[00:00:00]had a customer come in this morning looking for a sprocket. He said his sprocket showed 2040 and he's using 2040 roller chain. So, he wanted it with a 1-in shaft with a keyway and set screw.

[00:00:13]So, I went back to the shelf and got a standard 40 sprocket. Brought it up here and I thought what I would do is kind of show you the idea behind using a 40 sprocket on a 2040s roller chain.

[00:00:29]So, here's the 2040 roller chain. And what they mean by that is that it's a double pitch. Now, here's the 40 roller chain. And as you can see, it's just a single stranded chain compared to the 2040, which it's a double pitch is what they call it. Now, according to my diamond catalog here, 40 roller chain should be 1/2 inch pitch.

[00:00:53]go into the catalog and we're going to go we're gonna find 40 and it's half inch pitch as you see there and pitch they're calling out is center of pin to center of pin and what I mean by double pitch is when you take this sprocket and you put the standard 40 chain on it you'll see that between every pitch you get a tooth where on the 2040 it's going to be every other tooth.

[00:01:28]You can see how two of them fit in between as they're calling that a pitch.

[00:01:34]And they basically call this extended pitch or double pitch. And that's the idea behind 2040 roller chain. Now, you can take this same sprocket, put it on your unit, and then when the teeth go bad, you basically turn it over, and now you got a whole new section of new teeth to last you twice as long.
