[00:00:00]The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service hosted their 20th National Climate Outlook Forum for 2026 wet season, and a lot was covered during this forum. But, what I really want to zone in on are their expectations for the Atlantic hurricane season, specifically for our area of interest.

[00:00:19]I'm Zena James, let's get into the nitty-gritty of it all. Now, what exactly is the area of interest for Trinidad and Tobago? Well, this is the region that stretches between the west coast of Africa and extends all the way to the eastern Caribbean. Now, anything that develops within this zone is considered a concern for Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, and the surrounding islands. So, whenever we approach the Atlantic hurricane season, there are several recognized organizations and companies that release their seasonal predictions, whether the season is expected to be above average, below average, or near average. Now, most of those outlooks focus on the entire Atlantic basin, but what the TTMS does is narrow the focus specifically for our area of interest and what is expected within that region. So, the Met Service is forecasting a near-normal hurricane season for 2026. So, let's break down what that actually means. And when we talk about average, we mean the climatological average, basically what has happened over the past 20 years. And on average, our area of interest usually sees about four named storms with one potentially becoming a hurricane. And looking at the side by side with the 2026 outlook, and the TTMS is forecasting about three named storms and one still having the potential to become a hurricane. So, overall, we are looking at a near-average or near-normal season for our region. And again, now is the time to start preparing. Now, with that in mind, let's move on to what's happening currently across our region.

[00:01:59]Like we anticipated, that really dry tropical wave has already passed us and is now over the Caribbean waters and parts of of Southern America. So, it is still carrying limited moisture. So, although we saw a few brief showers throughout the day, tonight is expected to remain mostly dry aside from one or two showers that we could see lingering over eastern Trinidad. Overnight temperatures will once again remain really warm in the mid-20s for both islands, around 25 and 26°.

[00:02:29]So, heading into tomorrow, we are really not expecting much of a change. So, we are going to stick with those mostly sunny skies that will continue.

[00:02:37]Although, there could still be one or two brief showers, especially early in the morning, but those showers, like I said, will be brief. Temperature-wise, we are not expecting much variation either with highs around 33° in Trinidad and a slightly cooler, but still warm 31° for Tobago. And if you have an interest in the seas to try and beat the heat, well, conditions are expected to ease slightly, but it will still remain moderate with wave heights near 2 m in open waters and below 1 m in sheltered areas. And with nothing significant affecting our tides, here's a quick look at your high tide and low tide times for both Trinidad and Tobago.
