High pressure systems create stable atmospheric conditions that result in clear skies, calm winds, and temperature moderation, while low pressure systems bring instability, cloud cover, and precipitation; in Metro Detroit, high pressure currently maintains sunny conditions with temperatures in the 50s, but a low pressure system moving in Tuesday will bring rain showers and thunderstorms, followed by a warming trend to the 60s-70s by mid-week.

When to expect rain next in Metro DetroitAdded:
Talk about a classic Michigan day. You wake up with a frost Was it a warning or an advisory?
Whatever frost was in there somewhere and then here we go soaring up with high temps.
>> I know and you know it'll still be cool but comfortable as we go further throughout the day today and we're getting in on some sunshine. So can't complain about starting off the work week like that. A live look in Southfield showcasing those blue skies.
We've seen a few little white puffy clouds out there and as we go further on through the afternoon into your evening yeah not going to rule out seeing a few more of those. We'll stay mostly sunny as you head further throughout your day today but you can see plenty of well defined shadows there in that live look from Southfield. Traffic moving along fine and hey it's good news for all of that construction happening and those crews can continue to work on those jobs. Right now throughout Southeast Michigan we are high and dry expecting to stay that way thanks to high pressure. Further north you're a little bit chillier. You can see right now in Sandusky you're 46. Port Huron coming in at 50 along with Flint versus 53 in Romulus. Adrian coming in at 54 along with Monroe. As we go further through the afternoon going to tack on just a handful of degrees to where we are now.
A little bit of a light breeze out of the north. It's at about 5 mph or so if that and as we go further throughout the afternoon this is what's helping to keep those temperatures a little on the cooler side. So high pressure in control here giving us mostly sunny skies throughout the day today. It does help to keep us clear tonight and that gives us that potential for those temperatures to drop off and another chance at some of that patchy frost. Now we head into tomorrow and we'll start off with some sunshine but we don't end the day that way. Next low pressure system moving in brings in increasing clouds and by the afternoon we add in that possibility of seeing a little bit of rain maybe even hearing a few rumbles to round out our Tuesday. So going through the rest of today looking at again mostly sunny skies. Should get a pretty good sunset out of today for many neighborhoods as we see just a few of those clouds linger. Into your evening all is quiet.
It's the same story right on into the late night hours. Now, we go overnight tonight again with those generally clear skies. So, it'll be a cool start to our Tuesday, a little on the chilly side with a lot of 30s out there, but at least we'll start off with a bit of some sun before we add in those clouds. And really by lunchtime, we bring in that chance to see some rain. Scattered showers will continue on and off through the afternoon. Some of us will have rain for the evening commute as well. And not going to rule out hearing a few rumbles of thunder as we go further into our Tuesday night and even into early Wednesday, but we're not expecting anything severe. So, for today, highs for the northward lower to middle 50s.
You'll be slightly warmer than that, closer to the 60Β° mark a little further south. So, below normal, we should be seeing upper 60s this time of year.
Luckily, we're going to get there. As we head into tonight, another one to cover up those plants, bring them inside, make sure to protect them as we see those temperatures, especially out of the immediate metro area, dropping into those lower to middle 30s. So, we have that chance to start off tomorrow with another round of frost. And then look at the warm up we have ahead of us. Rain does move in later Tuesday into Wednesday. However, we at least get back up to the 60s for the middle part of the week. And then into the end of the week, we bring back some sunshine Thursday and Friday, 60s to low 70s before we're back up near 80Β° as we head into the upcoming weekend with another chance of rain Saturday.
