Large-scale urban infrastructure expansion projects, such as the Accra-Tema Motorway widening from 4 to 10 lanes, require sophisticated engineering solutions including massive T-beam construction (140 tons each, 40 meters long), specialized heavy lifting equipment for safe installation over live traffic, and careful coordination between construction teams and traffic management to minimize disruption while meeting growing transportation demands.

First Concrete Section Completed at Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Expansion本站添加:
[music] [music] [music] >> So, like I promised earlier, I'll continue bringing you all the latest update on the ongoing Accra-Tema Motorway expansion project.
Today, we are back once again at the Tema Motorway Interchange, where major progress is clearly visible compared to our previous visit.
During the last update, contractors had just begun installing the massive T-beams for the new flyover being constructed alongside the existing bridge.
At the time, traffic diversions towards Spintex [music] and Madina caused serious congestion as engineers worked around the clock to lift and position the enormous concrete beams safely above live traffic.
Fast forward to today, and the transformation is becoming even more exciting to witness.
Hello, my wonderful viewers. Welcome back to Exploit Man.
If you are new here, this channel >> [music] >> is all about documenting Ghana's growth, lifestyle, infrastructure, and real-life experiences on the ground.
No filters, just reality.
We go the length and breadth of this country to bring you all the amazing content you need.

Contractors are now almost done with the expansion lane heading towards Lapaz and Kasoa.
As we zoom down the drone footage, you can clearly see visible movement of engineers and contractors putting out the finishing touches.
The beams on this section have successfully been laid and casted with concrete giving commuters the first real glimpse of what the completed expansion could eventually look like.
Although some exposed iron rods are still visible, it is obvious that another finishing layer of concrete, waterproofing, and eventually asphalt surfacing will fully complete the structure before the final road works begins.
Seeing the first fully casted section of the bridge is honestly refreshing because it confirms that steady progress is being made.
This is the kind of infrastructure development many people love to see happening in Ghana.
Interestingly, work has now shifted to the opposite side of the interchange heading towards Tema.
Engineers and contractors have started preparing the next section where additional beams will be laid and casted just like the first section.
On one end, welders are busy reinforcing steel foundations where the new beams will lay rest.
While on the other side, engineers and site supervisors can be seen discussing and coordinating the next stages of construction to ensure precision and safety.
>> [music] >> One thing I personally noticed during this visit is that the new [music] expansion lanes appear slightly elevated compared to the old existing bridge.
It raises an interesting engineering question about how both structures will eventually merge seamlessly since this is technically an expansion of the original interchange.
I don't know whether the old one will be pulled down and a new one will be constructed to to level up with the new one or it will be there will be some renovation works to let it match up with the new one so [music] that they all be a par.
Well, we can only wait and see.
Most likely additional leveling works, asphalt surfacing, and transition layers will eventually align both structures smoothly for motorists.
Now, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange remains one of the busiest transport hubs in Accra.
It connects the N1 Highway, Kaneshie Odorkor Road, Winneba Road, and several key routes leading towards Tema, Madina, Legon, Lapaz, and Kasoa.
Because of this strategic importance, the expansion project is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve traffic movement across the city once [music] completed. This is a good one.
The overall motorway expansion >> [music] >> aims to increase the corridor from four lanes to 10 lanes. This is amazing.
By introducing additional N1 lanes alongside dedicated express lanes.
This long-term upgrade is designed to meet the increasing traffic demands caused by Accra's rapidly growing population and rising number of vehicles on the roads every year.
As mentioned during the previous update, are absolutely massive.
Each beam weighs approximately 140 tons and stretches close to 40 m in length.
The fact that these beams are cast right here on site tells you just how large and technically demanding this entire operation truly is.
What makes this project even more impressive is the ability of contractors to carry out construction while traffic continues flowing underneath.
Initially, authorities attempted partial road diversions, but the resulting gridlock became unbearable for commuters.
Engineers then adjusted their strategy by introducing specialized heavy lifting equipment capable of installing beams safely while vehicles [music] continue moving below, like you are seeing right here.
Safety also remains a major priority throughout the project.
With heavy machinery operating directly above moving traffic, contractors have implemented strict safety protocols to protect both workers and commuters.
Workers can be seen wearing full protective gear while traffic management teams carefully [music] coordinate operations around the construction zone.
Beyond easing traffic, projects like these also contribute to the modernization and beautification of Accra.
The scale of engineering and expansion of the motorway and the construction of more interchanges are reflect a city rapidly [music] transforming its infrastructure to meet future demands.
The project is eventually creating employment opportunities for engineers, machine operators, welders, laborers, transport operators, suppliers, and many others whose livelihoods are connected to this massive development.
[music] Once completed, this upgraded interchange will seamlessly connect into the larger Tema Motorway [music] expansion, stretching from this point towards Community 18 and beyond, helping create smoother travel between Accra and Tema, while improving connectivity across the capital.
The ongoing works here at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange continue to showcase impressive engineering and steady progress.
And honestly, seeing the first completed concrete section now taking shape gives a real sense that this vision is gradually becoming a reality.
Let's take a moment to enjoy these beautiful aerial views of the Tetteh Quarshie area and the ongoing expansion works.

What do you think about this expansion project?
And how do you think it will transform movement across Accra when fully completed?
Until next time, keep exploring with Explorit Man.
Peace.
