Police Impersonator Gets Exposed By Former CopAdded:
It's two bars like flashing.
>> You pulled up beside him and told him to pump his brakes.
>> I didn't do anything. I just asked him.
>> Can you hand me that white bar so it's going to get logged into evidence?
>> I've always said impersonating a police officer is never a good idea because you're almost always going to get caught. And if you end up doing it on a highway, one of the worst things that can happen is that you end up doing it to a person who used to be a police officer before and you're going to get caught. This is one of those.
>> I am deputy insurance license proof insurance.
So, here's for the stops. We're getting calls saying that you were flashing people with red and blue lights and doing about 90. Yes, >> sir.
>> Do you have lights installed in the vehicle?
>> No, I had a radar. I have a radar detector. I don't have it on there.
We're from Austin, Texas.
>> I'd like you to take a look at the positioning of the officers. Always look at this where you might see a crossfire situation or the ability of the officer to be engaged by the suspect chest to chest. If you watch my videos, it seems like it's said every time, and it should be because we have new viewers. These get played in briefing. Shout out to the people at plane and briefing. Behind the B-pillar, your safest position.
>> And what about just the registration?
That's part of the windshield stuff.
>> Yes, sir. We're from Austin, Texas.
>> All right. I'll be back in a second. All right.
>> How's it going?
>> Good, man. How are you?
>> Good. Good. Thanks for keeping the street safe.
>> Yeah, no problem. So, you're just driving and he just end up So, I drive past him and then he passes me, drive past him, and then he passes me and I'm going, "This is annoying."
>> Yeah. So, and being a former cop, I'm like, I don't really want anybody like swirling or hovering. So, I just give it some gas and they go up, catches up to me, and I'm like, "This is weird." So, then this dude keeps following me and doing weird and I'm like, "Okay, I don't like this." So then he passes me and he's like this with he had he put red and blue lights on like he's got I think the little center mount on his dash in his >> Okay.
>> He had the the angled ones that that snug up to the lens. Like when I was undercover that's what I had.
>> It's a little bit annoying when you see this POV cuz you don't get to really see much. What I am sizing from looking at this is that the officer is incredibly safe because as opposed to looking at to the left at the victim, he is maintaining a visual on the suspect vehicle. This is very good policing. It may not be the most fun to watch, but it's the safest position for the officer. He's also got cover from the victim's vehicle, this Lexus that's in front of us.
>> So, I pull over and he gets alongside me and goes like this, >> like pump the brakes or whatever.
>> Yeah. Like, full. You've been driving speeding pass >> doing the same thing the whole time.
Yeah.
>> Yeah. And then my next move was just going to be stop on the side of the road. I didn't have to let him have his thing, right?
>> Mhm.
>> But then I was like, dude, something ain't right, dude. It's not sitting right with me.
>> Yeah.
>> And so if he's going to like use his lights or use lights and he's not a cop, I'm I'm like kind of a >> one of my daughters driving through here and >> Yeah. I know. Do >> you know what I mean?
>> But if you're mom or you know what I mean? Like that's how my brain starts processing like for sure >> and I'm like this.
>> Okay. Call.
>> Yeah.
>> So this is interesting. Police will know this term JDLR. JDLR is just don't look right. It's that feeling that police get that this former officer had that you're putting things together that the situation just doesn't feel right. It's not a legal term, but you can put pieces together with JDLR. Another thing that's interesting about this stop is that they mentioned that the vehicle had Texas plates and they're in New Mexico. Local law enforcement, we only have jurisdiction in our own state. A vehicle that has a Texas plate in New Mexico turning on lights definitely going to fall into that whole situation where it's going to raise red flags >> cuz you know what I mean? None of us really want to be that dude. But it's like I don't I was uncomfortable by it.
>> Yeah.
>> If he's 30 if he's uh if he's law enforcement, it checks out. Great.
>> I don't think he is.
>> So that's weird.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Do you mind if I get your information?
>> I don't know.
>> He has something mounted there, but I don't know what it is. So >> yeah, it was red and blue to it.
>> It bars, a red and blue was like flashing.
>> Flashing.
>> So I pull over and he like then he he doesn't pull me over.
>> Mhm.
>> I was like, "Okay, maybe he's a fed or something, you know, a courier or something. I don't know." He passes me and he's like this telling me to slow down and stuff. I was like cool. Like >> great.
>> You know what I mean?
>> Yeah. Cool. If you don't mind just hanging out in your ride, we'll uh >> like I said, I'm I'm driving to see my daughter. I got all that, bro.
>> Sounds good.
>> So, what did you have mounted right here?
>> I have I used to have a radar detector.
>> Okay. So, where did that go? Cuz you just had something mounted up here.
>> No, I I used to have one up there.
>> Okay.
>> I didn't have one. Why would we be receiving complaints that somebody's saying that you were flashing red and blues at them?
>> Flashing red and blue? I don't have red and blue lights, sir.
>> You don't have any. So, so they're So, they're just seeing stuff.
>> That's not me, sir. I'm not fly. I have kids in my car. So, we're going to Colorado.
>> So, so this is what we got. We got we got a complaint from an individual saying that a black Tahoe with a grill in front of it, Texas license male with a long beard and cowboy hat with a dog in the back came up behind him and f flash red and blues at him. This vehicle looks like a police vehicle, right?
>> Yes, sir.
>> Would you would you agree with me with that?
>> I agree with you.
>> Okay. Why would he And then he said that it was mounted in the center of your dash right below your mirror where you previously had something mounted, right?
I don't have anything. Sorry.
>> I'm just saying >> that's exactly where he's saying that it was mounted, right?
>> Yes, sir.
>> And so >> if if I'm driving down the road, do you think that I'm going to pay any mind to suction cups in the middle of somebody's vehicle?
>> How would I how would I >> how would I know that you ever had anything mounted there?
>> Unless something drew my attention to that specific location, right?
>> So, do you just want to be honest with me or or what's going on?
>> I don't have it. I don't have anything that's I used to have my radar detector.
>> Well, it seems fairly easy to take something down from there. Yes. And so >> if I was somebody that was doing that, I would be worried about impersonating a law enforcement officer and if I have anything mounted up to it, I would just take it down.
>> Okay, let's play this out. You're on a family trip. You get pulled over and the officer is saying that someone said that you were flashing lights at them pretending to be a police officer. Is your response going to be like this guy?
like this meek like, "Oh, yeah, I get what you say." Uh, or you LIKE, "THERE'S NO WAY. I I DON'T I DIDN'T DO IT 100%.
There's no LIGHTS IN MY CAR." YOU'RE GOING TO BE so adamant that it wasn't you. His response is not consistent with the person who had nothing to do with flashing lights, which is something that is so obvious whether it was done or not. That's something to key in on.
>> The person that described everything else to a T happens to just be wrong on that one specific part, right?
I don't have your >> You see how unrealistic that seems?
>> I understand.
>> There was a guy smoking on his >> and we >> we were going around him and we kept, you know, getting in the left lane to pass and we made a guy mad. We I know 100% we made a guy mad. I've been told >> just pass him. But I like I guarantee you I know we made them not just like I don't >> Okay. So So if I got a search warrant for the vehicle, I would not find anything that would flash red and blue whatsoever.
>> There's nothing in the vehicle that flashes that.
>> We want to stick to that story.
>> So So the individual that you were having a confrontation with, right? Cuz >> have a confrontation. It's just like walking around just like their spirit. I was like, >> so so that that same individual um is prior law enforcement. And so he stated that he thought that you were probably with the FBI or something along those lines and that you pulled up beside him and told him to pump his brakes after you flashed the red and blues at him.
>> That's all I didn't do anything. I just passed him. And >> you just passed him?
>> Yes, sir.
>> You never told him with pumpus brakes or do anything like that?
>> Yes, sir.
>> Okay.
I have a hard time believing that, especially with suction cups mounted in the exact location where he said he observed the red and blue flashing.
again. Like it's pretty hard when you're going 70 m per hour down a road and especially with this vehicle being as tented as it is to be able to observe just suction cups on a clear front windshield. They're clear suction cups.
And so he said that there was something mounted there. So again, I'm just trying to give you a chance to be completely honest with you. I had a I have my my kids in the car. Mhm.
I mean, you could definitely use it to your advantage, right? Like if you're trying to get somewhere pretty quick and there's a slower vehicle in front of you, your vehicle looks like a police unit, flash red and blues and have people move out of your way and then you continue down the road. You see what I'm saying?
>> The evidence that we have so far is that we have a witness who seems like a very good witness who says that this occurred. Is that enough for the officers to conduct a search of the car for the light? So, there's three ways you can search, right? Consent, good to go all day. The person says, "Yeah, you could search it." Or a car is an exception with the carol. That's all you need is PC. Or you can get a warrant.
But those suctions on the window and that witness, would it be enough to search inside that car? Especially if there's attorneys, and I know you watch.
>> We have no explanation for why he would say that and point out the exact location where you previously had something mounted.
Again, I just want you to be completely honest because the seriousness of impersonating a police officer, right, is the fact that we have individuals do that and then commit pretty outrageous crimes on individuals, right?
>> One tool I think could have been really effective here would have been to Mims him. Pennsylvania verse Mims, ask him to step out of the vehicle and bring him back to the patrol vehicle, separate him from the adult female in the car and the kids, marry him to a story back at the vehicle and get the wife to explain. And separating them, very, very good idea.
well within the confines of the law. You can mim him every single day of the week under the circumstances.
>> Again, this vehicle looks like a police vehicle, right? The windows are dark and tinted. We have a brush guard on the front. It's a it's a Tahoe like every other agency drives, right? And so, it'd be very easy to have something mounted to make others believe that you're some form of law enforcement. And if it's just for the mere reason of like, hey, sometimes they're slow drivers and I like to just hit red and blues and get them out of my way, then okay, roger. I got it right. But at the same time, it's just not lining up. I'm I'm not tracking with everything that you're saying.
>> Me neither. And I've also noticed that he has that American flag shoulder American flag thing, which also if you want to hang your arm out of the window to make yourself look more like law enforcement, it's just another piece to the whole puzzle. These officers are on track. So, were we just trying to get him to move out of the way or did you feel like he was trying to road rage for against you?
>> Yeah, we just felt like he was we just got around and and he was hauling down the road.
>> Okay, just hang tight. I'll be right back with you.
>> I thought officer was uh >> so did I >> cuz I see everywhere else where they just 15 them. Yeah, >> but I think a lot of times it's a misdemeanor.
>> ABQ, dude. They >> Well, cuz that one in Albuquerque that dude tried to stalk that >> a cop. Yeah. So, I guess that would be a misdemeanor in the presence.
>> If a misdemeanor is not committed in the officer's presence, the officer cannot make an arrest. But a felony, the officer can make the arrest. It appears that they're finding in this jurisdiction that it is a misdemeanor to impersonate an officer under those circumstances. That's what it sounds like. Shocking to me, cuz in most jurisdictions, I thought that it was a felony. So, I believe that that's what the conversation is. It wasn't committed in their presence so that they can't make the arrest. If someone from New Mexico is either from this department or from that area, it sounds like that's what they're saying. The misdemeanor not committed in their presence.
>> I don't get it, dude. What good does it do you to have red and blues on your truck?
>> He says he uses them or I think why he uses them is because he wants to speed and he wants to get other people out of the way. So, he hits his red and blues to get out of his way.
It's a good way to put a target on you in this uh here day and age environment.
>> Why you would ever pretend to be a cop?
>> Yeah.
>> I don't get it.
>> Especially with your wife and kids, like you know, >> 100%. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> The type of danger that you put them in at that point. So, yeah.
>> Especially driving a blacked out Tahoe with a freaking brush card on it.
>> You look like I mean cuz technically we could summon him for, you know, tampering with evidence. So, I'll go get a social and then think enough times pass by or no?
>> I believe you would say the tampering with the evidence would be from when he removed it from where the suction cups were. That's just a guess, but the edit I can't tell.
>> All right. So, a couple things here. So, I need a good address from you. Is it going to be the one that's here on the license?
>> Yes, sir.
>> That's going to be a good mailing address.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Okay. So, you're very lucky today that you're not going to jail for impersonating a police officer. So, you are going to receive a criminal summon.
So, they're going to mail you copy stuff like that. You're going have to go to court for it. Okay. So was that. So >> can't get back up here. It's a different state.
>> That's going to be you're going to have to get up here for it.
>> They also do video conferences and stuff like that. Here's here's the thing, man.
First off, it's never good to start off with me with a lie, right? Just be straight up and honest with me and I'll work with you. Okay? If it's merely to move traffic out of your way, some stupid reason like that, then okay, just tell me. You know what I'm saying?
And so the second thing, so need to hand me that light bar. So that's going to get logged into evidence. So that is the one with me today. All right.
So in the future, definitely do not be anything like this after the windows cuz the next time you will go to jail for impersonating an officer. So I'll be back. I'm going to get all this information typed in and then you'll be free to go after that. All right.
>> It looks like he did have the light bar and he turned it over to the officers.
He lied about it at some point during the interaction. He confessed to it.
Now, they have that and they said they're going to submit a criminal summon. In some jurisdictions, they do that. Now, the DA at that point has the ability to file additional charges or throw the thing out altogether. I'd like to shout someone out. The people I'd like to shout out are the young people who watch these videos who are going to test for police. Someone may run faster than you on the physical fitness test.
Someone may score higher than you on the written test. But one thing you are 100% in control of is your background. That charge of impersoning a police officer that's going to follow this person. You are making the sacrifice of not hanging out late with your friends. You are making the choice to go into law enforcement and you control your background. So, shout out to you. Keep on doing the right thing. I support you.
