In political transitions, smooth power transfer requires the outgoing leader to fully step back from active political involvement; when a leader maintains influence in the legislature while a new leader takes charge, it creates competing power centers that can cause friction and undermine the transition process.

What Siddaramaiah’s Hug & Blessing To DKS Means For Congress And Karnataka | Power Shift ExplainedAjouté :
me live is Vir Raghav. Vir, I have a couple of questions for you. Let's just start with the big picture, the big takeaways when it comes to that breakfast power meeting. We saw hugs, we saw blessings, we saw tears, and we saw a lot of optics. Is this the smooth transition the Congress is hoping for?
>> Well, I think we need to listen carefully to what H.K. Patil, the minister, just told Shivaru Vedika. The The last answer was the most important. That's Siddaramaiah refusing to go take a Rajya Sabha seat. Why does the Congress want him with a Rajya Sabha seat? They want him because when you take the Rajya Sabha seat, you move out of the legislative assembly.
>> Yes.
>> As long as he's in the legislative assembly, he remains a power center as far as Karnataka is concerned. The smooth transition to the extent of D.K.
Shivakumar becoming the next chief minister will be achieved, but a smooth power and functioning will only happen if Siddaramaiah recedes into the sunset as far as politics is concerned in the state because in the state legislature, when the chief minister is the leader of the house, if it's D.K. Shivakumar entering the house, imagine a situation where there's also Siddaramaiah in that house. So, there will be two power centers, and that causes friction. So, for an entirely smooth transition, we'll have to wait and watch, but for the moment, over the next 48 hours, in terms of Siddaramaiah stepping down and allowing way for D.K. Shivakumar, I think that will be a smooth smooth process, and that's a huge feat as far as the Congress high command to have been able to achieve that. You don't have power transitions of this nature that can be effected in Karnataka. Even the BJP struggled when they had to let Yeddyurappa go and allow for a transition of power. So, allowing for this kind of power transition in the manner in which it's happened over the next 48 hours is a huge feat to have been achieved. But then, how it's going to play out in the next few days.
Siddaramaiah resigns but is he willing to retire from state politics? I think answer is no. So, there will be power tussles, there will be challenges as we go along in Karnataka.
>> Stay with me. I'm going to come back to you to talk more about
