The bystander effect, or diffusion of responsibility, is a psychological phenomenon where individuals are less likely to help in an emergency when others are present, as each person assumes someone else will take action. This concept, demonstrated through real-world examples like the escalator incident where multiple witnesses failed to help a man dying from strangulation, extends to larger societal issues such as climate change, where collective inaction and denial of scientific evidence lead to environmental collapse. The video argues that addressing these challenges requires individual moral responsibility and active engagement rather than passive observation.

The Bystander Effect & Our Dying WorldAjouté :
Yo, welcome back to the insane nightmare. It's May 27th. So glad you're here. I want to view a clip with you and discuss a subject which is very near and dear to my heart and go from there. So, let's just get along with it.
I saw something on the news last night that disturbed the heck out of me and I really wish I would not have seen it.
Have you guys seen this? This guy, he was like 35 years old. I could be a little off with my numbers, but he was a carpenter. looked like he was in perfectly good shape, was going down an escalator. It was 5:00 in the morning and he tripped and fell and he got stuck at the bottom of the escalator and his clothes got sucked in. And so you could see from the camera that he was kicking his legs up and down like really hard.
He was thrashing and right after he fell, somebody came down the um stairs on the other side and saw him and walked over and you can see the person trying to pull him out and help him and was unsuccessful. And so that person turned around and walked off. And so then comes another person and they look at him thrashing, keeps on walking. Here comes another person. They see him thrashing, keep on walking. I'm like, "Okay, what's going on? Where is the person that's going to stop?" up. And so then a woman comes and I'm like, "Okay, this woman is going to stop." She looks at him and keeps walking. By this point, this guy, he's a father of two. He had thought, sorry, he had stopped thrashing and he was just laying there. I was washing dishes whenever this came on and I'd stopped washing dishes and was just looking over like, "This can't be on the news. This cannot be real." So then you see a group of people walk down the stairs. Look at this guy crumbled at the bottom of the escalator. Like they all stop and look at him and then they walk off. When I tell you like 10 or more people walked by this guy and didn't help him. That's unfathomable to me. You know, I really it's just so discouraging because I always want to see the world through rosecolored lenses and I always want to think the best of people and I that just it hurt me to see to see how wicked and just disgusting people are.
Like would you see somebody there at the bottom of the stairs and just walk off?
Are you possessed by Satan? I just thought when I went back to washing dishes and tried to get that picture of those people walking by that guy, that guy ended up dying. He was strangled by his own clothing.
I just thought, come Jesus, this world is you read the Bible.
>> Okay, several things. The concept she's describing is called the diffusion of responsibility. You've heard it before.
It's present in all societies across the world, notably in those that are highly populated in condensed areas where in which the participants feel like I don't have to do something, someone else will.
I've been on both the receiving and giving end of this and all I can say is it helped facilitate and promote my decision to get the hell away from people.
And I suggest you do the same because where we're headed isn't pleasant and we're going to need every bit of help to get us through the day.
In the meantime, I don't even really feel like cowards like this are deserving of life, which is why I have and recommend getting a long gun chambered in perhaps 5.56 NATO, zeroing it to 36 yards, so you have a 350 yard circumference of don't [ __ ] with me and get the hell away from me type vibe because of this.
On a macro scale, it is portrayed not just in an event like this, but in other places like Asia, you have mass stabbing events where one person will go out of their way to cause bodily harm to almost everyone around them. Despite being massively outnumbered, they still continue with their rampage because no one is willing to step up or even band together against the proposed attacker.
And I've seen the other side of it where someone planned an ambush and lured someone in to receive help. This is a very common tactic throughout human history and even in video games. If you've played Red Dead Redemption 2, you have been the victim of this crime, being lured into what seemingly would be like a crywolf, someone needs help situation only to be an attacked violently and have to wait for bystanders to come and help you out, which took many and several uh attempts to disarm this guy. This was a happened like a few months ago, I think. I as well have endured a pretty serious knee injury on a scooter and was bleeding out in a Walgreens or CVS and no one stopped to come and help me. So, it only takes a few situations like this occurring for you to realize that um we are utterly completely beyond hopeless and just no salvation, no redemption for societal ills such as this. And that leads to my next subject, which is what happens on a much bigger scale when masses of people refuse to acknowledge a situation that we need serious help right now and do anything at all whatsoever. I'm aware we are in overshoot with 8.3 billion people on the planet. There was never any solution. However, the principle remains that people could actually act as if they give a [ __ ] But um despite overwhelming evidence that humans are driving up carbon dioxide emissions through the use of fossil fuels and our polluting lifestyle, we don't even flinch. In fact, we elect the person that denies it entirely. So, let me get my internet working and run over the climate and economy May 26 update because it is a doozy. Okay, so we are crossing planetary boundaries left and right. It threatens global plant species as habitats shrink as well as global mean sea surface temperature anomalies departure from average so far this year are the second highest on record.
Fire crews battle near Edenberg's Arthur's Seat. Hottest May ever recorded in Q Gardens in the United Kingdom.
Bulocks I say record high uh heat across France, Europe as a whole, pollinating flowers here. The tomato will be very severely disrupted in southern key France. Um the floods in northern Bulgaria, emergency drought in Greece, heat continues in Morocco, spread of Ebola warns who um it's outpacing us. Fake news, huh? landslide in Angolia. Illegal gold mine kills 28.
Freak hail storm over South Africa. Uh there's a water bill bill billion dollar water rescue plans for Uganda. Um Iraq's wheat fields no longer guaranteed bread, floods, you know, extreme weather events all around the globe as well as um heat in India is going only going to get worse as gig workers battle exhaustion and soaring temperatures. Mangro c mango crop devastated as farmers report losses of 90%. Indians protest over forever chemicals. Uh major weather triggers, rainfall, record rainfall in China, southwestern China, extraordinary heat waves. Japan, record heat. Um this is vicious, guys. visceral the amount of impacts increasing in frequency, intensity, and duration. Observing from afar here in the woods with all of you broadcasting about record warmth in the sub Antarctic Australian island of Macari a few days ago at a minimum temperature of 45.7° F. The warmest May night on record.
Penguins cope with climate change.
Ecuador record heat. Central America Key West bottomed out a sultry 84 degrees Fahrenheit. tied monthly record for fourth time this month. Um you know just sad desperate times for the planet's climate and us as a whole. We can add weakens the purification function of lakes which play a vital role in the ecosystem and remove excess nitrogen from water. But Ian Mc Owen says pessimism is a bigger problem than climate change. She constantly hears saying people they don't expect their children to have as good life as they did but suggested that optimism is a moral duty. What can we know is partly set in 219 in Britain submerged by seas. So much for that. Again I reiterate that we are in overshoot. However, I am something of a humanist in denial, conflicted heavily on the fact that I think we should hold ourselves to the highest standards and be good people. How many people missed that memo just trying to be a good person? I know morality can be a blurry line to discern sometimes, but at least look out for the best interest of everyone involved.
But some issues are too far gone. In this case, climate collapse and political dysfunction is leading us towards a path of mass societal food shortages and famine this fall facilitated in part by arrogance, denial of science. I'm aware how did the Americans get so bloody stupid is because anti-intellectualism was sewn into our roots since the beginning. There are excellent documentaries on this. I shall post one in the description below. I am getting the vibe that the president does not want to leave his term. He wants to stay in power, build a ballroom, put his snipers on top, and fullon reenact that movie Civil War.
>> 19 states have seceded. The United States Army ramps up activity.
>> The White House issued warnings to the Western forces.
>> The Western forces will reach the White House on July 4th.
>> Oh my god.
>> Stand up.
>> Move. Move. Move.
>> One nation under God, indivisible.
God bless America.
So that's my life as the truth wizard.
I miss you guys and this community, the feedback for hardcore realists. I know my numbers are nowhere near uh what other climate related channels. I mean even solar punk Alena's gone down in popularity, but at least she believes in anarchy now. Uh, I'm at this point I'm rambling, but this community is a is a feedbackdriven thing and and enlightens all of us that we can see a predicament together in this world just full on in fake ass pretend mode.
What a [ __ ] head trip. Diffusion of a responsibility was the highlight. It is straight up [ __ ] evil and is one of the things that I most dislike in this world. On the flip side, the things that I most like are what everybody else likes.
Compassion from others, good sensory experience with food and travel, you know, living a life of leisure.
But alas, we are 85 seconds to midnight working with all of our wages going to the top 1%. our productivity has increased and our wages have not inflation has not caught up with living. Um, diversify, buy gold and silver. That'll be useful at first and then coming years as AI takes over and the bubble bursts and every everyone realizes what a great big sham that was. Um, the AI tech stock bubble and global droughts hit us with food scarcity.
Okay, have a chill weekend.
Hopefully catch up with you guys soon.
We're living in the hell realm together.
I'll see you later.
