This video demonstrates the installation of aftermarket electrical components in a first-generation Cummins diesel truck, including wiring a fan relay system with constant 12V power, temperature sensor connections, and throttle position sensor (TPS) wiring that requires a 5V reference and return signal, while also addressing challenges like identifying unexpected power wires to the radio and ensuring proper component fitment.

Ep. 4 MINT First Gens : Memorial Day UpdateAdded:
All right, what's up, guys? Welcome back. So, this is going to be the start of a new video. And I just want to say I hope you guys had a great Labor Day weekend. I'm sorry for skipping one day on our daily uploads. Uh me and Andy decided that this weekend we were going to find a way to get on the water, which were very close to the lake and both my family and girlfriend's family, they all have boats and everything. So, we went out and Andy and I and both of our girlfriends went out on the lake and we hung out all day and had a great time.
Got sunburnt, got in the water even though it was like 69 or degrees, something like that. It was it was cold.
We got in there and took a dip every now and then to cool off and yeah, we enjoyed ourselves and I hope you guys did too. And then today, um my whole family's at our lake um hanging out, but I I have to get stuff done so I'm staying over here today. But it was good hanging out with friends and family to say the least. So, let's go over where I've made progress today. Ellie hang around hung around for quite a while and watch me do some of this stuff. But where we are at now, you can see we got some wires ran over here where the anteater stuff's going to happen for the TPS. I've got quite a few more grounds hooked up. We got another power hooked up for our fast. Um, we've we've been running a bunch of aftermarket stuff.
Um, just getting that all ran and wired how we need it. Now, there's one wire I need to call Derek. I'm going to call him right after I get off here and ask him what this wire is for. It goes up into the dash looks like to the back side of the radio, but there should be no reason that there should be a power wire going to the back of the radio if that factory harness is being used with like an adapter from Crutchfield. Um, you shouldn't need this. So, if we can get away with not having to put this on, that will be phenomenal. Um, one of the next things that we're going to do, obviously, clean cleaning stuff up is just part of it.
But, one of the next things I'm going to start getting stuff ran for is our fan relay uh wiring. So, I'm going to double check that's all wired correctly. And then we're going to start running some of it because uh the constant 12vt for the relay needs to be hooked up over here to this last slot. Uh we have a switch to our fan which is going to go to our sensor on the head. And then we got obviously got other trigger stuff. Um but yeah, so I mean there's there's a handful of wires that still need ran over here, but I'm going to loom everything in this relay harness to make it look nice. Um we've got our TPS wire ran over here from the anater. I just went with red cuz I didn't have any blue. And then once we get that, I mean, we kind of need our TPS deal, our holder and everything to make sure the lengths are right, but we'll get it close without it. And then we're going to need our other wires. So that thing uses a 5V reference and a return signal. So yeah, all that good stuff we will need.
But that is where we're at with Glenn's truck. It's coming along very well.
Well, I'm excited to do the making it look pretty portion like I mentioned before, but uh it's certainly coming along and I'm I'm thrilled with it. The really upsetting part is I'm not sure that I took a before video or a before picture and I don't usually keep these videos after I upload them. So, we'll see. I might have to go back and screenshot something from one of the original videos, but you guys that have been watching every one of them know that there's already a huge difference and you'll know that that's a big difference. But I'm hoping to to make sure I do that. But it's like 3 We got 3:25. So, we still got a lot of daylight left. The sun's about to start working its way into the shop. It's going to get really hot. But we're going to just keep keep making progress and getting stuff knocked out because I I need this to be done. We have too much to do to the blue truck and the bags and trailer brake controller just showed up for the third gen. So, we got to work on that truck, too. So, it's time to continue getting stuff done. Um, very thrilled with progress. Let's run up to the other shop and show you where Andy made it with Derek's. He's not up there currently, but uh, we'll get an update from him later in the day. We'll go ahead and look at what he's done. So, I know that Andy swung by earlier and he test fitted um, my real my big air filter that for my GT55 in here and it fit nice. Um, it was very very close with these AC lines and stuff. Like that's that's the biggest difference is mine doesn't have any of that so it's not a problem. But that fit in there good. If you guys can now see, there's like a a van engine clamp, a V or a Vibrant basically on there. And yeah, so he's got this charge pipe done, which is great. And yeah, now it will just be the downpipe. He's going to get some more gas tomorrow for our uh bottle and continue working on it. So, great progress on Derrick's truck. Um, I'm I know Dererick's still been up to date with what's going on, but uh yeah, this is where we're at with this one. So, good progress all around and we're going to continue doing so. So, hopefully with the coming videos, you guys are excited. Whether it's whether you're a firstg person and this is kind of the stuff you want to see, whether you're just interested in maybe some of my stuff, whether it's the blue truck and wanting to see some test hits or even if you're a third gen person and maybe you want to put bags on your truck and uh a trailer brake controller. Well, and cuz yours didn't come with a tow package, then we're going to be doing that as well. So, uh we'll be videoing all that stuff and hopefully you guys enjoy it.
So, I'll keep you guys updated throughout this video on where we get with these pickups. Okay. So, gonna go over real quick where I'm going to finish today because I've got I've got orders that I need to fulfill also. So, I'm going to try and get those done. If I when I get done with those, if I still have time, then I'll come back out here and work on this. But, uh, I've got orders that have to go out tomorrow to meet some deadlines for UCCC.
But, we're looking good. I verified my the fan relay stuff and make sure it's wired correctly, and it uh, for the most part, it was. I don't see any issues with how it was wired. Um, I've ran wires from the relay to in the cab. So, we're good there. And I ran ran it up here to the fuse box.
So, that last wire is the fan one.
So, really good progress. A lot of the aftermarket stuff is coming along quite nicely. I've thrown out a good bit of wires from the inside.
Um, I need to start throwing everything in this box. This is only a few of the wires that I've pulled out. I need to get everything in there so it's you can tell more. But, uh, yeah, pretty solid.
We got a lot of the stuff pulled down through here. And I need to get a new, uh, keyed on one because of this guy.
That is not going to work. So, I need to swing by the parts store and grab a new one of those.
But yeah, I am pretty happy with how this weekend came along. Obviously, I would like to get it all done in a weekend and a lot of scenarios that would happen, but there's just a lot going on with this one. So, want to make sure it's right and everything looks good.
And yeah, so we're getting closer and closer to the making it look pretty part. I cannot wait for that. So, I'm going to go fulfill some orders.
If you guys are waiting, I apologize, but it will go out tomorrow. So, that is promising. I'm going to get this video thrown up. This is just a short update uh to kind of wrap up Memorial Day weekend and where we got. So, uh coming into this week, there will be a lot of stuff going on. We're going to be getting after it pretty hot and heavy. I mean, there's a lot of stuff to do. So, yeah, as you guys already told you guys all this. So, until next time, we will see you guys on the old school crew. And uh yeah, hopefully you enjoyed your weekend. Peace out.
