A TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter measures the concentration of dissolved minerals and salts in water, with lower readings indicating purer water; distilled water showed the lowest reading (0 PPM), followed by spring water (148 PPM), while tap water and Berkey filtered water showed similar readings (286 PPM), demonstrating that TDS meters can effectively compare water quality but do not measure contaminants, bacteria, or overall water safety.

Tap vs Berkey vs Spring vs Distilled Water | TDS Meter Test Results
Added:tap water, Berkey water, spring water, and distilled.
And what you do is you take off this and put that in the water and it's going to tell you if it's good or bad and it tells you what the decibels or whatever should be, the PPM, all that good stuff. I'm going to use tap water first. I'm going to put some tap water in here.
Okay, Berkey water is going in this one.
And this is the Berkey Berkey. Now, I'm going to open the spring water and put it in this one, open the distilled and put it in this one, and then we're going to test them.
Okay, so the first one is the tap water.
So, you turn the button on.
It's at zero, so I'm going to place it in the water.
289.
Okay, so as soon as you take it out, it goes off.
So, 50 to 100, it's not that bad.
Um No, wait a minute.
Oh, I'm sorry. 78.8 is the temperature. Okay.
So, the PPM is 28.6 uh 286.
So, 100 to 300, hard water, marginally acceptable average tap water. So, you see?
It actually does read that it's tap water. Okay, so let's take it out. I'm going to just dry it off.
Okay, so now the Berkey.
Which is around the same as the tap water. Isn't that interesting because this is supposed to be really good filtered water.
But I mean it's still okay. It's still acceptable.
But it's not like, you know, to zero.
But the distilled water should be zero to 50. So we're going to see. Okay.
Just dry that off.
Okay, now the spring water.
Spring water is a little better. 150 three. No, 150.
Oh, look, it's going down. Okay, let me give it a minute.
148. That's actually not bad.
It's a lot It's a lot less than the other two. And now let's see the distilled. The distilled should be the lowest number.
So let's see.
Shake it a bit. Look at this. Are you kidding me? Zero.
And zero is high purity water, ideal drinking water, distilled water, etc. Look at that.
That is the distilled water.
And let's see what happens if we pour some tap water into the distilled.
I want to see if it changes.
Yep. Look at that.
You see that? Now it's going up.
So the the distilled water, I mean it doesn't have the minerals um that we apparently need, but it is the safest drinking water attachment. But yeah, the Berkey I'm surprised that it was the same as the tap water. The spring was a little better, but distilled is actually the best. So yeah, if you want to test your water, get one of these things. It's pretty pretty pretty cool.
