INCREDIBLE SEA CAVES to CAMP and FISH

[00:00:47]All right, everyone. Today we're going somewhere very special. I'm standing up above a whole series of caves right here. Got a backpack full of fishing gear, camping gear. We're going to head down there and uh go for an explore, catch something for dinner. And the reason why this is so special is I have always looked at this set of caves and thought I'd love to explore them, but it's always too rough to fish in front of them, so I don't bother. But today, the weather is absolutely incredible.

[00:01:19]There's like no swell. So, we're going to get down there, fishing water level, and uh seeing what we can catch for dinner. Let's get stuck into it. Cannot wait.

[00:01:42]Anyway, we've just come down.

[00:01:45]I just can't believe I didn't film it. I thought I was recording. Come down. We have a cave here. More caves around the corner there. And I was just eyeballing right in here with like really good looking water right in front of it as well.

[00:02:08]See, I've got the tent, so I need a flat spot.

[00:02:27]That is incredible. And I can just walk down and fish at the water's edge down there. This might be my spot. This is really nice. But yeah, there's more around the corner. I'm going to go have a quick look there and then we'll figure out where we're going to set up. But I actually brought a little bit of extra rope just in case I wasn't sure. So I've come down here, dropped my gear there.

[00:02:54]Got another one there. This is all flat, too. But I'm I'm really liking that other one around the corner really. And then this is the mega set of caves.

[00:03:17]I reckon I prefer the other spot. This is all right. I could fish here, but it's a bit washy.

[00:03:24]Um, let's go fish the other spot. Let's go set up in that first cave around the corner. Perfect. I um I brought down a cold gaff/n net with me because we're fishing so close to the water. I can Okay, I'm all rigged up. We got the heavy setup, which is 20k Saltigga on an Oceanceans Legacy Genesis P8 rod. 80 lb Tazline on that reel. And I'm going to be throwing a big 10-in catch fishing jerk shot right there.

[00:04:09]we might swap out. I brought a couple of stick baits. I brought a few other things. We also have the light setup which is a 4K surate 20 lb Teslan on that reel on an Oceans Legacy Dreamcast PE2 rod. And I have a much smaller placky on there that we're going to be flicking around. Might pick up Harley Braxy Cot on that. Might just get smoked. Might use it for bait. Let's get down there anyway. I got some burly I'm going to put in the water. That should get the fish activity going.

[00:06:01]Yeah, very quiet so far. I'm going to go for a bit of a walk around the other side, have a couple of casts, might see if we can collect a couple of crabs for bait as well while we're at it. And maybe we'll catch something around there instead. But not much happening here so far.

[00:06:42]All right. I've just put a fresh leader on and put a bait rig on. We've got three-way swivel. Short length goes to a hook. I've put a nice juicy crab on there. And um snapper lead right there on a lighter length of leader. That's probably about a meter, meter and a half long.

[00:07:33]Or is it? Un guess it was a cuttlefish or something.

[00:07:40]That's a big fish. Feels big anyway initially.

[00:09:30]There's a nice size western blue goper right there. Um, yeah, not as big as I thought it was going to be. Probably around the 8 to 10 kilo mark. Going to icky jimmy bleed. Put it to the side.

[00:09:44]Some beautiful fillets on this fish for dinner tonight. I'm stoked. It's always good to know that you have dinner in the bag. And we'll carry on casting, but not trying to catch another one of these things.

[00:11:11]All right. Not much is happening at the moment. Um, I'm going to go for a little explore. Actually, I want to check out the cave around the corner. See if I can get up into it if it's safe enough. And then after that, we're going to climb out, get some firewood, and um come back down, get that all ready, pitch the tent, because we're going to get a good fire going tonight. cook up a good meal.

[00:14:13]But I'm going to head back, get my backpack, get some firewood. I almost wish I was having a fire up here, but it's all right. The spot that I am is amazing, too. It's just I don't know. This spot takes my breath away a bit. It's just wow.

[00:15:49]>> I think it's about time we fill this groper. It's really nice and cool and shady in the cave, which is good. But I'm going to get the fillets off and I have a cooler bag with some ice in it that will throw them in there. That's where the brakes got is sitting at the moment.

[00:16:06]So, the Western Blue Grower is actually just a massive big rass. They get way bigger than this as well. This is a pretty average size one. They'll get over 40 kilos. My biggest that I've caught is probably around 30.

[00:16:21]They get pretty hard to stop after that.

[00:16:31]There we go. One very nice fillet. Let's lay that to the side.

[00:16:39]I'm just going to take a chunk off of this right now.

[00:16:46]Look at that. That is a lot of meat right there. And that's just like a little part of the shoulder. We'll bag that up separate and then we'll get these other fillets in bags into the cooler bag.

[00:20:41]Especially this band back there, which I think my tent is included in. But at least has a good waterproof floor.

[00:20:50]Oh, I'm going to enjoy my dinner. Enjoy the view. What an epic spot this is as well. Um, I'll definitely come back sometime if I can. I just don't know when I'll get weather appropriate fish down here again. And then all the other ledges around the other side.

[00:21:22]Good morning. Just getting up. There's a couple of mozzies here hanging around waiting for me to come out. Not too many, which is good. But I'm going to get up, cast a line in. It looks beautiful down there at the moment. We'll just fish for a little while this morning. Then we're going to pack up and head on. And I noticed like after the sun sets or even right now, it just the ocean sounds so noisy in here. Back in here, even though it's so calm, just got this real loud booming echo. I was almost expecting to see a bigger smell this morning, but I did also know that it's just cuz it's dark and all your senses get a bit more hiden, so the sounds become a lot louder.

[00:22:14]Um, yeah, we'll get up, head down, throw the last of the bell in, cast for a little while, and then we're going to move on.

[00:23:12]I'm just going to throw him back. How's his swim bladder? No, swim bladder's out. We're keeping him. Oh well. It's obviously pretty deep down there. Just a couple of casts this morning. We've already picked up a tasty little bracy cod. Uh was going to throw it back, but the swim bladder is out. So, dispatch, put to the side. We'll head down. We'll have a couple more casts. It's uh fillets to take home, which is always nice.

[00:24:19]Hey, if I wanted bait. So, I've just managed to fail hook a western king rass. They are brilliant bait.

[00:24:26]Beautiful looking fish. I'm going to turn that into two fillets to send out as bait. All right, just put my bait rig back on from yesterday. We have a very nice fillet there. I mean, you can eat these fish as well. I don't know if I've tried it.

[00:24:47]And let's send it down and see if something wants it. Another fillet there.

[00:25:03]All right, that's me done. One fish this morning. Um, no, two fish, one turned into bait. I forgot about that. I'm going to pack everything down up there, fill up the fish, put it in the cooler bag and all that, and then we're going to haul out of here.

[00:26:16]Caught plenty more to take home. Checked out all the caves. That last one is absolutely incredible. It's a shame it didn't have a flat spot to pitch the tent and somewhere decent to fish down in front of it. But stoked I got to explore it all. The one I did camp in was absolutely smiko for it.
