Matt’s mechanical grit is a humbling reality check for the intellectual class who understand the world through screens but cannot navigate its physical complexities. This is what actual problem-solving looks like when theory meets the stubborn reality of old iron.

BACK ON THE ROAD! $12,000 Auction Mack Hauls Again! (CAT 977 Comes Home)追加:
What's up everybody and welcome back to Diesel Creek. My name is Matt. Today, well, I've got a lot of running around to do. As you guys may have picked up on by now, I've been dropping a few contacts clues, but we've got a very big uh uplifting project coming to the channel here shortly and I've been trying to make room in the back lot for a delivery of some goods. I have made quite a bit of space back here, but you could always be doing better and there is a dozer been sitting over there next to the shop taking up room for a while now. Do you guys remember this little beauty queen here? This is a 1959 I think if my memory serves. 1959 Allis-Chalmers HD 11B bulldozer, of course.
I played around there in the fall and got this thing running because a buddy of mine wanted to buy it and he did, so it's been sitting here just waiting on me to take it up to his place. So, I'm going to try to do that today. It hasn't been running since the fall whenever we did the video on it, so we're going to try to get it started back up today and uh get it loaded on the lowboy and uh we're going to take it up to his place.
At least that's the plan.
Let's see if it starts.
Well, to haul that bad mamajama up there to buddy's place, we're going to use the old Mack CL700.
You guys haven't seen this thing on the road for a while because I'm bad at paperwork.
Yeah. Yep.
I let the plates expire and uh I had to do a bunch of paperwork to get uh apportioned plate set up, which basically means that I can take this truck out of state now or pretty much anywhere in the country. I think I could even head up into Canada or Mexico if I wanted to, but probably I want to.
Anyways, this thing hasn't been running in a couple weeks.
See if she's going to go.
I do like this truck.
It's not as cool as the Autocar, but it's a cool truck.
But we're going to let the old bulldog keep building air. I'm going to go try to get that dozer running.
Well, if you remember working on this thing, you'll remember that there is no battery leads going up to the battery boxes. Somebody robbed them off of here, I guess.
So, we just got to get the jump pack, hook it straight on the starter there.
And uh yeah, hopefully this thing cranks up.
I don't remember for sure, but I think it's a 24-V starter.
We shall know here momentarily.
Can I get a contact?
Oh, yeah.
Another thing I just remembered about this machine is that it has a some sort of a fuel leak that lets air back into the closed fuel system.
So, we're going to have to crank it for a little while. It'll purge out the air and probably need a little tickle of ether at least to help get it started.
And then it took like 20-30 seconds of running to really clear all the air out of the system and let it smooth out. But this thing actually did run pretty good once you get all the air out of the system.
All right, let's see if she's going to fire.
No All right, it's a pretty nice little machine, but it's not without its quirks. There's two things that are wrong with this thing still.
Got to make it a little tougher to get on the trailer. One is it has a really bad blown out idler. The front idler on this side is just gone though. You can stick your fingers down inside the bore, the bearing's completely gone out of it. So, we're going to have to be careful we don't knock the track off. I did that trying to get it down here to the shop um from purgatory in the last video on this thing and it was a it was a pain in the butt to get the track back on.
The other issue is it only goes in reverse. I can't make it go forward.
There's like an inner lock in the transmission that's stuck and I never played around with it enough to fix it. So, that's one of the things that Buddy's going to do once I get it up to his place. Um so, I'm going to back up past the trailer and then we're going to shove it on with another machine and then when I get to his place, I'll be able to reverse it off the trailer and up to where he wants it parked.
>> Uh-oh.
Well, we killed it. That didn't take very long. I'll bet you I know what happened, though. This thing was dripping fuel from that fuel line.
And I had the fuel line shut off, and I think I forgot to turn it back on.
That'll do it.
There we go. Gravity bleeding from the tank right now, I think.
Well, I thought we might be able to avoid it, but I think I'm going to crack some injector lines loose here.
It didn't exactly make it super easy to get your wrench on these injectors here, so I'm going to open up the ones that are easiest to get to. The way they have the return lines routed really limits your ability to get a wrench on them.
See if I got anything coming out of those two that I opened up there.
Yeah, they got some fuel going.
All right, I bled out two and there was a lot of air that came out of those, so I'm going to be honest, I'm not super clear. There's a certain style of injection pump, I think, from what I've been told here. Certain style of injection pump where you really only need to bleed out like the furthest one from the pump to get the enough air out of it that the rest of them will kind of self-bleed. And that all could be crap, too. Honestly, I I don't know about the magic that goes on inside of the injection pumps, that's why I have Area Diesel Service. Even if you get it to fire on a couple cylinders, that'll usually let it chug along enough to where you can get the air to purge out of the other cylinders.
>> [clears throat] >> Well, we got it back here by the low boy and I think I got it lined up decent But, like I said, can't go in forward, so we're going to have to push or pull it on to the low boy.
>> All right. Well, we got her all lifted up, chained down. We're ready to hit the road.

>> Well, we made it to our destination here.
Good old Kim acting as the pilot car driver today.
Oh, no, we got to hook it right down here with starters cuz not only are there not batteries, there's not even leads for the batteries.
Are you ready, Kim?
Aye, aye, captain.
>> Made it.
I was nervous coming up that drive, man.
It's probably a lot steeper than it looks on camera.
Not a good place to throw a track.
So, that's where this old girl's story is going to end. If you take a peek around, though, back by the hay barn there, a little teeny orange dot up there is the Clark 175 or 125, I think it was 175, wheel loader that we had a few years back. We traded it for the Lorraine cable hoe that was sitting right here.
And there's still some other goodies up here I got to grab.
This is a shovel bucket that came off came off of a big Lorraine model. I think it was an 80 820, like our buddy Sam has.
Uh I actually grew up playing on this shovel. It was out in a strip mine.
I used to go ride quads at, so kind of funny that it ended up here. But, unfortunately, got cut up by scrappers.
But, they still have the bucket.
And now the bucket's mine.
Way more than All right.
Let's get out of here.
>> Well, it's a few days later.
And we have more trucking to do.
It was dark last night when we loaded up the Ingersoll roller, got it all chained down.
Going to take this up to my buddy Brad's place. He's building a little building pad and needs something to really pack it down. And we're going to trade this thing off for Greta, the Cat 977K model that has been living at his house for probably over 3 years now. We're finally going to bring it back home. It's actually never even been here to the farm.
All righty. All ready to rock.
>> All right, I'll see you guys up at Brent's.
Well, we're very close to our destination.
And there's no way I can pull headlong into where I need to be. So, I got to go up and try to back into this little road here. Going to be tight.
It's a tight squeeze.
Road's not quite 90°. I'm going to go turn around and hit it the other direction. That should give me better swingability into this thing.
That is my hope at least.
It's been so long ago, I don't remember how we got the 977 in there.
It's my suspicion that the truck that delivered that had a shorter trailer and shorter wheelbase, if I remember correctly.
That's been a lot of lowboy rides ago since that happened.
>> Man, that was tight.
I'm using every inch of her.
Well, that was tight.
Camera died right in the middle of the intersection, but we finally got her in here.
Had to back about a half mile down the road.
We're finally to Brad's place.
Get this bad mama jama unchained and go see if Greta is going to start.
All right, Bradley.
You can't keep this machine for 3 years now.
We're going to We're going to need this one back.
We had to fight with the lock on the neck there.
I think it's just a lack of lubrication.
Everything needs a little little love in the neck, but >> [laughter] >> see if this thing can fire up today.
Sometimes the starter gives fits.
Oh, yeah.
>> Slow ride.
Oh, Brad deprived you guys of the cold start. He had it all warmed up and ready to go.
It's been a while since I've seen her.
Let's get it loaded up.
>> So there she is all loaded down, chained up.
We're ready to hit the road.
But first, we're going to go take a look at what Brad did with this thing for 3 years.
Here we go. I don't know if we have any flashback footage to throw in here, but from that big tree over there, all the way across here was nothing but woods.
And Brad's been using Greta on this hillside, cleaning this thing off for hay burners.
But, it's all turned into field nicely. He's done with it now. They're done as much as they're going to do, and that's why I get to take it home finally.
The one-man band marches on. That's right.
Looks good.
This area right here, he's trying to build another little garage, and that's what he needs the compactor for. He started doing a little cut and fill action here and realized that it was getting to be enough fill to where he better have a real compactor if he wants to build on it. So, dropped off the roller. He's going to get that done here in the next few weeks.
We'll come get our roller back.
>> Well, we made it back. It's dinner time.
I'm going to go eat some dinner and then we'll come back and unload that thing and park it somewhere, I guess. I have an undercarriage I would like to throw on that thing. Well, I have a set of tracks, not an entire undercarriage.
These ones are pretty well spent.
That's another reason Brad kind of got sick of fooling with it is cuz it throws tracks if you're not careful.
You have to be pretty darn careful what you're doing and run them too tight ultimately.
>> [snorts] >> Sprockets are worn pointy, not horrible, but the rail height is really what the problem is here.
See that rail is worn down and all this is rolled over.
Not good.
It's doing a number on the idler, which is still runnable, but not fantastic. I really don't know how good or bad the bottom rollers are. Clearly that one's leaking.
I think that one back there is as well.
Hopefully I'll just be able to put a set of sprocket segments on it and the set of chains that I have and this thing will be good enough to run it for what I use it for. Then again, I guess I've never used it for anything other than the first barn demo job I used it on.
Uh I don't know if I'll use it for anything. If nothing else, it'll go to the steam show and be something fun for us to play with up there.
>> Woo!
>> Well, the trailer's connected and we are done for the weekend.
Anyways, if you made it to this point in the video, I want to thank you guys for following along.
