Mashaile: Mogotsi’s arrest long overdue

[00:00:00]to our breaking news story tonight, Brown Mawoza has been arrested for allegedly faking his own assassination attempt in Fochville. Mawoza was nabbed this evening after a police multi-disciplinary team executed a warrant of arrest for defeating the ends of justice. He had claimed he was hijacked and that an attempt had been made on his life in Fochville, but investigators believe the incident was staged. Let's unpack this development with security strategist Andy Mashaile. Andy, thank you so much for your time tonight. As always, I just want to get your reaction when you heard the news of the arrest of Brown Mawoza.

[00:00:48]Malu, good evening to you and team majestic in the production space there.

[00:00:52]I was not surprised, Malu. A in fact, um I have been waiting um for uh for this kind of arrest. Looking at the uh the incident that he's arrested for, uh when when I looked at the pattern, when I looked at the sequence of events, and when you listen to the witness saying uh it was the only car that stopped there.

[00:01:25]There were no any other cars. Um from a um a wearing an investigator's head, I would have expected the police to have picked up the tracks of a vehicle A or B, either be it a a a broad tire um a vehicle or a motorbike or something of that nature. We did not hear SAPS speaking uh on those uh developments in the gathering of um evidence. So, I was not surprised uh especially for this um assassination in court or fake um assassination uh for the want of a better word or the fake hijacking for the want of a better word. I had seen this coming a long way off, Malema. I'm not surprised.

[00:02:18]>> Okay, how much of a trouble is he in then?

[00:02:22]Uh he's in serious trouble. Remember, besides defeating the ends of justice, uh you have caused a state um to invest in uh resources uh that would be your forensic science laboratory people coming there, some of them going on overtime, and them investigating, and the police following leads that do not exist. So, long story short, just when you look at the overtime uh aspect uh of the the people and the teams that could have been deployed. Those markings that you seeing on that on the body of that vehicle suggest that um money was spent for those stickers. And I wouldn't uh be surprised when the state says they want to recoup money from him for uh sending them on a goose chase. And for this instance, I think some more charges might be added uh onto defeating the ends of justice.

[00:03:22]>> In In fact, Andy, that was going to be my next question, whether are we likely to see more charges being added uh against him in this particular matter.

[00:03:31]We know that he's appearing in court in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

[00:03:38]Um yeah, I think that more charges will be added, Malema. Uh having had raised those issues and uh of the costing and having had uh raised the issues of overtime and the bodies the warm bodies who have uh um converged onto that crime scene. Quite a number of factors, dynamics that come into play, suggest to me that there might be some charges that will be added onto his initial or base charge. The The The The police statement speak about preliminary investigations, right? That revealed that the firearm that was used in the commission of the crime had also been linked to other serious crimes, including murder and attempted murder.

[00:04:32]And you, what do we make of that, really?

[00:04:35]If that firearm is found in the possession of Mr. Mohale, I am telling you, Malema, he's not going to see the light of day out of those cells.

[00:04:49]Um, should the investigators get hold of that firearm, and Mr. Mohale would now have to explain if it was used in in the commission of a crime of murder and other serious crime, he must explain where does he get the gun from. As we are learning from the witness that he shot at his own car, meaning that firearm that was used on that car, given what forensic science laboratory will reveal to us through the spokesperson, the cartridges I am certain when it is alleged that that firearm was used in other serious crime incidents. I am certain that Mr. Mohale is going to be asked nicely or painfully to explain where he got hold of that firearm and where that firearm is. I'm assuming that in and around that space there might have been cameras in the event that there were cameras, footage would be downloaded. If there were no cameras, someone somewhere must have seen him doing that. And as I suspected, the witness came out of the thicket of this incident to say, "I saw this man shoot at his own car. There was no any other car except for him and his beautiful car." All right. And the security strategist, Andy Mashaile, thank you so much for your time tonight.
