Off-grid solar systems require careful power management to prevent overload, as demonstrated when the hosts' 4,000-watt system became overloaded while running multiple appliances including lights, fans, and a hot water heater simultaneously. This highlights the importance of understanding power consumption limits and strategic device management in off-grid living.

Pt. 2 🔥 OUR OFF GRID SOLAR SYSTEM GOT OVERLOADED 😳⚡️ + Birthday Chaos, Roach Drama & New Cats?!Added:
for like one night on those six D batteries. So, um I'm also excited because I found this on the Amazon lol.
I do not have a link to my >> these lol these battery power or uh we can charge them in the car.
>> So, um we have two uh things up here that you can see. So, um, eventually I'm going to get another one of those like, well, not I'm we are going to get another one of those car ports and then I think there's also one in the back.
So, just what we do is like sometimes we'll sit and just let the battery run honestly and let the car charge and stuff. But for the majority, for the most part, the most economical and frugal thing that we do is when we're riding around, we just maximize >> the car being running already and make sure. So, it's like if we get that one filled up and then that one filled up, we'll be able to charge stuff like this when we need to. But also with our new 4,000 watts, we should be able to um pepper in some necessities. Yeah, these batteries are supposed to be great because or these fans are supposed to be great because um the batteries now they claim on the web on Amazon that it would last a one charge could last up to 5 days, but y'all know I'mma let y'all know the real down the dirty. I don't know if it's going to last five days >> high power >> four, but we'll see for all for like we we typically sleep about eight hours.
But you can you can hear >> the wind. So that's awesome. And it's like, oh, hey, welcome back boss dog.
>> And then it's got a little >> welcome back rich baby daddy gang.
>> Light on it.
>> Thank you. I think it'll be nice up there, too.
>> Yeah.
>> So, all of these things are supposed to run for 5 days.
>> Yeah. I don't necessarily believe that, but anything else having to buy >> batteries because right now they're running our lights and they're running the fan and they run the um hot water heater, too.
>> Yeah, they do.
>> We've had a lot of D-sized batteries in our lives.
>> A lot of D-sized batteries. And it'd be great because it's like $50. And those are on my Amazon storefront link in bio if you want to uh purchase some D batteries.
Um, but because it's like $25 a box. Um, welcome back everyone. Yes, if you don't know, we the happiest black women, you know, because we're lesbians who chose freedom by building an off-grid life in Hawaii.
So, hit that like button. Hit that.
>> Our eightmon offrid update.
>> Eight month offrid update.
We finally get some solar power. Hit that like button. Hit that thumbs up.
Hit that subscribe.
Um, so yeah. Um, so now it's like it's and it's like even though we are going to get more power, um, Rya, we don't have one. Um, but if you don't know, we're the happiest black women, you know, because we're lesbians who chose freedom by building an off-grid life in Hawaii.
>> Raza, who top and who bottom? Don't ban me. Lol.
>> I don't know what you mean by that.
>> I know, right? Um, so basically with our new power, it's like we're still going to have to optimize it. So it's amazing to even find these B uh these fans because it's like while we can run all of our power to run one huge fan, we could just uh be charging >> a bunch of these fans, you know, the battery power fans. You got to be strategic.
>> These are 26 bucks. So I was like, if they last like they're supposed to realistically, we could buy like two more.
>> Yeah. and be switching switching them out.
>> Absolutely.
>> When necessary. And the fans are really for like the night time. I mean, okay, the truth truth is it would be nice to run a fan 24 hours here. I'll tell you why. The cabin needs air moving constantly and it does a pretty good job, but it could just do it way better because it is open air. So, theoretically, there is always air moving. There are sometimes here in Hawaii where there is absolutely no trade wind.
>> It is just still and when it's still like that, it's usually very very humid, very damp >> and mold loves it.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it just helps predator preserve everything in the open air cabin when air is moving through it and it like I said, it typically is doing really well.
But those moments where or those nights sometimes I feel like especially like right before a big storm or a goodsized rain, it's just like that quiet stillness and it's nice honestly, but it doesn't feel good when you're sleeping in the bed when you know both of us are there cuddling. It's hot and sweating.
Doesn't feel good.
>> Yeah.
>> So that's why we have the fans um to help move the air, create circulation to help reduce mold.
>> Yes.
So yeah. So, we're so excited. Shout out to the Wild community for supporting us through this journey.
>> It's a big deal, y'all, because when we first got out here, I mean, y'all can I feel like on some of those streams, you can kind of see our desperation. And what it really was is we just had so little figured out, you know, and I feel like having so little figured out >> and we planned a good bit. Like I won't even say like it's like while we decided kind of on a whim like after we made the decision we pivoted and focused all time all research to planning for this. So planned as well as we possibly could.
She is pretty easy.
>> Go ahead and give that thumbs up.
>> Oh my gosh. We're the happiest black women you know because we're lesbians who chose freedom by building an off life in Hawaii. Hit that thumbs up thumbs up button that subscribe you guys.
and we're giving our eightmonth off-grid update.
>> Eight month offrid update. So, yeah, we definitely knew, you know, that we needed to figure things out, but some stuff you can't really plan for until you get here.
>> Yeah, you don't know. We had literally never been to Hawaii before. So, we had no idea what we were going to need, what was hard here versus what was easy here.
Oh, you're in Hawaii. Aloha. Aloha.
Ohana, what's up?
Shout out to the Hawaiians.
She's subtle.
>> We definitely um shout out to the Hawaiian. Shout out to Hawaii.
>> I see you, Ryrie Gaming. Oh, you're in on Honolulu. Okay, Aahu in the building.
>> Shout out to Aahu.
>> But um so it was like we knew we needed to upgrade solar as soon as we got here, but we didn't know how we was going to do that. just to be completely frank with you.
>> And it was intimidating. It's like >> very intimidating, >> you know, cuz you know, we're off-rid and not everyone does off-rid, you know.
Um, and but we found the right people have been coming to us, you guys. Thank God.
>> The right shout out to all of the people who've come to our homestead and um helped us on our house and all of that stuff.
>> Um, so shout out to them. Thanks for the likes, you guys. You're awesome.
>> Thanks for the likes. Thanks for the thumbs up. Somebody go ahead and thumbs up my video. Yeah, go ahead and give Black Lesbian Offgrid Jay a thumbs up.
>> A thumbs up.
Um, that's okay. Oh, hey Brian.
>> Hola, Brian.
>> Um, we we we have a Spanish speaker in the live, so feel free to say what you got to say in espanol.
>> In espanol, you say safe.
>> Good. Um but anyway, so >> bueno >> bueno.
>> It's bueno.
>> Yeah.
>> So yeah, we didn't know how we were going to upgrade the solar. So this is a huge huge thing.
>> Huge thing for us. We're so excited to be halfway there.
>> Halfway there. Um, I'm hoping we can just add on our new solar system separately but to our pre-existing solar system because I would love like right now that solar system is currently doing the shower >> and instead of dismantling that and like adding the shower to the new system, I honestly would rather leave that setup completely alone and then just build a cold new >> uh solar setup. Yeah.
>> Um like pretty much on top of it. So that's my desire or my wish. I don't know if our electrician is going to want to do that, but >> yeah. I mean, but he's our electrician.
We're paying for it. So >> yeah. So I'm going just tell >> I believe in just telling people what you want. Um >> that's the option for real.
>> Yeah.
>> So that leads us to our next update, which um as you guys know, we live in the cabin. Can you guys can somebody give me a thumbs up, y'all? Yeah, go ahead and get that thumbs up.
>> Did someone unth thumbs up the video?
>> Sometimes so ugly. But so our next thing is um I'm sure you guys have probably if you watch the live if you're hardcore wild and woke like I know some of you are.
>> Hey, shout out to the hardcore wild.
>> Hardcore wild and wokes. Um we our cabin is not cute. It's not cute. We we nicknamed it Ugly Brown.
>> Ugly Brown in the house search when we knew we would pick it. We had like names for all of the properties. You know how you watch those home shows? And we definitely called it ugly brown.
>> We called it ugly brown.
>> Even so much so that my sweet uh black lesbian offrid A was like I'll teach you English. My sweet black lesbian offrid A was like we can't get get ugly brown.
It's just too ugly. I know for sure cuz it had really good bones but the exterior was just not cute.
>> It's completely unesthetic, you know, and it's like it's so unesthetic. As someone who loves to create beauty, I don't even know how we can make it beautiful.
>> Yeah.
>> I really don't. I'll be your love if you give me a thumbs up. But >> yes, >> John, I'll be your love if you give me a thumbs up, John. And I'm not sure how to say your name, but if you want me to teach you English, hit that thumbs up button. And you got it. with that thumbs up.
>> So, um yeah, we know we know it's ugly.
Um and I think that knowing has been tough to carry this whole time >> because we are like, how are we going to fix it? How are we going to make it look better?
>> Yeah.
>> And it's hard to know what you're going to do when it looks the way it looks.
>> Yeah, for sure. I mean, we had some talks about like how, you know, paint when we thought all we would have to do was aesthetic stuff. We had some ideas like paint, >> save, put some windows in, seal, do the floor in the basement, seal everything in, but that takes money and those were cosmetic upgrades. And we had to surprise expenses just for functional upgrades.
>> We've had to be focused on like functioning. Like even like with the solar, it's like we didn't plan to upgrade our solar. No, >> our solar was not functioning. So, we needed to fix our solar >> and then you have to like weigh what the best options are and it's like with gas prices right now, lol. In the comments, let me know how what gas is where you are. Right now, where we are, gas is like 570.
>> Yeah.
>> So, um you know, a a generator, a gas powered generator just it's like it's a good option, but it's also not.
>> Y'all know we got this gas guzzling truck. So, >> exactly. We didn't need to be or we not need we didn't want to be buying more gas.
>> It's also not sustainable.
>> Not at all.
>> Um or compared to solar. Solar is much cleaner.
>> Everything's much more um affordable compared to solar because the truth is too and I think >> Hey about it. What's up Tom? I thought about tying into the grid. Oh th >> Don.
>> Oh hey Don. I thought about tying into the grid but the the financial breakdown is as follows. tying into the grid is $3,000 plus your monthly fees on how much power bill >> and then um >> Thank you. Equipment cost just $3,000 and then after that nothing's due except the labor. And if we were really dedicated, if it was and it wasn't so dangerous, we could probably figure out how to set up our solar ourselves and that would be the cost, right? The $3,000. But we do have to pay for labor. Yeah. 3500. $500.
>> Shout out to the GoFundMe link in bio.
>> You can help us with that if you want to.
>> Yes.
>> Um, so it doesn't make sense to me, long story short, to buy to tie into the grid at $3,000, but for $3,000 more dollars, you can just get somebody to install your solar y >> and never have to worry about a month-to-month bill again.
>> Exactly. And if we want to upgrade our solar power, we just increase panels and um batteries for storage. So >> it just it makes more sense that way, you know.
>> Absolutely.
>> Um >> so Oh, uh we were talking about improvements. Oh yeah. So there was a point that we thought the house was so ugly that we should just wash our hands of it and just immediately buy a new house.
um or like not like build a new house basically. So um we decided to go ahead and realize that we kind of got to make where we live work cuz that's our current home. Um, while we are saving for being able to uh build a brand new dream home, which you know may make sense to you guys or be obvious, but we had to go through that process on our own because it was like every dollar that we put towards our cabin versus our dream home. But we're living where we're living now, you know? So we we have to kind of make what we're living now work for us until we can and it's like cuz also where are we going to live when our dream home's going to be built?
>> So we just kind of had to get all that stuff together.
>> We got to maximize the structure. We got to maximize the cabin. So you know now the part of the journey going forward on top of everything else that we've talked about cuz nothing besides these things obviously that we're updating you have changed. We still want to be the homestead. We still wanted to be an operational farm and all that good stuff, >> but um like she said, we have to be comfortable as we prepare >> Yeah.
>> the land to become our dream land, our dream property.
>> Yeah. What are the three things? Food, water, and >> shelter. Yes.
>> So, we had to shelter. We made a long a lot of progress. Our our shelter was so nasty and full not like just full of other people's junk, you know. If you watch our earlier live streams, like we would literally wake up out of our cabin and come sit outside all day because we we could not stand being in that cabin.
And I think it took us months.
>> It took us months to finally clear out >> where we could actually clean that cabin, clear it and clean it.
>> Months, car loads of stuff like cuz we had to get like our we had so many other things to get together before we even got that the driver's license drama.
um all of that. We had so much to to do and figure out and it's also physically taxing to move someone's whole life out of their house so you can move in. Like >> it was it's like that was that was effed up. The owners before did us dirty on that cuz they lied >> and were like it's good junk and it's stuff that you know you guys might be able to use. It was a bunch of damn trash.
>> Yeah. Um, so and realistically they weren't going to move all that stuff either and that's why they did it.
>> They took everything they cared about and left everything else.
>> Oh, pink shirt. She is beautiful.
>> Thank you. We both have pink shirts though. Really?
>> Well, yours is a bit more pink than mine, but thanks Terry Joe.
>> Um, so yeah, we had we've come so far on the cabin. I think you know we need to make sure it's like is the cabin even secure? But once it survived some major storms.
>> Yeah. Shout out to that Kona low.
>> It hasn't leaked. The roof has does not leak on us.
>> Um so it's like >> it could be much worse.
>> Yeah. So we just got to um >> make some tightenings.
>> We just got to make some tightenings and, you know, make it more livable. We already did our shower floor. Shout out to our previous live where we did our shower.
>> Yes. Go see how we upgraded the shower.
>> That was amazing. The first time ever doing any kind of masonry brick work and came out. It I mean it's just a whole different vibe over there now.
>> Um >> it's nice to look at for for us. You know what I mean? Cuz seeing where we started from is like yikes, >> you know?
>> So there's that. The other update and it's like motiv motivation to make it even better. But also being realistic, it's like I know sometimes I have an identity crisis. Just being honest and being vulnerable with you guys. It's like damn, you know, the cabin is in rough shape. You know what I mean? And I feel like one of the most recent things that has been testing our patience is roaches. Okay.
>> Oh my gosh, >> y'all got it on the roaches. I'm from Atlanta, but I've spent so much time in Savannah growing up and there are a lot of roaches in Savannah because it's also a humid beach town. Yeah. Um, but I ain't seen this many roaches since I've been back at my grandma house in the early 2000s.
>> Yeah. It's a people and we knew there were like we did our YouTube University research and people you guys told us Hawaii had roaches. We thought it was like well if we don't keep food in the house if we you know if we keep our our door closed um but >> they get anywhere.
>> They get anywhere. And it's like mentioning the identity crisis because it could be it's like if you're not if you aren't careful it's like oh no it's because we're off- grid. It's because our house isn't good enough. It's because of these all these random things about why we have roaches when the reality is everybody in Hawaii got roaches.
>> Everybody. Everybody.
>> It's just especially I think at this time of year, it's like the tail end I think of um the rain season. And even though it's the tail end of rain season, I don't know how exactly how it works, but it's also going to move into hurricane season.
>> Mhm.
>> Um >> I I think it's generally always going to be on the rainier side. Um, so but continue.
>> Yeah. So, um, the roaches, the roaches get in, the roaches, um, are terrible.
>> Like, it's like there's nothing worse.
And I feel like I'm so grateful for the mosquito net because at least got to have mosquito net >> with the roaches. It's like they're crawling. It's one big one crawling on the mosquito net. You know, you get the spray, you do all the things. You know what I mean? But, um, they're there.
Okay. They're there. So, we had to like up our our defense system against the roaches. But, I will say I'm a little miffed because we bought the traps for big roaches and it's like I feel like we've had no big roaches, but the small roaches are it's like mediumsiz roaches now.
>> Oh, no way. Boo. You think the the >> compared to those other ones?
>> Yeah, they were smaller.
>> They're smaller.
>> But I thought they were talking about those >> I think they are for sure, but I did just notice that there's smaller one. I they look like ones probably from like they're they just look a little bit different, but >> they do look different. And I feel like maybe we potentially killed because we put out the bait. So maybe or the bait trap things where they take the bait, they eat what's in the trap and then they go back to their nest and then they it infects everybody in the roach nest.
>> Um maybe the nests that were coming full force have been wiped out and now that's why we're seeing a different kind. got bowling and they've been wiped out.
>> So hopefully I know, right? So yes, hopefully that's the case. So if you guys have any tips on how to uh keep roaches out of your cabin, um let us know. Leave a comment.
>> Let us know.
>> Yeah. Um >> other offgrid updates.
Um just that the battle on the roaches.
Also another thing that is like a constant purchase just to for you guys to know because we're updating is um our mosquito net. That's something that has to be replaced kind of often. Hopefully with the fans, now that we have a better fan system, we don't have to replace them as often because that's part of what I'm talking about when I'm like just more circulation would help because while it's open air, that means if the wind blows right while it's raining, >> thanks to the cabin and if it gets on when it gets on the mosquito net, thanks for the thumbs up. It starts to mold after a while and that kind of is just gross. So >> yeah, especially on my side because when it rains really hard and is windy, it blows water on the mosquito donut and that molds the fastest. So fortunately they're like $30, but it's a it's just not a lifetime purchase.
>> Oh.
>> Um, and I'm glad we got the white one cuz if we got the green one, we would never see what it was molding.
>> So if you're worried about mold, like don't get black stuff. Like get white stuff so you know that whether something's molding or not. We do white sheets. I have always just preferred white sheets, but now I really prefer them. So, you can see those changes as they occur.
>> The other thing that we also do to help with duly everything is um just making sure we don't have >> the cabin cluttered. Yeah.
>> So, it's like the other part of it is like pretty much one shout out to Oya, our black off.
>> Oh my gosh. Yes. Oya.
>> He is the roach champion. And I feel like while sleeping, she's on top of it.
>> She does >> kept putting them on. She don't kill them all the way, but she does put them on her our back >> and we'll have to take that for now.
>> And so grateful. So that cats continue to be helpful inside and outside offrid for sure.
>> Also, our we finally have a regular outside cat.
>> Yes, we do.
>> Yes. Cinnamon. We have two Sovereign and Cinnamon, but Sovereign is Sovereign, and we rarely see Sovereign. I personally believe Sovereign has a home or I don't think Cinnamon has a home.
>> Yeah. Cinnamon looks a little rough around the edges.
>> Cinnamon is giving half orange cat.
>> Yeah. Any of you know, you know.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Because our big concern before was rats, which I mean that's gone down >> significantly.
So eventually I bought we're going to plant our uh watermelons and I am a little worried about the rats with the watermelons just because I know it's going to be something good that I'm ready for them watermelons to come in. So I know >> as soon as a critter finds them they're going to be like >> but um I've seen the uh I've I've got I've got things that I'm thinking about.
I've seen like those little pouches that they put on them so that the critters can't get to them and stuff. But um right now roaches have not been an is not roaches roaches have been an issue.
>> Rats have not been an issue like they were. And that's I know it's cuz um black lesbian offgrid egg bless her heart cut down all of that bamboo.
>> If you haven't seen it the bamboo sucka >> all of that bamboo.
>> And um so they don't they just don't climb on the roof anymore. And they like they were climbing on the roof running around running on the muck.
>> But now they haven't been doing that. Um >> we also put that um metal on all of our trees close.
>> And um in terms of like the And we also harvest our fruits way more quickly now.
We we were just letting all sorts of fruit just like be sitting on the ground being a huge like, hey, >> come here rats. It's a buffet over here.
>> It's a buffet. Matter of fact, we need your help.
>> Yeah.
>> Um so yeah.
>> Yes.
Um, and then as far as fruit coming in, we've got some really delicious Brazilian cherries that are coming in.
>> Um, I was going to pick them today, but it's so rainy. It's just not the vibes to be doing anything. I don't feel like doing anything on the homestead today.
>> Yeah, we need a little bit of a transition.
>> More transition time.
>> Yeah. And it's raining.
>> And it's raining.
>> But we'll we'll be back at it. Um, but again >> Yeah. once it's we get a a good day >> or maybe sooner because as you guys know we've changed our content schedule. If you guys notice, let us know in the comments if you notice. We haven't been doing shorts >> not as much and it's because we're going to go live more. Obviously, we had uh Black Lesbian Offgrade's birthday >> and you know, we had to prioritize that because that's my one and only my true desire.
>> Got to celebrate your birthday. And now that that's done, we'll be on a, you know, a focus again. And um I feel like we're going to com commit to at least five streams at 1 hour a week. Yes, that's the minimum. So that's why it's like >> taking away from shorts. And not to say we'll never make shorts again, but taking away from shorts in order to put more energy into the live stream because that's where our heart is as creators.
We love the live stream.
>> We're committed to going live for you guys.
>> Absolutely. And um also we need you guys to watch our live streams because that's how we got watch hours and that's another way that you can help us >> get monetized.
>> Get monetized on YouTube. We're so close, you guys. We just need >> 50 more watch hours for this channel.
How many more watch hours you need?
>> We need a lot, y'all. Y'all just need to go >> watch all of our videos.
>> You need 3,000. I think I'm at like 728.
So, I need some help. Right.
>> Right. And really, we trying to get to 4,000.
>> Um, so I need 1,50.
>> Yeah.
>> From you guys. So, watch all of our videos. And that's why we we got to focus on our live streams. We can't focus on our shorts right now.
>> So, if you're watching in the comments or on any of our older posts or anywhere that you guys know, we'll see it. You know, I respond to every single comment that you guys leave. Um, let us know what you guys like seeing on the live streams and what you guys don't. I think we're going to be talking more about budget and what it takes to be off-grid.
You know, more live streams similar to this one, but we're going to be even more specific. We're going to give you guys prices and numbers and let you guys know exactly how we're doing everything that we're doing.
>> Um, so I'm really excited about it. Yes.
>> I hope you guys will be too.
>> No, we're excited to share more.
>> Mhm.
>> And I feel like more DIY. So, you know, we kind of shared too about, you know, real we know the cabin's ugly and now we're in a place where it's like we can start kind of putting a plan together for what it takes to make a better cabin because, you know, I think what Black Lesbian Offgrid A was getting at was at first we were all about the cosmetic changes cuz obviously we want it to look cute, but you know, there are so many other changes that would give us a better quality of life while we're in that cabin. And I know when we first got here, I was the main proponent of we don't need to put any money into this cabin. We just need to What's up, John?
>> Hey, John.
>> Make sure you hit that thumbs up button.
I was like, we just need to focus on saving every single dollar for our dream home. But that's just not realistic. Um because there's just so many things that you need to feel comfortable. And I personally believe if you don't take anything away from black lesbian offgrid Jay, the main thing that you need to create in your off-grid life is comfort.
If it's not comfortable, you're not going to stick with it. You're not going to stay with it.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I am your love, John. Make sure you subscribe.
>> So, you know, we have to make our cabin more comfortable.
>> And um you know, that's going to take a lot.
>> It's okay. Yeah, >> because um eventually it will just become who knows it could become a second income place. It could become >> a guest house or a family wants to come stay.
>> It could become a retreat space become could become my healing space. You never know.
>> An office >> an office business >> yes >> businesses businesses.
So, um, >> I got businesses, >> But it's it's a structure. And >> you know where that's from. I'm sorry.
>> Um, and it's a structure. And I think what we have learned while being here more than anything is how much money it takes to put up a structure. Y'all may have seen that new tiny house at Costco.
$20,000.
>> I haven't even seen it yet. She told me about it.
>> And it's like, and that's just a structure that doesn't even have a foundation. Mhm.
>> So any structure it's like you're looking at 50k just to build it, you know? So we can't just throw away a 50k structure. You know what I mean? It's like we have to make it work because to first of all Hawaii building materials, shipping it here, all that stuff.
>> It's high. And it's like >> like so I feel like we hacked home ownership in Hawaii by doing off-rid.
But for a dream home with the amenities we want, we're still going to have to pay >> top >> top dollar for it.
>> Billions of dollars. We'll go ahead and be frank. It's going to take millions of dollars. I don't believe I mean they have these quotes online that are like $250,000, but like that'll be for just the kids to build the house. That's not labor. That's not septic. That's not all of these things you need to What's the thing called? Just the plot. What's it called? Uh the drafting or >> no when you pour the cement.
>> Oh, foundation.
>> Just the foundation, you know. And you I feel like we're going to have to be those off griders where we have we get to show you guys with our intelligence and money-making skills because I don't know if we're those off griders who are going to be able to build a whole house for my hands up. I'm go ahead and let you know that right the now.
>> I mean, unless we wanted to build like a Earth ship or something and that's just not better than what we have now. you know, we got to compare >> what we have. You know, people building Earth ships don't have a structure on their property, you know, they they need to that's their first structure. And, you know, so we are fortunate to have a structure.
>> So, our next structure needs to just be a a normal house, you know. Um, >> and I mean, I think too, I'll be honest, I want a normal house. I don't want an Earth ship.
>> Exactly.
>> I think the Earthships are great. And if that's your thing, I think cop houses are great, too, if that's going to be your thing. And those aircrete homes, there are so many cool options for people who want to do off-grid, but it has to be something that we like and that we are going to feel comfortable in cuz it's our house. Um, and the truth is too, there's a girl who we follow, um, who I I'm pretty sure lives in a similar area than we do, because she definitely lives in Hawaii.
>> And she kind of shared, you know, one, she got a $100,000 grant to build her uh, Earth Ship Aircrete home, >> and she was very frank about it to cost way more than >> Trust me. Exactly. It's like Exactly.
So, it's, you know, there's literally nothing wrong with any of those kinds of homes. They're just not better for us than our current cabin.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it's like, and for we wouldn't be able to build this current cabin if we just bought raw land and needed to put something up for ourselves. So, we need to get out of a tent, you know, we would absolutely be open to alternative buildings. But since we already live in an alternative building, yes, we're in Hawaii. Aloha. Um, we need to get that traditional building, >> right? And it's just our preference. So, we're excited about it and we'll we'll be taking no notes.
>> But, um, what we do know about it is that it's expensive.
>> Yeah.
>> So, um, you know, we're doing everything we can to afford it as well as afford comfort in the meantime while we are >> Yes.
Aloha. Yes. So, send positive vibes our way because every day, you know, we're, >> you know, we got to work on funding our dream and and that's another plug to our GoFundMe because that's how you guys can help um by donating to our GoFundMe linked bio.
>> And if you can't donate, we appreciate your click button support because we let you guys know that we are on the road to monetization. We need those watch hours.
So watch us, please.
>> Yes. Yes. Hawaii is expensive.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And that's what we're talking about. And you know, I feel like somebody else people always say that and this is our take on it. And if you think we're full of you know what, let us know in the comments. But I person we personally have observed of all of the places that we've lived is everything costs the exact same.
>> You know, because when we moved to Thailand, we moved to Thailand with the expectation that that was the cheapest place. Literally the cheapest place in the world to live. Yeah. And our living expenses were double there what they are now here. I mean really double. Yeah. I think what were we spending in Thailand?
Like $8,000 $7,000 a month.
>> It was about $7,000 a month.
>> So we were spending $7,000 a month in Thailand. Um and now we spend closer to $3,000 a month. Yeah.
>> Here. So >> and mainland we were spending like $8,000 a month. So, um, so yeah, we didn't know. Oh, you're from Texas and moved to Arkansas. It's cheap and beautiful here. Oh, shout out to Texas and Arkansas. I'm glad you love it.
>> Um, >> you know, being lesbians for us, the South just didn't feel as good. And I know that you're going to say they're black, but it didn't feel good for us.
>> Yeah. We And we want to be by the beach.
So, >> and most most importantly, >> Yeah. And it's like I feel like Hawaii is expensive in the same way your favorite restaurant's expensive. You don't go you don't never go there because it's expensive. You like it so you pay more for it. And that's what we did with Hawaii. We decided to just pay more for what we like as opposed to >> um you know not.
>> And it's like as far as food goes, that's why we're starting a food forest.
And obviously to get to 100% sustainable on our food forest is a really really really huge goal and I won't say never that we'll get there but obvious I I I feel confident that even in the next 5 to 10 years we still wouldn't be fully self-sustaining on our homestead.
>> Yeah.
>> Um because that's just a really tough feat. But um the whole point of it is so that we are better sustained from our homestead, you know. So, owning land saves money because you're not paying rent.
>> Yes.
>> Having solar power saves money because you're not paying a monthly power bill.
>> Yes.
>> Having um >> free water, >> catchment water makes is saves money because we don't ever pay the water company.
>> Yes.
>> Oh, you're able to pay cash for your house and the property tax is just a fraction of most of the country. Same.
So, that's how we we pay cash for our Hawaiian homestead and our property tax is incredibly low. Thank goodness.
>> Um, you two look magically delicious.
Thank you, DJ Green.
>> The magically delicious. What is that from? Is that >> Lucky Charms?
>> Lucky Charms.
>> I like that. What's your name?
>> DJ Green.
>> Thank you, DJ Green. You magically delicious, too. My my guy.
So, um, >> go ahead and hit that like button.
>> Yeah, that's the thing. We know it's expensive and but that's what we want to do with our lives.
>> Mhm. So, we're doing it.
>> So, we're doing it. Um, I'm past 30 minutes.
>> As hard as Go ahead, boo. I know for uh me, as hard as it can be to live in Hawaii somewhere else, I don't really feel like it's felt better to live anywhere else to be 100%.
>> Yeah.
>> Honest. for me, for for us. I don't think that's going to be true for everybody. Yeah. Like like we said, this this uh DJ, is it DJ who's in Arkansas?
>> No. Jeffrey >> Jeffrey Paul over in Black Lesbian Offgrid A's live says that he likes Arkansas. It's nice and cheap. And I'm glad that you like that. I don't know that we would like that though.
>> Yeah. As two black lesbians, it's not our first choice, but it's um the first choice for you. And I'm so glad. And as far as Texas in the south goes, it, you know, it's like I grew up in the south my whole life. So >> yeah, we're from Atlanta. I am not uncertain what it is like to live. I honestly feel like I know what it would be like to live on the whole East Coast.
The only place it would be completely new, we actually we also lived in the Midwest.
>> Um, you know, I'm from the mainland, so I've done the mainland pretty thoroughly and it's pretty sharp.
>> All right, I'm about to restart my live.
Love you guys.
