Saving Veterans Memorials

[00:00:00]We ended all the years of litigation against [music] veterans memorials that happen to have religious imagery. One of the things that veterans have done in our country to make sure that we don't forget those who have fallen, those who have sacrificed and paid the ultimate price for [music] our nation is they put up various veterans memorials all across the country. Mount Soladab Veterans Memorial, it's in La Hoya, California.

[00:00:23]The American Legion put that up along with some local veterans there in La Hoya. They took care of that for well almost a half a century before the ACLU decided they didn't like it. We ended up having the privilege of representing the Mount Soladad Memorial Association and ultimately winning a victory. We also got to win a a tremendous case to save the 40ft peace cross in Bladensburg, Maryland that was put up after World War I by the mothers of the fallen soldiers from Prince George's County. And Marines, too. I was in the army. We don't want to forget the Marines. And in a fantastic victory, not only were we able to change the law when it comes to memorials of all kinds that have religious imagery, [music] but we ended all the years of litigation against veterans memorials that happen to have religious imagery. And it was just such a a a privilege to be able to represent those veterans that culminated in a Supreme Court case that saved veterans memorials all across the country.
