Political investigations often focus on inner circles and nonprofit finances, where conflicts of interest arise when political figures direct corporate donations to their family's charities while simultaneously enriching themselves through private inurement, raising questions about transparency and accountability in political fundraising.

Newsom Family Scandal Grows - The Questions CNN Won't Answer
Added:Jennifer Seabel Newsome, the wife of California's governor and potential 2028 presidential contender Gavin Newsome is currently under federal investigation for possible tax crimes.
>> The full scope of the investigation into the first partner is unclear. The documentary filmmaker founded Representation Project, a nonprofit focused on gender equity in media.
>> I love uh champion and focusing on uplifting and supporting women and girls. She also owns a film production company called Girls Club Entertainment, which is listed as a contractor on the Representation Project's tax returns.
And she co-founded the California Partners Project, a nonprofit that works to get more women onto corporate boards, address the gender pay gap, and make tech safer for children. Critics have raised the possibility of self-deing for years despite no public evidence of wrongdoing. While it is unclear what exactly investigators are focused on, they have recently interviewed potential witnesses, including people close to the first couple. Sources tell CNN that the governor is not directly under investigation.
But he has framed the probe as politically motivated and targeting him.
>> Donald Trump isn't just coming after me because of my mean tweets. He's coming after me because I'm considering running for president. The tax probe is not the only recent investigation into someone in Newsome's orbit. His former chief of staff, Dana Williamson, was recently prosecuted related to corruption. She pleaded guilty to three charges earlier this year. President Trump has made it clear he wants his justice department to pursue his political enemies. Just last year, he called for Newsome to be arrested and has attacked him repeatedly.
>> He's ruined California. Gives healthcare to anybody. CNN has learned the current investigation was launched last year by the US attorney's office in Sacramento based on a whistleblower report. All right, let's first start with CNN. You know, they did cover it, but did you notice that they couldn't they couldn't just tell the total truth? They're like, well, you know, Trump does go after his political enemies, but this actually doesn't have anything to do with Trump.
And so yes, while Trump is criticizing Nuome and the statement that they aired where Trump said Newsome gives healthcare to anyone is 100% true. That is a very valid critique of what Gavin Newsome is doing in California. That is also not why Newsome is under investigation. And more to the point, he isn't directly under investigation. It is in fact his wife and also his chief of staff. So, we've talked about this on the show before. Dana Williamson, who is his former chief of staff, has now plead guilty to three felonies. So, one is campaign fund embezzlement. Then you've got bank fraud, and you've got wire fraud. And the investigation into his inner circle is because they have already ins snared two other people who were involved in these crimes. One of which, as we've mentioned on the show before, was arguably the next governor of California, Javier Bera's former chief of staff. So, they're trying to get to the bottom of how deep does this go? You know, how farreaching are the tentacles to these crimes? That's valid.
There's public evidence for that. And Newsome is the tip of that spear. So, I don't think they'll find anything there with regard to his involvement. This is a guy that is a Nepo baby with millions of dollars. There's no way he's going to jeopardize his career for several hundred,000.
But that is why the investigation into his inner circle is happening now. The wife is a bit more nefarious. It really is. So yes, she's got two nonprofits and she has been raising tens of millions of dollars through her husband's donors. So Gavin Nuome has engaged in what's called beested payments. So he's gone to his donors like Comcast, Black Rockck, Apple, Pacific Gas and Electric and he's asked them, hence this concept of beested.
He's asked them to donate to his wife's charities. And another little irony here, she talks about how she advocates for women and girls, but what she really does is advocate for you know, sex changes for children.
That's what she really does. And arguably biological males in female sports and biological males in women's prisons. But that's, you know, hey, let's to each his own with regard to what it means to be a true feminist.
Having said that, there are two other areas of concern that they're being investigated on. And again, we've talked about one of these on the show before.
It's very possible he's being investigated for his ties to China. So way back in the day when Gavin Newsome was the mayor of San Francisco, he started something called China SF and it allows Chinese businessmen uh who arguably have connections to the CCP like a gentleman named Vincent Low to come into California and buy land and start businesses and he will remove literally this is what it was. he would remove the red tape for them despite the fact that Californians are buried in mountains of red tape and he did veto a bill that would have blocked them China from buying land in California. Uh he famously infamously cleaned up the streets of San Francisco in a matter of days when Xihinping came to town and then of course it was you know the ninth circle of hell the minute that he left.
Uh, and last but not least, you've got a really suspicious situation with his $9 million mansion. So, people are trying to figure out, I think his salary is around $1.5 million a year, right? and his wife has not just taken those behested payments into her charity, but she has what many are wondering um she has wondering about paid herself and her for-profit production company millions of dollars out of these nonprofits. So, they're saying like, hey, is this, you know, is this unethical? should she not be enriching herself in these ways out of her nonprofit to such an exorbitant degree. We're talking millions of dollars that she has taken personally.
And people are wondering where did this LLC that bought a $9 million mansion get $9 million? If he makes $1.4 $4 million a year and he's got his kids in private school and he's got to pay taxes and you start to break that all down. Where do you acrewue $9 million when you haven't sold your other house? And a lot of people think that she is inappropriately enriching herself. I think it's called private incurement. When you profit off of a nonprofit in ways that are unethical, when you take millions of dollars from a nonprofit to privately enrich yourself from behested payments from your husband's political donors.
Oh, there's no public evidence. Oh, you don't think that's shady as hell, CNN?
What do you mean there's no public evidence? She has taken millions of dollars from her nonprofits that her husband went and procured donations for from companies that by the way have monopolies in California like PG& and Comcast. I don't know. It's shady as hell. And the situation with China is shady as hell. And the situation with the former chief of staff is shady as hell. This has been going on for over a year. It was started in California by California state employees who blew the whistle on them, not Trump. That's a lie. And this little pivot panic that this guy did with a lastm minute press conference, by the way. And oh, hold on.
Let's not forget to note that he is very clearly reading a script. Remember when he lied to all of her faces, "You've never seen me read a speech. You've never seen me read a script." Well, boy, Homeboy had no problem when his ass is on the line, jumping to the podium and reading that script and flipping the script to pretend that he is on Trump's hit list to make him seem not only innocent, but like a martyr. Donald Trump isn't just coming after me because of my mean tweets. He's coming after me because I'm considering running for president. because he hates that I've consistently called him out over and over again for his lies and deceit.
>> If this man becomes their nominee, the devastation and the chaos that has landed and wrought havoc upon California under his rule will become a nationwide problem. And it doesn't matter if you don't like Trump. If you're on the left and you don't like Trump and you're like, "Yeah, but look what happened with Trump." It's irrelevant. Doesn't matter.
has nothing to do with whether or not Gavin Newsome becomes president. And I am here to tell you as a refugee of California who is now living in Wyoming, do not make this your problem. Don't do it because it really, really sucks. I promise. That's all I think I've got on that one. Did I cover it, Fletch? Did I get all the details in there? I miss anything?
>> Absolutely. I mean, it's it's just the hypocrisy with it. Uh, I mean, when he when Nuome was up on that podium, he also used the time to describe Trump as the most corrupt politician.
>> Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt president in American history.
>> But I just want to show you another clip that just came out uh showing some some corruption going on in California right under voters's noses. Guys, can we play ST 11?
California decided to raise your taxes.
But here's one thing that really stood out to me. Do you remember the Stop Nick Shirley Act? There's a group called Sherawa that is lobbying the government and pushing that bill to prevent journalists from independently reporting on immigration support services. Well, guess what they get in the budget? They get $5 million.
I decided to go back and look into what's happened over the last few years.
Shera has gotten $40 million in your taxpayer funds to lobby the government.
They've also somehow were a voting center. And guess where they spend most of their time doing a lot of their work?
Oh, Los Angeles. Hm. I wonder if [clears throat] there was an election that went on in Los Angeles that got a little bit weird when it comes to the data.
>> Yeah, this is the loop. Chura donates to Newsome's campaign. And in fact, they were one of the top contributors to his campaign when he was defending against the recall efforts.
I don't know how this is legal, but he essentially gives these NOS's millions of dollars and then they donate back to his campaign.
And it is so dirty and so corrupt, but somehow legal. All right, guys. If you like this clip and you want to watch the full episode, click here.
