writing.
>> You do on the phone or there's a computer?
>> I have a phone.
>> Okay. So, you do it on your phone when you're doing. So, imagine yourself. What would you be saying? I would probably say I would probably say that it actually I I think for me I was concerned that I wouldn't be into a movie about boxing, but I honestly think that it's less a movie about boxing and it's more a movie about family dynamics and a man, you know, trying to persevere when he's dealt possibly the worst hand that I've ever seen a cinema character get in life. Like possibly.
>> Yeah. Um, no. I really, oh my god, I really enjoyed it.
>> You You seemed really affected primarily by I always find it interesting what people might like be emotionally moved by.
>> You know, like sometimes I had an experience recently. I won't say what, but that was I was watching a show where this character died. And normal I have a weird thing where if I'm watching a normally on a show, if someone dies and I've been watching it for years or something, I'm not I don't really cry. I usually go into shock.
>> So I kind of go into like denial. I'm like, "This isn't real."
>> Do you do that in real life, too?
>> Yeah. That's what first happens. I don't I It takes me >> I think that's typical.
>> Yeah. It takes me a moment to like I don't >> It takes me a few weeks.
>> I usually don't cry like day one.
>> I don't cry. I just get shingles.
>> Yeah. It just comes out through my pores.
So yeah, and and but for this I think like hurt and love kind of gets me. I notic like with you with the with the daughter primarily seem to really be kind of like >> effing you up a little bit. Is there a reason?
>> The dad and the I feel like any I am an eldest daughter and I feel like any dad and daughter stuff always makes me cry so so hard. You know, >> I remember you telling me how close you are with your mom.
>> But I mean, I'm not gonna try to like divulge your [ __ ] personal life.
>> Video on video.
>> Video one. Like just put everything out there right now.
>> That's for Patreon.
>> Go against your own boundaries. Yeah.
Just for patrons. Yeah.
>> But yeah. So like generally is that the kind of thing that like >> I think genuinely anything with it doesn't even have to be specifically dadaughter but anything with parent child relationships where one of them is >> God I mean that scene where they're first back in their house and it's the like maybe first night without you know Rachel McAdams there >> and she calls for her dad and he wants to you could just feel it in his talk about his physical acting you could feel it that he just wants to turn around so bad.
>> Yeah. And then he takes just a millisecond too long and she goes, "Never mind."
>> And it's just like I wish that I could just go in there and say, "You guys are going to feel so much better if you just go to each other and help each other."
But >> it's just it's so heartbreaking because I just think it's something that everyone has been there. Everyone has been there.
>> Yeah. And if you haven't, uh there'll be a time where if you're on this earth long enough, you're probably going to encounter it at some point. if you have any form of making connections with anybody, family or friends, you'll encounter it in in some capacity like that.
>> So, you said you were surprised by like the boxing effect of it, but more like family dynamics that were getting to you with Jake Gyllenhaal.
>> Yeah.
>> What would you think about like how would you describe your experience with his character in this movie?
>> With his character?
>> Oh gosh.
I mean, I I love an underdog story >> and I love the way that boxing was sort of used to like as a as a as a vehicle to show his progress and like his ability to get his own anger and temper and his own emotions under control. And I liked that it was >> it was displayed in such a physical way, I think.
>> Yeah. Um, and God, I mean, I'm just very impressed by Jake Gyllenhaal in this movie. I usually like him, but this one is probably the best role that I've seen him in.
>> He tends to transform when it's like a when it's a really compelling drama, he really transforms.
>> And uh I was like I had that moment I think with like DiCaprio sometimes where he's like with his daughter and I'm going this guy doesn't have like a wife or like a daughter child in real life, right?
They're like totally like single man kind of for life.
>> I also I just found the cinematography, specifically the shots from his POV when he was boxing.
>> Mhm.
>> I just love the use of I don't know the steady cam and how blurry it got. So, we really got to be inside of his head of like >> I don't know. It felt like I was looking at the POV of a very concussed person.
>> Yeah.
>> Which sort of really raised the stakes for me.
>> Yeah. Those boxing matches did a really good job at pulling back to be like a master shot of what it would look like when you're watching an HBO pay-per-view thing. And then they would know how to go like a variety of intimacy shots with this like shutter speed that was like ramping up the frame rate or then doing those POVs and sometimes changing like the exposure filter on it. So that way uh it it's showing kind of the the haziness of what's happening as you're getting more [ __ ] up in a fight, you know?
>> I know. I want to Google how long it took them to uh how many days or weeks it took them to film each one of the fights now so bad.
>> Yeah. Because it's like what kind of sometimes they they choreograph the [ __ ] out of it and other times they it's like half choreography half just go in there and actually box each other and then they like interpice it. It looks like nightmare almost.
>> Oh, it looks like a huge editing nightmare.
>> Yeah. Like >> I mean I also would imagine that the editor would have to provide like a few different cuts of each fight.
>> Oh yeah. like different kinds of shots interplaced in different orders. Oh my god.
>> Oh yeah. And you were pointing out too like how the movie really kept capturing his isolation throughout. And then you said that I was like, "Oh, it must be like kind of what the if you think about like the the way the movie starts where it's just in his own head like he's listening to the music. He's getting his gloves wrapped up.
>> He's in his own world even though he's like surrounded by people.
>> And then at the very end he's not on music. he's he's actually connected with someone. It like it's him and his daughter there. So, it's he's not alone anymore. So, even like when he's preparing for a fight, he's still kind of alone.
>> But at the end, he's not alone anymore.
And I think there's like something so beautiful about the way this is told. I like it a lot because especially for I mean, when does this come out? 2015.
>> Now, nowadays, there's a lot more emphasis on men being able to uh dive into their emotions and express. There's like more of an encouragement in that.
And I like that they took it from the angle of like one of the most masculine things you can do, [ __ ] kill each other in the ring, but also make it really a heavy emphasis on dealing with your grief and dealing with your emotions and really healing internally instead of just putting it all external, you know?
>> Yeah. Semen, it's okay to deal with your emotions. You >> could just do it in a manly way.
>> Yeah, >> it was cool, man. That was cool. Is there any Rachel McAdams dude was great.
>> Oh my god, she's phenomenal.
>> She's good in everything. She's good in everything. And Forest Whitaker, another like legendary actor. Just like the the constant chemistry in history that all these actors perform in that little girl. Holy [ __ ] >> Also, so sorry I can't What was the name of the woman that played the social the social work?
>> I think her name is Naomi Harris.
>> Naomi Harris.
>> Yeah.
>> She was phenomenal in her role, especially given how >> Exactly. especially given how little dialogue she had, but just the things that she was able to do with her looks.
I mean, it it really was, I think, a standout supporting role for me in the film.
>> That first scene where she first interacts with him and she's kind of playing like tit for tat and I noticed there was a >> when she mirrors him because she's not cuz he swears, but then when she mirrors him with the I forgot what the line was.
She says the word [ __ ] as well. And when she said it in the middle of the sentence, like it really stood out. But I'm like, damn, this this character really knows what they're doing here to try like she's she deals with guys like this all the time, you know? Uh so I Yeah, you're absolutely right about her.
Everything's so well illustrated. Like there's Does it kind of have like a formula that it follows? Yes. Does it execute that formula well? Most definitely. I know you're not as like familiar with like the sports genre like >> No, I'm really I'm really not.
>> I think when we checked off the box the the movies, you said you hadn't seen the Rocky movies and stuff. No. No. Yeah.
So, I've seen I've seen a fair amount of sports drama. So, I'm like, yeah. I mean, not nothing where it's like this guy has a freaking um you know, lost loses his wife and then has to go through this like rebuilding himself back up. But, there's enough of the script structure stuff where I was starting to see like, okay, I can see where this is going. But even though like it's it's not about that, it's about the the journey and how they execute the characters and the emotional experience. And I thought they executed it >> phenomenally well.
>> Honestly, yeah. My my the journey for me of this film was watching him learn how to open his heart back up after dealing with the loss that he dealt with and sort of isolating from his friends, from everyone having his daughter taken away.
And just >> it felt so that end scene with him and his daughter just felt so gratifyingly earned because we saw how much he struggled to get there.
>> Yeah, it's really cathartic.
>> Mhm. Well, on that note, let's ask answer some questions here and maybe we hopefully we didn't go into too much of the [ __ ] that we already said. It's always the hard part when it's like, oh, we already answered that.
>> All right, here we go. Let's read the first one. First shout his name.
>> All right, Kev B asks, could Billy have ever found his way back without Tick or was he pretty much past the point of no return?
>> Tick is the Force Whitaker character, right? Tick Wills. I'm going to go ahead and and take a strong guess that that has to be >> has to be him, right? You know, but you know, you just never know.
>> I felt like they didn't say the character names in the movie a lot. Or maybe I am tired >> or Yeah. I just go Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake Gyllenhaal.
>> I just go Rachel McAdams.
>> Rachel McAdams. Rachel McAdam. Jake.
Yeah, Tick Willis.
>> Tick.
>> Tick Wills. Tick Wills. Not Willis. Uh >> Willis.
>> Or was he pretty much past the point of no return?
>> No. I mean, I I think a big part of healing there's there's a lot of like especially in in um I mean, I know women who can who can be this way, too, but I think like part of the stereotype of men is like you got to do it on your own, you know, [ __ ] handle your [ __ ] And I think a big part of this is him learning to lean on other people and know that it's okay to ask for help and support. And so, I do think he needed a >> a support to to help pick him back up.
So, no. Yeah. I don't I don't I feel like it wouldn't have worked as well if he just was on his own.
>> Yeah, I completely agree. I don't know if it's I mean Tick obviously amazing person, amazing character. I feel like he really needed someone like that in his life. Do I think that it could have been anyone though, anyone that was a good person. I just do think that he like Greg said, he just needed someone to lean on and support.
>> Oh man, that line when he's like, "My wife would have liked you." Oh.
>> Oh my god.
>> So touch.
>> God is watching you. Your wife is watching you. And I like how in in a lot of ways the relationship was healing for you know the way the way the character Tick is introduced is like he is the one who will help guide and heal Billy but also he needed some healing as well.
They show that he is also a flawed individual and and has some stuff in his own belief system that he needs to work on.
>> Oh yes. And I think one of my favorite scenes between them besides the bar scene because that was hilarious when he flipped the chair and then he comes back. But um was when we find out that Hoppy unfortunately, you know, passed um and they're sitting on the floor against the boxing ring and just >> so almost hysterical with grief that they're just losing their minds laughing with each other. It's so >> so sweet.
>> So sweet. So sweet.
>> So sweet.
Jenu, the fighting is a highlight, but I think the real gem of this movie is Una Lawren. Oh, what a unique name.
>> I know. It's beautiful.
>> Una Lawrence's performance as Billy's daughter, Leila. Her begging him to take her home and hitting him out of frustration gets me every time. It's such an amazing showing of a kid being angry and confused. Do you think I'm nuts for considering this as one of the best child performances?
No, you're not nuts.
>> You're not nuts. You're not. You should be You should be locked away. Yeah, that's great. But she was great. I mean, you want to talk about her more?
>> Yeah. I She was phenomenal and I almost feel like >> phenomenal. It's our >> bird call.
>> Um I I studied uh child and adolescent psychopathology in college and I feel like her those scenes with her should have been shown in my classes. Like >> especially the one where she comes in and she sits down near the library or near the bookshelves and she just waits for him to come.
>> It's just I don't know. It's so it feels >> it feels like she runs through all of the most stereotypical like attachment styles with a parental figure, you know?
I don't know.
>> Yeah. And she also was the right I don't know like kids nowadays especially I think because of internet too like they grow up way faster now. So there's the a lot of times in movies you have to find that right line of of what is a too precocious of a child you know and no she still felt like a little girl to me while also being the one who could guide her dad you know like she was just the right balance I think of a of writing and acting too >> yeah she was also just written so two-dimensional you know like we like >> you mean threedimensional >> three sorry yes threedimensional I'm tired um so threedimensional And >> we really had to watch Billy try to earn her trust and her respect back and she did not give it over easy whatsoever.
>> True, true, true. Good points.
>> Good points. Want to take the next one?
>> Dante Woodbeck asks, "What are your thoughts on the way the boxing was shot and what's your opinion on fighting movies overall?"
>> Damn snakey. We already answered that question.
>> I know. Yeah, we did.
>> Fighting movies overall. Ah, my favorite one. Does he mean specifically boxing movies or fight it? You're like, >> "Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, I saw like the movie Warrior." Oh, you you love that movie.
>> You think I would?
>> I think you would. That one's way more like family drama.
>> Oh, really?
>> [ __ ] Yeah. Oh my god. I do not watch that video back with me.
>> Way too way too like I'm a I'm a I'm a mess. You're a mess. I'm a mess.
>> I was kind of a mess in this one. I'm worried. I'm so worried. No, that one was Oh, that was a that was a hard one.
Um, but uh yeah, I mean I think the I think fighting movies are are the best when they have a they know there's heart to them. Like it's always it's always a psychology underneath and then you cap it off with the cherry on top is the fighting.
>> Well, yeah, because the the fighting is like the physical manifestation of what's boiling underneath, I would say.
>> Absolutely. And if I think I think if that was missing from a fighting movie, I you know wouldn't really do it for me.
>> Yeah, it'd be boring. It would be boring.
>> I think the next question is for you >> really >> cuz I have nothing to base uh anything off of.
>> Jaden Rhodess, my memory of this movie is that one is one of the better modernday boxing movies. I'm curious, how do you all compare this to other boxing movies? And did you all like the soundtrack by Eminem? So you've never seen any other boxing movie? I can't think of any other ones outside of rock.
>> Can you name any other ones?
>> I can't. So, I guess I guess >> I watched um what's the show with Betty Gilpin?
>> The wrestling one.
>> I watched the lesbian wrestling show. I watched some of Glow.
>> Yeah. Uh >> I mean, uh I guess I don't know.
>> It doesn't It doesn't >> I I don't think so.
>> Um I mean >> I like the soundtrack by Eminem.
>> That is a good soundtrack. I the only Foxy movies I could think of are the Rocky movies and there's that's a giant there's like nine movies in that franchise the the the one the first one won Oscars for a reason.
>> It's a pretty great movie.
>> A lot of them are great.
>> I got into push-ups because of that movie.
>> Really?
>> And then I stopped doing push-ups for many years and then I got back into push-ups.
>> Which movie?
>> Yeah.
And uh the I I it's it's a really hard question to answer because I only have one franchise to. But the soundtrack by Eminem, I think it was is a dope. I've I've heard that song for many years. I really like that song. I've always thought the hook was a little weird.
>> Phenomenal.
>> It works in the context of seeing the movie, you know, like >> it does feel. Yeah.
>> But when I first heard it, I'm like, it sounds a little weird.
>> It's just Eminem shot. I am phenomenal.
>> But when you see the movie with the visuals, they're like, okay. Yeah, I I got >> I like the bars more than the hug, I think.
>> Yeah, I I'd meet you there. I'd meet you there. But it is [ __ ] catchy.
>> Whenever we say the word phenomenal, I just want to shout.
>> Phenomenal.
>> That's how we will call to each other from now on.
>> Yes, of course.
>> See each other at the Glendale Mall.
>> Phenomenal.
>> Out of the Glendale Mall.
>> Um, all right. Last the last one.
>> Gabriel asks You got this.
>> Sorry. Gabriel asks, >> you got it.
>> Fistp pumping action where the sports/games themselves are the focal point of the movie.
>> Is that a question? I'm sorry. Am I reading >> sometimes? Yeah, we don't know what the language is. Uh, >> pumping action.
>> Then read the next part. Maybe it'll put into perspective for us.
>> Oh, okay. I think I understand what he's asking. Okay. Gabriel asks if we consider the film more of a fistp pumping action where the sport and games themselves are the focal point of the movie or a tearjerker drama where the sport is a context vehicle for complex character development.
I think uh the ladder.
>> The ladder.
>> I mean, I'm not going to lie, when he was winning, I was like, "Oh [ __ ] this is awesome."
>> I don't I think in that last like boxing scene, I didn't say anything for like three minutes. I was just like >> Raptured. Yeah.
>> Whoa.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> But I still I still have to lean more on too because I don't think I would be as raptured in it if it weren't for the context.
>> Yeah. with all the stakes involved and what it meant for him and his daughter and his whole life and future. And >> I do wish we saw like what is the aftermath of it a little bit. Yes. And like is there >> does it leave room for a sequel? Just kidding.
>> Yeah. Or she does come back.
>> She comes back.
>> She faked her death the whole time so she could >> think she's coming back.
>> Uh I think it was um well it's like what happens with the Will Will Will's gym, you know, all the kids there. M I I thought there might be some like ending like ending. I felt like some stuff was cut out. Honestly, there was some stuff that felt was cut out. Like they said like there's going to be a lot of this thing into like hyping up the revenge match and all the [ __ ] talking they're going to do. There's >> a lot of [ __ ] talk >> but they didn't like normally what these movies what happens before matches.
There's a lot of like promos and then they do the press conferences and they [ __ ] talk each other and I thought that's what we were going to go into and it seems like they removed all that with the decision to have that one hard moment where he does say something about his wife in the fi in the almost final round. Um, so they seems like I think they cut that stuff out. I imagine there was in there >> because I actually will say I I was a bit surprised that at the very first mention of his wife, he just almost lost his temper immediately.
>> Mhm.
>> You know, >> I mean, it's pretty [ __ ] up.
>> Did they cut? Yes.
>> Um, >> whoa.
>> Oh, Tyrese Gibson was a whole character in this movie.
>> Not anymore.
>> Uh, yeah. Apparently, there was a lot of scenes that were that were cut out.
>> Wow.
>> Wow. There's like over eight minutes of deleted scenes.
>> Oh, look at look at why it says the cuts were made lame. It says the cuts were made to keep the film's pacing, ensuring the intense real-time fight scenes remain the focus. Boo. I >> mean, it accomplished his job, but I still feel like we would have uh had some good >> Yeah.
>> some good drama in there.
>> Anyway, all right. This is a real last question here.
>> Okay.
>> Question. Are there any lefty users in the rejects? The word southpaw literally means left fist.
Uh, yeah. See, I learned that from the Rocky franchise.
>> Okay.
>> So, he act like I know boxing, but it's like you mean that thing I learned in the Rocky?
>> Uh, yeah. The I'm not left-handed. Are you left-handed?
>> No.
>> I don't know anybody. No.
>> No.
>> No.
>> What is What is this? How uh how do I know I don't know who is left-handed here. I don't know any left-handed people.
>> Is Michael left-handed? I feel like he's ambidextrous.
I might be making that up.
>> Like he can go either way.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, he is.
>> No, not by obedience.
>> Well, I mean, isn't he didn't he like didn't he like say a whole thing on social media about that?
>> It's not like I'm outing you or something.
>> Is that like a whole thing? Maybe that's how he realized it.
>> Whoa. I can go.
>> I'm bisexual.
>> That's how I realized. just for you, Michael, since you brought Jackie into this reject world. Anyway, uh Jackie, second video you shot, first video up on the internet. How you feeling?
>> I'm feeling good. Uh as of today, let's see how I feel on Tuesday.
>> Yeah, >> please be nice to me.
>> Just read >> or like a little mean. I don't know.
>> The the advice I give is read every single comment.
>> Comment. That was actually my plan. So, I Yeah, I've blocked out time in my schedule. Um you guys can at me. I'll reply in the comments link.
>> Oh, and as a woman, >> there you go. And as a woman on the internet, you definitely want to read all the comments.
>> I want to read all the comments.
>> Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
>> Morals are higher.
>> There you go.
>> Morale something there.
>> Not moral.
>> All right, we're done now. All right.
Bye, everyone.
