This confrontation highlights a systemic failure in civic education, where public servants mistake constitutional transparency for a personal threat. It serves as a necessary, if provocative, stress test for the accountability of government institutions.

>> Taking a tour. We've never been here before.
>> We wasn't coming in our office. I don't know why, Miss Lauren.
>> Yeah. They said we looked professional.
We didn't need a public escort.
We're going to have to start this over.
Do we need to see somebody?
Oh man.
It is not that deep.
>> It is not that deep, y'all. Look, green light. It says push door to open.
>> And it says ring bell for assistance. We just didn't need no assistance.
>> What's going on, Joe?
>> I don't know. the uh you're allowed to film in the main areas. You can't go in the offices.
>> We didn't go into a private office right here.
>> Yeah, we >> Yeah. Now, those are offices. Those are private.
>> Come here, sir. This is >> It's a public.
>> It says push door to open.
>> Look.
>> If that was private, that would be locked or have signage.
>> Main areas.
>> Now, look.
>> Now, back there is a private office, but this right here, >> anybody, they even have welcoming seats out here. Don't go back to any offices.
>> We're not going to go back into the office. We can stay in there though.
>> Yeah. We're not going anywhere any office, but wherever it's public >> Yeah. We we doing that though.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Just just the thing is this. It seemed like you're you're law enforcement.
>> Yes, sir.
>> You should educate her that we have every right to be here and to record.
>> It's a public building.
>> And just And just like you, >> she's a public official as well. Yeah.
>> So when she come down there coming to get you.
>> Hey, look. They have every right. They had to kill everything. She don't know.
>> Yeah.
>> But you supposed to know.
>> Excuse me.
>> Sir, this area right here by the by the desk is it's a public, right?
>> The front desk. Is that right?
>> It's what?
>> It's a public area where the front desk is in there.
>> I mean, it's our office area.
>> It's a public building. This is a public office. Those are the private offices.
They can shut their door.
>> Those are all private.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Correct. Correct. Yeah.
>> This is >> We're good here. We're good in here.
>> Wow. Y'all, she thinks we can't be inside of here.
You guys can't go back here.
What are you doing?
>> We're documenting.
>> Taking a tour, seeing who works what, where.
>> We'll get it figured out. So, >> I don't know what the freak out is.
We're just taking a tour.
>> Freak out is because nobody made me or >> Yeah. We're just taking a tour of this city hall. And they told us they told us we can go to the first and second floor.
So, that's what we're doing. So, >> Yeah. Yeah. show up in your area. What are you going to do?
>> We're going to be like, "Hey, I work here. This is what I do. I'm professional." That's what you get paid to do.
>> Y'all y'all have good day.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> The only Well, what what has got me >> Yes, ma'am.
>> to question this is because nobody called me told me that you I was expecting >> surprises respect, Miss Lori. No one has to call you and tell you that we going to come into a public office. Now, your office, >> that's the whole reason our security is set up down there >> is for if is for guests to check in and to check in for certain people.
>> See, y'all still operating off of COVID rules, though. Somebody should have to check in to go to the public library.
This is the city hall.
>> Now, had had they called me and said, "Hey, there's some gentlemen coming up with some cameras." But nobody did.
>> That would have been kind. That would have been respectful. But they don't have to. That's the thing, Miss Lori.
Now, your office right here, that's private. You didn't shut your office. I wasn't even trying to go in your office.
I'm very respectful.
>> Okay. But what is your purpose here, though?
>> Just to look and say, "Hello, Shalom and what's up to you. We couldn't get there."
>> But why do you have to have it on camera?
>> I haven't got no coffee this morning either. I'm a little cranky.
>> I don't need coffee, but I just need to know why you're filming me.
>> So, what we're doing is we're documenting anywhere there is public access, and we're taking a tour. We've never been here before. So, we came up, saw what was what, and we went inside because the buttons green, so that means we're welcome to come in here. We didn't step foot in your office.
>> Okay. Well, this I consider this my office. And of course, >> this whole thing is No, this is this is my office.
>> This is our personal space.
>> This is my personal space.
>> Well, of course it is. But this is where we conduct business. And if I see people I don't recognize, especially with cameras in here, when I'm not expecting them, I'm going to question.
>> And that's okay. That's all I was trying to just tell you. just shut your office.
That's what's private. If you want to do anything private, that's why everybody had their office to go in and shut your door because out here that's public.
>> Okay. Well, then let me share with you what we do in here. This is the city auditor's office. And what we do is we go in and we uh do a risk assessment of the areas of the city to understand where there are areas where we might not be performing or we might not be meeting objectives or we might not be working efficiently or effectively.
>> And we go in and we perform audits of those areas. And um then we uh assess what we've seen and we eventually end up with an audit report that we report out to the public. And so we have all those audit reports published on our website, the city's website under the city auditors page. So at any time you could go out there and look and see the work that we've done.
>> And Miss Lori, I think that's amazing. I I would have loved to have captured that when we first came in. I would have loved to got that.
>> No, but you got to put yourself in my spot. If I see somebody in here with cameras that I'm not expecting.
>> It's it's a it's allowed to do that. The public can come in at any time, record you, request your information. Are you aware that I can request your hiring date, >> your salary, >> your emails?
>> I I am absolutely aware of all that.
>> Why are you still snappy? It's okay. But >> I'm absolutely aware of that. But I'm snappy because you have caught me off guard and you've interrupted.
>> That's the whole point. That is the entire point. We want to catch you when you don't expect it because we want to see how you truly are to people who you don't know. that comes up into your office. Well, >> do we have weapons on us in the open?
Like, no. We have cameras. So, we're obviously coming in here to document something. We're coming in here to document your work. What do you do?
We're making sure you guys do the right thing. And the way you kind of treated us kind of, you know, threw us for a curveball. We weren't expecting that.
>> Well, I wasn't expecting you. So, what do you think? But also, I wasn't expecting somebody to walk in here in in my space and tell me to sh >> We wasn't in your space in the public space. You was in your office. You should have just shut your door and kept >> We were trying to get some B-roll footage, >> but it's okay. You know, I was able It's good that you was able to share with us a little bit what you do. I respect what you do. I mean, kind of like the similar work what you do. So, I respect you, Miss Lori.
>> We are public auditors, so we go out in public and make sure people are doing their right things.
>> Okay. Um, well, it's nice to meet you guys. Your name?
>> George.
>> George.
>> Call me Michael.
>> Michael, it's nice to meet you guys.
>> Nice to meet you, too. So we just going to just to look around. Okay.
>> Yeah. It would have went way shorter.
This just kind of We wasn't going to be If you speak to the office on the other side, they'll let you know. We was in there two minutes.
>> Oh, in the action center.
>> Uh the other side, the city. Yeah, the city. City. You can speak with them. We spoke with them. They let us know what they do as well. The gentleman there >> who's in there two minutes is that.
>> So this just got a little prolonged, >> you know. But >> well, had security called me and said somebody's in the building coming by filming, >> things would have been fine. But nobody did. And so I'm here to protect.
>> That's because I told him to >> You told the guy downstairs.
>> I told him to >> Yep.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. We just got out.
>> So we got It's just like a library. We don't want to make any kind of ruckus in here. We want you guys to work like it's just another day. So that's why we just sh >> Well, it's not every day we have people walking in here filming us.
>> It can happen though.
>> Well, you might.
>> Well, now I know.
>> Y and I appreciate you getting in. I got to get back to work.
>> Okay. Well, yeah, I do, too.
>> I don't want to have to charge you for anything. So, >> what would you be charging?
>> So, we didn't get our back in. We won't get it now. We have to restart.
>> It's okay.
>> I'm sorry.
>> Sorry.
>> The boss is going to be mad, bro.
>> It's okay.
>> All right. You have a great day. Yeah.
Yeah. Thank you.
Oh man, I'm scared.
All right, guys. Well, yeah, that went a lot longer than expected, y'all. I mean, there's a way to do it and a way not to do it. Um, >> yeah. So, she should have greeted us, man. I mean, look guys, there's chairs.
There's there's everything in here that says, "Hey, this is a public office, y'all." Obviously, they do have their private offices within that public area, but you know, so I don't know. Crazy.
Crazy. Shout out to What's your name?
Sergeant What?
>> F.
And shout out to this officer right here. I knew your fish, brother. Thank you. I appreciate you.
>> Yeah. How you doing?
>> Doing good. How are you >> doing? Good. What do you work here?
>> Yeah, I do. What what what position are you or >> I'm working in public information and engagement?
>> Okay.
>> So, what are you all up to?
>> Public information engagement. That's what we're doing.
>> Welcome to Seattle. Are you from around here?
>> Uh, no. So, we're taking a tour and stuff and never been here. We saw this beautiful building, so we wanted to come check it out. They told us we could go to the first and second floor, so we're just checking out our public offices here.
>> Yeah. Let me show you. Council Chamber.
>> Oh, heck yeah. Heck yeah, man.
>> And what's your name, sir?
>> My name is Zach Nash.
So, obviously this building was built with the WPA project along with the county uh courthouse and the civic center.
>> Okay.
>> There was one other building uh the old city jail that was also part of it.
>> Um but this was built around you know early 30s part of that >> 1830s 1930s. Okay.
>> Oklahoma City is a relatively young city compared to >> Okay.
>> So, let me unlock these doors real quick. Awesome. Get you in here. Yeah, appreciate you. Wow, guys, I would have never have known this was up here. Uh, but this is awesome. All right, this is the city council chamber.
Uh, this is where they do all the business meetings, guys, right here.
Wow.
Look at that.
>> Okay. I was going to say, do they put information up on this thing? And >> yeah, most definitely.
>> Awesome.
This is crazy. They got the lighting and everything.
>> I appreciate you, Zach.
>> You know, we go to many places and uh we don't get it's not always a warm welcome.
>> I really like what you did there. And I just got to commend you guys. First of all, we don't even really get to see you guys. Trying to make everything digital.
>> Oh yeah. in this world, you know, we got to we got to serve both people, both that are digitally connected as well as those that, you know, just show up or don't have the access to the internet or anything like that. So, >> is there a certain day that you guys do your meetings on?
>> No, our our council meetings are on usually every other Tuesday, >> but we have meetings that go from historic preservation to planning to all that stuff.
>> Yeah.
>> Um throughout the week.
>> Okay.
>> But, >> and is that just extra seating up there or what? Yeah. So, so that is just some some our press box. Okay. That's where most the members of the press come when the poet meetings are happening.
>> Okay.
>> So, they have a place to to set has audio >> audio and video up there for them.
>> So, yeah.
>> Is there anything else?
>> Yeah. This is professional looking for sure.
So, >> those are just some admin offices to to the city council or city manager and mayor's office. Um, and so this is our city council offices.
We also have our control room. Come check this out. Pretty cool.
No selfies.
So this is where we run all our public meetings and stuff. Um we do our our we broadcast on our cable channel here and stream to YouTube.
>> This is you guys stream to YouTube.
>> Yeah. So do that through here. And we have an employee that switches all of our meetings.
>> Yeah.
>> And make sure that we're transparent and get that to the public.
>> That's the word right there. That's the key word. Transparent.
>> Hey, give me some. This is cool.
>> Appreciate you.
>> This is really cool.
>> Yep. Yeah, for sure. Yes, sir.
>> Wow.
>> We'll go down there.
>> Are there any other questions I can answer for you?
>> Uh, how long have you been working here?
>> I've been working, let's say, 18 years.
>> 18 years, man.
>> So, um, >> that's some dedication right there, brother.
>> Well, it's all the public service.
>> Yeah. I can't see myself kind of working for >> what's up there.
>> Uh, it's just more admin offices.
>> Okay.
>> Um, I think most of our legal staff work up there.
Zach, we we do this all over the place and I have to say you are by far the most professional I've ever encountered by doing this.
>> I we can't Yeah, >> I know you I know you're like, "Hey, I'm just doing my job." It will be surprised how many times it's not like that.
>> So, we salute you, brother, man.
>> No problem.
Appreciate you. Y >> have a beautiful day.
>> Thank you.
>> All right, CTI fam. Well, that was absolutely crazy, man. We were not expecting uh what happened with Miss Lori there on the second floor. Um guys, everything was going good, man. Uh we went to the city clerk's office. Um and yeah, man. So, uh we did not expect her to act the way she did. She was acting like a little kid for sure. Uh trying to say, "Hey, uh I need a call if people are coming up here to document." No, you do not, guys. This is our public building. Uh, yes, you have your private office inside of that public building, but that is not how that works. So, shout out to Zach, man. Shout out to Zach. He definitely earned the employee, the government employee of the month through us, through my eyes. So, shout out to him for that. But, all right, y'all. As you can see, I am with my boy KCA, y'all. He was uh asking her questions, doing his thing, man. But, you know, my side, I kind of had to add some comedy into that for sure. But uh I'll catch y'all on the next one.
Deuces.
