You can be born more vulnerable to trauma — and here is what that means biologically.Added:
Did you know that you can be born being vulnerable to trauma?
Seems unfair, doesn't it? Perhaps it is.
But this is a key concept that I would want you to know.
Because as you then go to heal [snorts] that trauma that you've experienced, you're going to want to know what are your vulnerabilities so that you can repair those.
If we have ongoing vulnerabilities, they will continue to be susceptibilities.
And anytime that we experience stress, we are stress testing those susceptibilities, and they just won't stand the test of time. They won't stand the test of stress.
And so trying to live life with these vulnerabilities, with these susceptibilities, is going to make you experience more overwhelm.
Your body and biology will reach that critical line that no longer is just stress, it is now the trauma response.
It's what eventually creates disease in our bodies. It's what creates physical health issues, sleep issues.
And so we don't want to be spending a lot of time in this trauma physiology, but that's exactly where we are headed if we have these ongoing vulnerabilities and susceptibilities.
So what I've done is I've laid it out in chapter 11. Chapter 11 goes into vulnerability for trauma, early life and pre-existing filters. The idea that we have a pre-existing state.
Including a pre-existing filter. And that, my friend, that pre-existing state, your biology, the lens through which you see the world and others and yourself, that is actually the most powerful influence on whether you are going to experience this event in your life as just a stress or as a trauma.
