Alex Ikemefuna Ekubo, popularly known as Alex Ekubo, was a Nigerian actor, model, entertainer, and humanitarian who became one of Nollywood's notable screen personalities through his performances in movies, television production, and comedy projects.
He was born on April 10th in 1986 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in the South-South, Nigeria, but was originally from Arochukwu in Abia State in the South-Eastern, Nigeria.
The actor was known for his towering physique to frame and speaks English, Igbo, and Hausa fluently.
He grew up in a close-knit family to Mr. and Mrs. Oraekwe. He had three siblings.
He attended Federal Government College, Dura in Kaduna State, and studied law at the University of Calabar.
In 2021, he received an honorary degree in Arts and Culture from ISCG University in Cotonou, Benin.
He started his journey in the entertainment industry first as a model after emerging the first runner-up at the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest, a platform that helped launch his career in the entertainment industry.
He joined Nollywood and began acting professionally in 2003 and debuted a minor role in the movie, Sinners in the House, and quickly established himself as one of Nollywood's leading actors.

He was best friends with Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna and Uti Nwachukwu, a Nigerian fashion designer Yomi Casual. Together, they were called the Shop Life Gang. In his personal life, Alexx Ekubo attracted significant media attention. In 2021, he faced a major social media scandal after his fiancee, Fancy Acholonu, broke off their engagement after 5 years relationship.
She was a Nigerian-American model and actress based in Los Angeles, USA.
However, in August 2021, Fancy Acholonu announced the end of their engagement just 3 months before the actual date of wedding. Following the breakup, several rumors and speculations circulated online concerning their relationship and Alexx Ekubo's personal life. In a later interview, Fancy made several controversial statements about their relationship, including claims regarding intimacy and compatibility.
She alleged that Alexx Ekubo did not have any sexual relationship with her throughout their 5-year relationship.

Alexx Ekubo reportedly died on May 12, 2026 at the age of 40 at the Evercare Hospital in Lagos. His family later confirmed that he died from complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer after what they described as a brief and courageous battle with the illness. According to the family's statement, Alexx Ekubo endured his illness privately with remarkable strength, faith, and hope while continuing to reassure friends and colleagues that he was fine. After his death, the statement released by his family showed that he was survived by his wife and other family members.
Following Alexx's demise, tributes from fans and colleagues across Nigeria and beyond, several Nollywood stars mourned him and described him as kind-hearted, cheerful, supportive, and talented.
Alexx Ekubo lived a comfortable lifestyle through acting, endorsements, modeling, and entertainment-related businesses. He was known for his love for fashion, traveling, luxurious cars, and stylish living. Many online reports estimated that his net worth is above 1 million US dollars. He owned luxury vehicles and owns a mansion grand residence in Lagos, Nigeria. Despite his celebrity lifestyle, Alexx Ekubo was described by his colleagues and fans as humble, friendly, calm, and approachable. His demise was a great loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry. Alexx Ekubo will be remembered for his handsome screen presence, stylish personality, impactful performances, and contributions to Nollywood.
