A cruise director at Costa Cruise Lines, who worked for 18 years with 51 separate contracts, successfully sued for his job back and won a €130,000 settlement, with the court ruling that such frequent contract renewals constitute abuse of the contract system and that he should have been made a permanent employee; this landmark ruling could fundamentally change how cruise lines structure employment contracts across the industry.

THIS COULD CHANGE THE WAY CRUISE LINES HIRE CREW FOREVERAdded:
Hi everybody, it's Don and I hope you're having a fantastic day. Well, Disney's brand new ship. That's right, it just launched and it already has propulsion issues. Also, we have a cruise director who just wanted their job back and ended up not only getting their job back, but winning a landfall settlement in court that could change the way contracts for crew members are worked right across the industry. Plus, we have an update now on how the United States is planning to get the people from Spain who would on the ship with the virus back to the United States and what happens to those passengers once they get back into the United States.
Have you ever noticed you'll be go online and you'll search up, oh, uh, you know, it's springtime, maybe I need a new barbecue, and you'll search barbecue. Then the next time you log into your computer, all of a sudden everything is advertising barbecues or you log into YouTube and suddenly there's barbecue recipes going on.
That's because every time you log into your computer and search anything, there's data brokers out there collecting that information. They're collecting your personal address.
They're collecting any financial information. They're collecting your likes and your dislikes. And they're collecting it all. and then selling it.
They're selling it to advertisers who are trying to focus on you. Hey, he likes barbecues. Let's send him all this barbecue stuff as much as we can possibly can and maybe he'll buy it from us. That's what data brokers are doing.
The trouble is data brokers are also sometimes selling it to people who don't want to just sell you things. They want to steal your personal information. They want to find out your credit card numbers. They want to find out your social security numbers. They want to find out how much money you make, any bank accounts you have. They want to do nefarious things to your account. Some people have had loans taken out in their name. They never had any idea. One person had a car they bought, never found out until 6 months later when a collection agency showed up and saying, "Hey, you haven't been paying your car loan." They didn't buy a car. And that's one of the reasons you want to get off these mailing lists. Now, by law, you have to get off those mailing lists. If you ask them to, but I don't know how to do it. You probably don't know how to do it. You know who does know how to do it?
Incogn. Incogn.
They'll do the work for you. They will contact these data brokers. They know who to contact and they will get you off those lists. And if they try and put you back on like 3 weeks later, don't worry.
Incognues to monitor everything and will resubmit and get you off those lists.
And if they say no, they will fight that fight for you. You want to get off of all of these lists so you're not getting bombarded with spam emails and more so you don't want your personal information stolen out there by anybody else. Incogn also comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. So, if you'd like to give Incogn try, why not follow my link down below or the QR code up here and get up to 60% off by using my code family. I'm certainly glad I'm off of those mailing lists. I'm sure you will, too. So, we have the Disney Adventure and it holds about 6,700 passengers and people got on the ship.
They're doing three and four night cruises basically to nowhere. just sailing out into the water and coming back. They're allowed to do that in some countries like Singapore. And so this is the plan. People got on the ship in the morning and uh they noticed that uh the ship really wasn't going anywhere. And later on in the afternoon, the the captain announced and they sent out a you know flyers to everybody, emails to everybody saying that unfortunately the cruise was cancelled that afternoon and that they are you know please make your way to your stateateroom and make sure you put the new luggage tags that we are delivering to your stateateroom to get you off the ship if you're not planning to take your own luggage. Now imagine if you just got on the ship, you just unpacked and put all your stuff away, especially if you had kids and now you got to repack and you're leaving and your cruise is cancelled. Now Disney is offering 100% refund, 50% future cruise credit. They are providing a free night hotel, their, you know, complimentary hotel for people who need it. Also, they are providing up to $500 US per stateroom for change of flights and expenses, etc. along those lines. But yeah, that's not a real good sign. Your brand new ship that's only been in service a few month, like a little while, already has propulsion issues.
Not a real good sign there. Next, let's talk about a cruise director with Costa Cruise Lines, which is an Italianowned cruise line, right? That's what they're known for. They're well they're flagged in Italy and he was working for this company for 18 years and had 51 separate contracts and suddenly they didn't renew his contract.
No word on why or anything like that, but he was upset. Uh they, you know, obviously and he went to the labor board in Italy and said, "Hey, this isn't fair. Um, you know, they're not giving me any real reason. I want my job back." And a judge decided, you know what?
Not only should he get his job back because he's been with the company so long, 18 years of seniority in the company plus 51 separate contracts. He also ruled that you know what these contracts are basically illegal saying that because of the length of service and the amount of contracts you know 51 over 18 years averages over three contracts a year that they were abusing the contract system that this person should have been made a permanent employee.
Ooh, that could change the way contracts are worded for a lot of people out there now and right across the industry is this is now a court ruling filed, right?
A judge decision. Now, the cruise line could fight this. The cruise line could go against this. The other cruise lines could say, "Well, we'll see what happens with our employees." Uh, or they could say, "You know what? after a certain amount of time, we're not going to rehire that person, we're going to let them stay home for a little while and then we'll offer them a job another year from now. That way there's no length of service, continuous length of service, so they're not deemed permanent. Who knows what they're going to work on, but that could change the whole industry.
And by the way, he was also offered £130,000, no pounds, euros, as a compensation as well. Plus, he got his job back. So, I guess sometimes it pays to fight being laid off. So, good for them. That's a pretty good windfall when you think of how much these cruise directors make over the course of a year. It's nowhere near £130,000.
I guarantee or euros. Why do I keep saying pounds? euros. I guarantee you that. And finally, let's talk about how the US is going to get the 18 Americans that are stranded on that cruise ship with the virus when it gets to Spain.
They are chartering a Air Force medical quarantine flight and they will fly them back to Omaha, Nebraska where at that point they will be sent to a quarantine facility set up at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.
That's right, at the university with all the students, thousands of students. But apparently they have a facility there.
It's going to be a quarantine facility and they will monitor them and keep them there until it's deemed that they are no longer an endangerment to anybody else across the country. Good news for everybody there is they're not going to be just letting people go back to their states and then monitoring them in their homes and then we instead of having six states out there monitoring people now suddenly we have 15 states have to monitor people and who they got in contact with etc. They're take taking no chances. They're going to isolate them at the university. And uh uh I kind of wish it was summer, right?
I wish it was summer where there was no school. Maybe we're close enough, right?
May I'm not sure of the American system for universities, but uh yeah, that's how they're going to handle it. They're not going to send them back to their individual states. They're going to quarantine them when they get back. and they're chartering a medical, you know, a a plane purposely built and quarantined like they did for CO to repatriate people back to the United States. Now, let me know in the comments down below. What do you think? Do you think, hey, after 18 years, that person should have been made a permanent employee, or do you think, hey, no, he could have just turned the contract down. It was up to him to keep doing those contracts. And hey, maybe the cruise line thought he was too old or he just was taking the job for granted and they just decided not to reimburse him. But apparently the courts and one judge in particular said, "Uh, yeah, that's not the way those contracts are supposed to work." Well, I hope you appreciate this video.
