Woo + Achiever Can Create Endless Momentum

[00:00:03]being on the cruise this summer and meeting all these people. My sister was mad at me. Yeah. She wasn't spending enough time with me. But as Albert said, it's very like emotionally taxing because it's a load. Like for me and I see this at work. For me, I have so many students coming in. It's hard for me to get work done.

[00:00:21]Yeah.

[00:00:22]>> And I have to literally and this doesn't make me feel good at all, but I have to keep my door closed or else I do not get work done.

[00:00:29]Like I will just have student after colleague after student after colleague which is so exciting cuz I love my students and I love my colleagues, but I have to like I have to be very intentional about the boundaries.

[00:00:41]Because if not, I'll have students come and just like Albert was saying, they'll share really deep things with me. Really deep things with me and I'm honored that they do. But at the same time, I'm like holy crap, I have a deadline.

[00:00:55]>> [laughter] >> I'm going up for early tenure and there are all these things do and doing a full teaching load and then I'm president of a nonprofit right now and so I feel like sometimes the shadow sides of this isn't necessarily any criticism I get, but just the busyness it adds to my life. There's There feels like less time for myself. Um and that's how I've seen for me the shadow sides of this.

[00:01:18]Not what Gallup has listed, but there have been some real consequences. I think the biggest one for me was like my sister getting mad at me. Really wanted to spend time with you and you were out and talking everyone and then I didn't even see you and so I really hurt her feelings and that that made me feel very bad.

[00:01:36]Couple of things. One, I'm curious to what your sister's strengths are cuz if she happens to have relator, let's say in her top five, which is I'm down with my closest family, my sister, my and then you're woo. Like those can clash, particularly if you're on a cruise. And boundaries, I think boundaries is a conversation to talk about with all 34 of these strengths. I think Woo in particular is one, empathy we could talk about all achiever and actually I wanted to mention your achiever with your Woo has you probably do more Woo than the average person, right? Has you do more than everything of the average person, right? So like those combined and you get energy from it. It's like a positive feedback loop, but you still have to have boundaries particularly if you have family and other other commitments if you will, whether that be your family on a cruise or your research in a in your job. That's why we need coaching and colleagues that can understand our strengths and then and see our shadow sides coming up maybe before sometimes we can to give us a hey, "Why don't you go over here in in the quiet room and work while I talk to the student?" Or whatever it is. But we need help with we need help with that. All of us do. That's why I'm thankful to have a community of people who understand the strengths and we can help each other.
