Iran Warns Of Immediate Strike As Donald Trump Extends Ceasefire

[00:00:01]Well, let's get some more updates coming in. A ceasefire has been announced by the US President Donald Trump. We are understanding that Iran has issued a warning to Trump. Iran has said they're ready to attack if the US hits and our military is ready >> [music] >> to attack and trigger. That's what the Iranian side has said. They've said that we'll strike immediately if the US attacks. You know, going back to Nick on this, Nick, you know, we were just discussing a while back and you also mentioned that on one hand the US President appears to be extending an olive branch and on the other hand we're also seeing heavy military assets and military build-up in the region.

[00:00:32]>> [music] >> Now, what truly does this go on to indicate about the talks because we're also seeing some very hard sticking points that have been presented by both parties.

[00:00:44]Yes, some very hard sticking points and just to run through those before we get on to what that Iranian response has been. Of course, throughout this whole two-week ceasefire, the US President has been maintaining that the Iranians have agreed to everything. And by his calculation, that means that they've agreed to never have a nuclear weapon.

[00:01:02]They've agreed to hand over their stockpiles of enriched [music] uranium.

[00:01:06]They have even agreed to hand over their nuclear dust that they will dig up from underneath the ground from where it was bombed into position. Uh many things that the Iranians have pushed back against saying simply that [music] they have not agreed to those things. And they have been particularly angered that the US has not lifted that naval blockade during [music] this two-week ceasefire. And now with the US military saying that they are ready, that they've rearmed, they've retooled, and they're ready in position to fight back against Iran if necessary, we have seen [music] the counter response from the Iranians ahead of a very powerful group within Iran uh saying that the Iranian military is ready and on the trigger. Saying, "Our capable and powerful forces have long been in the state of 100% readiness and are ready [music] and on the trigger." Making it very clear that both sides at this stage, even though they are pushing towards diplomacy, stand ready to resume hostilities. Of course, that is not a situation that either side perhaps necessarily wants. The wider Middle East region, the wider world certainly doesn't want to see a resumption of hostilities, but both sides are threatening that. Perhaps as a way to win concessions, perhaps as a way to get the other side to the negotiating table, but certainly it causes tremendous concern for many people watching and waiting to see what will happen next in this unfolding situation.
