I Actually Reinvented the Wheel (4 Wheeler)Added:
The wheel. Maybe you've heard of it.
Well, I reinvented the wheel three times for my four-wheeler to see if any of them are better than regular wheels on different kinds of terrain. So, for my first reinvention of the wheel, I decided that the circle was way too outdated. So, I wanted to make some crazy spiky wheels. So, I designed and traced out this spiky design and then cut that shape out of some wood. And honestly, they looked super cool. Like genuinely one of the coolest things I had ever put on a vehicle. So, I painted them up, installed them, and got ready to test.
Honestly, that worked pretty well. Dang.
And look at the the tracks.
Just like [music] an inch deep cuttings to the ground.
These wheels were so fun. It felt like riding a mechanical bull. You just have to hold on for dear life, but that's what made it fun. Now, for each of the three types of wheels, I'm going to be ranking them based on two things. How cool they look and how well they actually work. So, for now, the spiky wheels were ranked number one. But, for my next reinvention of the wheel, I wanted to bring back one of my longboard wheels that I had made in a previous video, the triangle wheel. But, of course, I need to make them way bigger so they would fit on my four-wheeler.
The idea is that if you take a triangle and twist it 120° then from the side, there's always a corner touching the ground, which means in theory, it should roll just like a normal wheel. But, obviously, doing this at a mini longboard scale with a 3D printer is a little different than doing it at four-wheeler scale. But, then I decided I just use the same concept that a 3D printer uses by building it layer by layer. But, instead of plastic, I would cut out sheets of wood to make the layers. So, I cut out a ton of triangle layers from these big wood sheets. And I mean a ton.
Look at how crazy this looks. I stacked [music] up all of the wheels. It's almost 100 pieces, I think. And it looks like a crazy staircase or something.
Isn't that awesome? But, after three full days, I was finally able to stack and layer them together, rotating each one slightly to create that twisted triangle shape. And I actually think they turned out super cool. I was super excited to see if they would have any advantage riding through the sand. But, the only way to find out was to test it.
So, I installed the triangle wheels on my four-wheeler named Ben.
That's his name. I just decided that's his name. Everybody say hi to Ben in the comments. Anyway, it was time to test.
All right. Here we go.
It is bumpy. I did not center these well.
It feels cool, though.
They're working great. Yeah.
They're heavy.

Okay, so the wheels did break pretty fast, but I still wanted to test them on the sand. So, I just reinstalled the unbroken ones to test. We're just going to test the front wheels in the sand.
Now we're at the sand dunes.
Oh, what?
Oh, it's so hard to ride in the sand.
Let's go.
They actually worked way better in the sand. I did not think they would actually work that well. They worked incredibly That did Oh, oh. But, then I remembered that my four-wheeler was rear-wheel drive. So, to really test if they had an advantage, I had to install them on the back. But, I didn't want them to break.
So, this time I added these custom metal plates to keep them from falling off, but they didn't stand a chance.
It destroyed my feet. Oh Oh my gosh, yeah. Anyway, they actually did roll up first, which was awesome.
And they did seem to cut through the sand to give them a better grip. But, it was hard to tell for sure since they ended up breaking. But, I ended up ranking them at number one anyway because of how cool they looked. But, for my last set of wheels, I wanted to make them square. Now, obviously, square wheels wouldn't work very well, but I actually made square wheels for my longboard by morphing a square into a circle in the center and then back into a square on the other side. So, that from some angles, they look completely like a cube, but from the side, they're a circle, so they roll. The concept is super cool, but I wanted to scale that up by like a thousand so I could put them on my four-wheeler. So, here's how I built each one. I started with a square piece of wood, then spaced it out with some 2x6s, added a circle in the middle, then more 2x6 spacers, and then added another square on the other side.
My plan was to fill the inside with spray foam and shape it so that it had the same smooth curve that connects the squares into the circle and gives it that illusion, just like the 3D printed version. But, the foam really wasn't cooperating. So, instead, we just layered duct tape all around the outside to give it a similar round effect. And honestly, it looked pretty good. For example, from this angle, it looks kind of like a cube, but then when you look at it from the side, you can see that it should still roll just like a regular circle. So, I installed them on my longboard and got ready to test. These things are huge.
>> [laughter] >> Um I think it'd be actually so funny if I was able to ride my longboard like this. Unfortunately, that will not work at all.

So, anyway, I installed them on my four-wheeler to actually test them.
Oh, yeah. I didn't think about that.

What? It's actually working.
They're working.
No way.
No way.
These square wheels are working.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
They absolutely worked and looked super cool while doing it. But, I just don't know if they looked as cool as the triangle wheels, and they didn't really have any kind of advantage, but they did work much better than the spiky wheels.
