HUGE Hantavirus Update!

[00:00:00]We have some very good news. Scientists across the globe have studied the genome, the makeup of this virus, and compared it to the previous genome over the past 30 years. I'm Dr. Robert Friedman, a board-certified internist and infectious disease specialist who's been in clinical practice for over 40 years. Follow along for daily updates as the situation develops. There's absolutely no difference in the genome.

[00:00:26]And what that means is that there's no mutations. And if there's no mutations, so it's totally unchanged. And we look at the the cases that we saw over the past 30 years, there was no pandemic. So this is very, very good news. And I know that you're hearing from the news that there's another new case here and there's another new case here, but that's totally expected. There will be other cases. The the hantavirus Andes strain, which human-to-human transmission can occur. You have people in a closed environment for a long period of time, and they will pass the virus between each other, but it's difficult. You had 147 passengers on that boat, and they were in close contact. They were eating together, so some of them will break out. And to say, "Well, we have another he one and we have another one here." Remember the incubation period is between one to seven weeks. And that means that not everybody will break out the same time.

[00:01:28]Depending on people's immune system, their exposure will determine how long it's going to take for them to incubate and show symptoms. But like I said from the beginning of this report, the news is good. Absolutely no change in the genome with no evidence of any mutations, and therefore, there's no reason why this will not behave like it's behaved in the past 30 years, and there will be no pandemic.
