When two mutually perpendicular forces act on a body, the resultant force is calculated using the Pythagorean theorem (F_net = √(F₁² + F₂²)), and the acceleration is found using Newton's second law (a = F_net/m). The direction of acceleration is determined by tan(θ) = opposite/adjacent, where θ is the angle with one of the forces. For a 5 kg body with 8 N and 6 N perpendicular forces, the acceleration is 2 m/s² at an angle of tan⁻¹(3/4) with the 8 N force.

NEET-2026 Q-14 | The magnitude and the direction of the acceleration produced in a body of mass 5 kgAjouté :
In this question given that the magnitude and the direction of the acceleration produced in a body of mass 5 kg when two mutually perpendicular forces 8 Newton and 6 Newton act on it respectively. So we have to calculate acceleration and the direction. So let us draw the scenario. You have a object of 5 kilogram and there are two forces acting on this body. One is let us consider f_sub_1 and another is f_sub_2.
They are mutually perpendicular to each other. Now we have to find out the resultant force of these two forces. So how can we calculate? We'll take the parallelogram method. We'll draw one parallelogram. So the resultant force will be this way. This angle is theta.
So let us draw it.
This angle is theta. Now this object is having mass 5 kg.
Now net force we'll calculate first of all net force is equal to F net as these two forces are perpendicular to each other. So f_sub_1² + f_sub_2². Now let us consider any of these force you can take. Let us take f_sub_1 is equal to 8 newton. F_sub_2 is equal to 6 Newton. So this is equal to 8 Newton and this is equal to 6 Newton.
So you are getting 8² + 6². So we'll get 10 Newton. So net force is 10 Newton and we know that net force is equal to mass into acceleration. So acceleration equal to net force 10 newton divide by mass is 5 kg. So you are having 2 m/s².
Now we are going to calculate the direction. So we can take tan theta all are given in terms of tan theta only. So if you consider the angle with 8 Newton then it will be easy to calculate because here three options are there with 8 Newton. So probability is more to get correct answer there. So tan theta is equal to opposite by adjacent. So opposite is 6 newton.
Adjacent is 8 Newton. So 6 by 8.
So tan theta you are getting 3x4 theta is equal to tan inverse 3x4 and this is the angle with the with 8 Newton force. So if you see the options, acceleration is 2 m/s squared.
Acceleration is 2 m/s squared and angle is tan inverse 3x4 with 8 Newton force. You are getting third option correct.
So third option will be correct answer.
