Hello valued viewers. I hope you're all doing very well and welcome to our latest World War II one. Well, not one versus one today. It's actually one versus two or three versus two. Today we have the second in our series of what can beat Montana. The most powerful battleship America ever drew on paper and the Iowa successor that never even got her keel laid. She was meant to be the answer to the battleships of the axes that were never built. More guns and thicker armor. a true ship of the line. But by 1943, the aircraft carriers ruled the seas and the resources that would have built her produced some of the Essex class carriers. In this series, she has been constructed and the only question is what can beat Montana?
Today, we see if the two biggest German battleships ever built can do the job.
And to meet your valued viewer request, Montana herself has an escort. Our YouTube members could have chosen the Japanese pairing of Eay and Nagato, but they didn't. They chose to pit the fjord queen Turpets and the Huntress Bismar versus the mighty Montana and her two escort destroyers. Welcome to Grim Reapers War on the Sea. Viewers, our setout today is this is the western southwestern tip of Iceland. We have the two are we going to call them the ugly sisters today, guys?

30,000 yds south is the triple of Montana and we have summers class and we have summer's class. Viewers, for this to make sense or to be important, we need to go over the stats. I'll do it as quickly as I can. So Montana, if we remember, dimensions 920 ft long, 120 ft in the beam, 63,000 tons, 28 knots, 2,800 men. Weapons, what does her damage is a big 16 in mark 7s 12 in four turrets by 50 long, 42,000 yard range, 30 second reload time. Secondary guns, 5-in guns, 20 of them, 54 long mark 16s, 26,000 yds, reload time 5 seconds. We have her sensors and armor 11 mile visual horizon 27 m radar horizon, armor belt 18 in, deck 10 in, mag 21 in, turret bridge 23 in, and superructure 15 in. The destroyers we don't use yet because we haven't done any well much destroyer work at all. So, let's have a quick look and remind ourselves.
Summer's class, 380 ft long, 36 feet wide, just over 2,000 tons, 39 knots.
Speed is everything. Uh, crew 235 men.
Weapons, 5-in gun, Mark 22, 38 long, and they have eight of them. So, it's a pretty heavy destroyer. 18,000 yd range, 17,000 yd range, reload time 5 seconds.
Torpedoes Mark 15, 16 of them, 14,000 yd range, 26 27 knots. Quickly go over the sisters. They're almost identical. So maybe I'll just go over one. Actually, let's go over Bismar. They are about 50,000 tons each, 820 ft long, and 118 ft in the beam. Max speed 30 knots, about 2,000 me. Weapons, they both have 15-in guns in four turrets, 52 long.
40,000 yd range, 24 second reload time.
Secondary guns 16 4.1 in 65 long 20,000 yd range 4 second reload time. Tertiary guns 12 of them 5.9 in 55 long 25,000 yard range 10 second reload time since armor very similar visual horizon 11 mi surface search radar 10 mi belt 13 in deck 5 in mag 13 in turret 14 in bridge 14 in superructure 8 in and just to show the turrets had the upgraded radar density so let me just prove that very quickly she has 22 uh nautical radar so a much bigger radar on turpps We're going to have Chief controlling the ugly sisters. We're going to have Dirty controlling Montana and her escort.
Before we take orders, let me just explain why uh it was been agreed to have these destroyer escorts in viewers.
Montana does have a weak point. We found it's a bit of an unrealistic weak point.
Let me explain. You've got all these secondary guns. Let me try and get an angle. One, there two, there three, there four, there five turrets. But in game, just the way game works, if I were to go here, you can see they just have one hit box. So it just needs that one hit box to get hit. Basically whatever it is that area there and they all go down which is has it's a bit of an Achilles heel and a bit unrealistic. I think we'll all agree. So to help compensate for that we've got the two destroyers in. Speaking of destroyers, can I have initial orders from Montana and her escorts, please?

Bismar's amazingly got the best solution. She's targeting Montana.

That's what they do. So, we've had to put some rules in place about avoiding the torpedoes because of gameplay reasons because we can see the torpedoes here. Does anyone want to go run through that, Willie? Yeah, we just basically have a gentleman's agreement that um typically you could not see the torpedoes till about 1,000 yards. Yes, we know if you had hydrophones, you could probably hear them be launched, but we're trying to make it a little fairer.
