During World War II, Soviet radio operators of the Black Sea Fleet developed an innovative countermeasure against German radio communications by directing water streams from fire hoses (брандспойты) into enemy antenna systems, which disrupted the electrical resonance of the antennas and effectively jammed German radio transmissions; this technique was first demonstrated by Petty Officer Nikolay Kozlov in 1942 near Sevastopol and became a standard radio warfare tactic by the end of that year.
