Inflammation, liver enzymes, and finding fatty liver

[00:00:00]Unfortunately, when somebody suffers from fatty liver, this often causes inflammation of the liver, and this can show up as elevated liver enzymes on a routine blood draw.

[00:00:12]The most important of those liver enzymes being AST and ALT.

[00:00:17]So, if you were to check the blood of a patient and their liver enzymes are elevated, you might order some abdominal imaging such as an ultrasound to investigate why there's inflammation in their liver, and that will often lead you to a diagnosis of fatty liver from that ultrasound.
