The problem is that a bear in hibernation is in an extremely fragile state. During this period, its heart rate and metabolism drop massively to conserve as much energy as possible and survive for months without really eating. And that's exactly why a sudden awakening can become very dangerous for it. Every minute spent awake causes it to lose essential energy that it was supposed to preserve until spring. That's also why bears choose dens that are very isolated and difficult to access. These dens protect them from the cold, the wind, and especially from outside disturbances. But in this scene, the excavator is literally destroying that safe space. And the moment a bear feels its den is threatened, its behavior can change instantly. We can see it becoming extremely stressed, aggressive, and then trying to close the entrance back up with its paws. This behavior is not random. After an intrusion, some bears instinctively try to seal or protect their den to regain a safe place as quickly as possible. The problem is that a bear awakened too early can also become completely disoriented. Its body was not prepared to become active again that quickly. And in some regions, disturbing a bear during hibernation can genuinely reduce its chances of surviving until the end of winter. Which means that in this video, the bear wasn't simply angry. It was reacting like an animal whose only safe place had just been destroyed during the most vulnerable period of its life.
