Weather forecasting involves analyzing current conditions, precipitation patterns, and atmospheric systems to predict future weather events. Forecasters use radar technology to monitor rain showers and lightning activity, measure rainfall amounts across different locations, and track the movement of weather systems. Understanding how weather systems move, dissipate, and change helps people plan activities and prepare for conditions like flooding or storms.

Rain and storms wind down todayAdded:
All right, folks. Welcome back. Taking a look at the Storm Tracker, I believe, or some video of some of flooding taking place from this morning.
And yeah, a lot of rainwater.
All right, this is at Division in North Fremont for us here in Springfield. And uh man to man, a lot of high water out there from this morning earlier on.
Water still flowing pretty good all around the area, but skies starting to change elsewhere, right? I'm looking at the Ozar Haven Home Health and Hospice camera. Little bit of blue sky starting to poke out parts of South Springfield, Beaver Lake. Mix of clouds down through Casino Resort camera. Mix of clouds.
Cloudy skies for us here in Springfield, but largely the rain taking a bit of a break right now, especially in Southwest Missouri, northern Arkansas. Not done yet though, still a few showers to contend with. Over an inch Well, actually closer to an inch and 3/4 in Springfield. Near the 2 inches in Mountain Home. Heavier rains from yesterday and this morning in the brighter stripes there, but a lot of folks seeing 1/2 inch to an inch in a lot of spots also seeing more than an inch from last 24 hours. Good news there. Central Missouri, dry so far, but rain is starting to come together a bit more in Central Missouri. That's where we'll find the higher rain chances as we go through the afternoon today. Look at the big picture. Little cluster of rain going off to the north and east of us and some pockets of blue sky starting to poke out through the cloud cover to the west and southwest. That's good news.
Welcome news. Get some sun in here occasionally today. Looking at radar in northern Arkansas, around Harrison and Boone County to Jasper, uh just to the east of Huntsville and around Berryville and Carry uh Carroll County, you're going to find some rain showers occasionally there this morning. And it'll be locally heavy downpours. Okay, as the rain blows through, it's not going to last all the time, but passing shower will be fast and heavy, all right? Radar right now in Central Missouri, just north and east of Springfield from Marshfield to Lebanon to Waynesville to Fort Wood and Saint Robert Lake of the Ozarks, Eldon, Versailles and we're in between looking at some rain showers this morning. Lightning, not a big deal. We've seen some lightning strikes now with the activity in northern Arkansas, but generally it's just a steady rain. Clap of thunder occasionally, but not too loud. Looking at Futurecast for the rest of the morning into the early afternoon, find some rain showers fade away. If you're going out this evening, you're going to find mostly dry weather, but can't rule out rain entirely tonight.
We'll find a leftover complex come out of Kansas and Oklahoma that'll fade away to the west of Highway 65 as we go into your Saturday morning. Saturday morning in the south might come with a few rain showers, but latest data is trending on the drier side, not entirely clear, but mostly clear for Saturday. Okay, might find some sunshine, too. Sunday might start the day with some rain and storms again coming out of Kansas, and then those will fade away Sunday afternoon right now looking mostly clear as well.
So, the weekend is overall going to be okay. Scattered showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday, but not a washout.
Okay, if you have plans to do outside, if you do any kind of real work, I mean it's going to be wet, okay? So, maybe don't do that if you have to depend on water, but uh if you just want to get outside and enjoy some time this weekend, you'll find a couple opportunities to do that.
As we look into next week, we're going to find sunnier and drier weather blowing all right, that is for your Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, even your Thursday. For today, upper 70s, scattered rain showers and a few storms out there. Nothing severe today. Showers fade away tonight, a few spotty hit-or-miss rain showers for tomorrow.
All right, and tomorrow night is mostly dry. Going into Sunday, may find a few showers early. Afternoon looks good, though, and warm in the 80s. Rain from here, today through Sunday, looks like maybe an initial half inch to inch.
Looking at the 7-day, again, today is the wettest day, but things are starting to change now. Off and on showers through Sunday, maybe a storm or or Monday, but generally clears as we go to next week. Carissa.
>> All right, definitely looking forward to next week, Tom. Thank you.
