Alaska's summer 2026 has been cooler than normal, with temperatures 1.3 degrees below average across most of the state, and the rainy season has started earlier than usual around July 12-13. The official forecast predicts above-normal temperatures for August through October across most of Alaska, with 60-70% probability of warm conditions, while precipitation will likely be above normal in the western two-thirds of the mainland. A strong El Niño is expected to peak in October-November-December, with at least a 43% chance of reaching record-breaking temperatures of 2.5°C above normal in the Niño 3.4 region.
