Metro Detroit Weather: Hazy skies continue Monday

[00:00:07]>> Time now is 5:46 as we draw your attention to the screen. We have Southfield on your left there, Mount Clemens on the right. Late last week, I remember showing specifically the Mount Clemens tower cam there and you could not even see the full stretch of grass yet like we do now. I think you could see maybe two and a half blocks from our tower cam because it was so filled with all that wildfire smoke. So, obviously it's a lot better today, but it's still not cleared up. We still have a good bit of haze out there.

[00:00:38]>> Mhm. Yeah, and I mean, at least you can see things, right? So, that means we are trending in the right direction. So, that's something we'll focus on. The air quality alert though still in effect and that's going to be at least until 12:30 and that's because we still have, as you just saw, that Alicia was mentioning.

[00:00:52]You can see it's still out there. So, the air quality is not great even though we're trending in the right direction.

[00:00:58]There's one plume of smoke we're still tracking out to the west. I think that still needs to work through Metro Detroit and then we'll see some conditions improving. Notice this this hole right here in the smoke. Yeah, I'm thinking that system's going to work on through. It comes in the form of showers and storms first, which will help to wash out some of the pollutants in the atmosphere and then after this cold front moves through, it gives us at least a window of time where there will be a refreshing change, but right beneath the banner the fire is still going. Therefore, all it takes, as you know, is just a few shifts in the pattern as well as the wind flow and air flow and then it brings it right back.

[00:01:32]So, we'll enjoy a break even if it unfortunately does make a return.

[00:01:36]Visibility is not too bad, but as you just saw, we can see the haze, but it's not going to be dense enough to slow you down. That's primarily just an evidence that the smoke is still out there. 52 in Lapeer and Port Huron, 58 in Mount Clemens, pretty much the same in Pontiac, 57 in Adrian and 55 in Monroe.

[00:01:52]Today's forecast, we have a mixture of sun and clouds also with the haze.

[00:01:56]Temperatures are going to climb into the low 80s, so just keep that in mind across Metro Detroit. Going with 82 in the city, 83 in Monroe and Adrian with those hazy skies, but we'll get some peaks of sunshine. Tonight though, we're tracking storms and I think the worst of these storms will occur somewhere between around midnight and 4:00 a.m.

[00:02:15]That window of opportunity there for some leftovers to move through. Some of those storms could be strong to severe.

[00:02:20]You'll see the slight risk just northwest of Lansing. That's where much of the action is going to be brewing.

[00:02:26]From there, we're going to get the leftovers and we're watching to see if these storms could really hold on to the power that they're going to have out west. So, even though we'll get leftovers, they can still cause us some problems as they sweep on through.

[00:02:38]There's the timestamp. This will be during the overnight hours and once again, we'll be here tracking them as they dive across Metro Detroit. When these move out, the system that triggers those storms will still be spinning through the Great Lakes area, so I think we can get some redevelopment Tuesday afternoon as well. So, something else we'll have to follow for your Tuesday.

[00:02:58]So, the storm chances are still there.

[00:03:00]Highs tomorrow going to be slightly hotter, about 85° and then after we hit 85 on Tuesday, then we start to trend in the other direction. How about going from 85 to 76 for a high? Yeah, we're going to have that early fall feel for Wednesday and Thursday of temps in the mid to upper 70s. About 83 though for Friday as we warm up once again and it does look like the smoke could make a comeback later this week. So, hopefully we can get some additional progress on those wildfires.
