The Pahlavi Papyri are Middle Persian documents written in the difficult-to-read Pahlavi cursive script, discovered in Egypt and dating from 619-629 CE during the brief period when Egypt came under Sasanian Persian rule. These documents represent an exceptional remnant of the complex Sasanian bureaucracy and provide crucial evidence for understanding the empire's political and military structure during its peak. However, less than five percent of the preserved Pahlavi documents have been published to date, making this research area still largely unexplored.
