I've especially enjoyed the experience of like reacting to this season.  I think this show is is especially fun to share and so I'm going to miss that energy  of The Boys because I like sharing comic book stuff. I like sharing movies, but there's  something about The Boys that like the satire, the layers. There's something meta about even us  being like part of the commentary. I don't know.

Guys, Greg, Koy, Coy, I'm going to come to you first  because you have the most trouble experiencing emotion. I do. What struck you most emotionally  in one of the more emotional boys episodes?

[00:42:14]Um, you know, Frenchie, like that was one of  the better TV deaths I've ever seen because they um they really manipulated all of our emotion  to have a bunch of false leads of who was going to die and we're at the penultimate episode. So  like arguably that was maybe that might be one of the more impactful deaths because I imagine  there'll be a lot of death in the finale. So to have the episode end in a way that you know  you'd kind of teed up a lot of potential deaths.

[00:42:40]Um I thought Ashley was going to bite it. I  thought at any point Huey might um they they gave a lot of I mean they had that great speech  from Mother's Milk. They did a lot of the things in writing where they give a big moment and  then it could be the last scene for someone.

[00:42:54]Um so I thought it was really effective in its  emotional manipulation that like there were five misleads and then Frenchie gets you know his own  last beat. But it's the it was the sound design and the the silence and the sobbing and like the  emotionality of Kamiko and it's from a character who was silent for 90% of the show. So having her  speak this season allowed for that. Like the whole arc of her learning English allowed for that to  be like more emotionally devastating. Like her being audible and um the whole episode, you know,  it's one of those things where good writing is in hindsight. you see it all like you know the the  talk of love and him bonding with Sister Sage like they did all the right things to ceue up how that  was going to be extra devastating. Um so yeah like like that was a really effective death. I mean  that's a character we've had for seven or eight years. Um and and a bunch of really fun like comic  moments like the goggles again and like how they were able to to make those little things. Also  just want to give some love to uh the mother's milk speech. I think that was my favorite mother's  milk moment of the show like of all five seasons.

[00:43:59]Um his his name is different in the comics. Uh  the reason he's called Mother's Milk. So that was a really cool way to um is it something like  gross in the comic? Yeah. So to make it to make it see like the guy that Jamie Fox plays in that  one. It it's more depraved and and you know it's a kind of the equivalent of a dick joke kind of  thing. Uh whereas this was like really emotional and and very heartfelt. I really like this episode  kind of gave us obviously the the end of Frenchie, but it also gave us origins in a way for Mother's  Milk and and a bit more context to Butcher. Um cuz Butcher in the comics is like, you know,  the military background and stuff, but we've never heard a lot of that. Like obviously Jeffrey  Dean Morgan and a little bit, but that was like the most context we've been given. So interesting  to have the Penultimate episode have two origin deep dives and then the death of Frenchie.  So the boys got a lot of time to really like contextualize themselves. So now I'm definitely  worried more people are going to die. Yeah, they are letting the Stranger Things kids die  this season. It's crazy. Yeah. Gee, what had the biggest emotional toll on you this episode? She  didn't eat the Taco Bell. She didn't eat whatever that burrito food like that. My mom be so mad  at me. I'm still hungry thinking about it. Well, good news is there are a few around. So, I'll  get a taco after this. It was a few takes, too, so how much did they waste? Yeah. Uh well, I mean  that's a it's a it's interesting question of like what else would it be? Such an obvious answer,  isn't it? I guess it is. All right. What are you compelled to talk about then going here, but  what? Okay. So, what else shocked you the most?

[00:45:37]What else would take the cake? What what what what  would top the demotion? What do you think we're headed toward now that everything is where it is?  or talk about Frenchie or just share your thoughts on Frenchie. Just just say what you want to say.  Whatever it is, start wherever you want. Um, I have a harder time with TV deaths more than  most people. I go so hollow every time. If it's a goodbye or a death, I tend to go very hollow.  There's something about TV specifically that does that to me more than movies or shows for some  reason. It's like uh it's like how I am in real life death with something I'm someone I'm really  connected to. You spend all that time like when my dad died, I didn't cry for like the first day  or something like that. Took me a while. Something just happens where my wall like it's just like  this empty. It's the I guess that's what shock is. I guess that's what shock and denial is.  Like this isn't real. This isn't happening right now. Yeah. Because I think there's more of like a  That's what it is. Okay, I cracked the code. It's a it's a longer lasting relationship in a TV show  than it is with a movie. You know, even if there's like multiple movies, it's not compared to like  the length you commit to a television show. So, there's this uh feeling of like hollowess that  like washes over me. And so, yeah, it was a really sad one, especially in hindsight of like they they  they set up a lot of these characters like is this their death speech? Is this their death moment?  So, they do a lot of that here. And it seems like a lot of signs were leading towards Frenchie  dying this season. I didn't think it would happen though in this way. Like it it there was nothing.  It seemed like he might die this season. I did not think it would happen actually in this episode  surprisingly. And uh with the and the way how he dies is for someone else's like desire like she g  she gains something that she wanted but it was at the sacrifice of himself. So it is love you know  and the greater thing they wanted it for. Yes, it was a beautiful it was a beautiful sendoff  and it only more emotionally motivates this final episode. I've had a lot of like anxiety and  headaches lately and uh today is no exception for that. And there was like thoughts that were  interfering in my brain a little bit because uh with just managing a channel, you can't escape  some of the noise and some of that noise has been about how a lot of people like [ __ ] hate this  season for some reason. And I I don't know. I haven't like dived into like the super specifics  honestly. And so some of that was like interfering in my brain when I was watching this episode cuz I  was going like what is it that people don't really like about this? I don't I don't It's not even  like the political [ __ ] And maybe that political [ __ ] is a thing that's like bleeding over and  they're making it about other stuff. I don't know.

[00:48:26]But apparently people the main common word has  been filler. There's been a lot of filler. Insane.

[00:48:31]This season has been so full. Yeah. I feel like  it's been like mainly characterbased stuff and we're dealing with modern society. Like people are  dumb as [ __ ] That's where it feels like some of that is is coming down to cuz I was like wow one  of my favorite episodes of this season perhaps the series. People were like total filler and it  wasn't like there was nothing filler in there.

[00:48:52]The the one with the multiple stories like I was  like wow this is like a real like [ __ ] thing that people keep saying about this show and uhing.  So like when I'm watching like a great scene where I'm hearing about like Butcher's backstory  and seeing how more of Butcher's backstory and how like yeah it's there's all these things  about what makes Butcher Butcher and Jeffrey D.

[00:49:11]Morgan's confronting him and and telling this  true story of of him. And it's like you you reframe last season where this guy was a was was a  was an advocate for the butcher that we know where butcher's mind reframed him to be that when that  really wasn't the case. He was another version of a of a of a Huey in some aspects, right? And  I'm like, I like that. Like I find that rich. And then my mind's going there much [ __ ] people  are complaining about this, you know? So that starts like interfering with a with an already  anxiety racy thought mind of mine. And so yeah, I was like it's just been like a weird experience.  And sometimes I wish I wasn't privy at all to any of that noise. And I don't see search for it. It  just sometimes gets in there. And uh yeah, so I was like really I I really like still like this  episode. I think it's very character motivated and um haunting. I like So when Jesus was being  tortured co Oh yes. Yes. when Jesus was being like so they they call it like um like his whole  crucifixion was a bunch of stages and like part of the first stage is was the uh public humiliation  and then the whipping and then they put like uh they made thorns a crown of thorns and they put  it on his head and that [ __ ] hurts. They put a thorn on like cuts into you. So it's a false king.  It's a humiliation tactic uh of it. So saw that in that Mel Gibson movie. So it becomes the symbol.  It becomes the symbol of the pain and sacrifice, you know, on behalf of our sins and all that.  I see how that relates to the the Homelander.

[00:50:43]So then the Homelander thing is like, oh, this  is not the point. And also also false king also like that's got layers to the total perversion  of what the concept is. Yeah. Why do people that like Homeboy wear him dead on him? It's a symbol  of sacrifice and a reminder to look out for your common man in a similar fashion. Well, his death  is the thing they can say he died for our sins.

[00:51:11]So, because of Jesus, we can now go to heaven and  such. Yeah, that too. But like if people if like if if people's kids get killed in a school shoot  and they wouldn't wear like an AK on their neck.

[00:51:22]Uh well, they haven't set up a church around  that. Those are very good questions. These are these are fair questions. There are other things  you could wear. It's just I was wondering if this symbolism had like because symbolism is obviously  so powerful and important and like the cross is so interesting as like a I feel like people wear it  as a reminder of the love and sacrifice and the call to live by that you know example. Well people  also use like crown of thorns. It's like an like in that Johnny Cash song. I wore this crown of  thorns like yes I am the king of this but this is I'm suffering. But yeah 9 wrote it first. Johnny  Cash. I I did he say I don't think 9 in Nails says crown of thorns. He says crown of [ __ ] Yeah.  Oh, you're right. Johnny Cash made a Jesusy cuz Johnny Cash is very Jesus. That is fascinating cuz  I never I never would have notic. Yeah. All right.

[00:52:10]All right. Man in black doing his thing. Sorry. We  went we went astray. Uh John. Yes. Yes. Uh I like John, what was the most emotional scene for you?  Did you find Frenchie filler death good? Did you like all that filler? I was going to say, I mean,  like, you know, the Frenchy death obviously is like a centerpiece thing, but this was an episode  with multiple dimensional emotional moments. And my favorite was probably the little mother's  milk uh monologue. Personally, I really liked that thing between him and Starlight after both of  their struggles with the reason to try at all and why and and especially when you're being unre like  then that's part of the whole Jesus thing is like to do the right thing even though it's probably  going to be very unrewarding and very difficult and you're probably going to get spat on for doing  this. So like you know the MM thing that if they really brought that around from something like  silly and obscene to something Yeah. like very sweet like a sign of like I persevered and you  know how great I felt when that bird flew off.

[00:53:09]I was like that's really beautiful and like I  had expected to get more emotional in the first Frenchie scene when he's like you know really  professing his love or expounding upon love to Sage and I was like oh not as emotionally in tune  this episode and then that was the moment where I was like oh my god I'm getting emotional and  I don't know why. Uh, and then of course the the Frenchy thing. Although I think the thing  that gave me the greatest rush of emotion was uh realizing this universe's adherence to having  all telepathic characters baldheaded. They're all the same bald which makes me want to go back  to the wall cuz I'm like I bet they put an Eric Krypkkey face up there somewhere just to be  cheeky about it. Like I was like is he going to show up in the background as one of these? That's  very fun. It's probably like antenna that throws off. Yeah, like like a TV static. Like I would  I that's one of those silly things where like I would kill for just a oneoff line. Maybe there  has been one and I'm just forgetting now about why they all can just not do hair. Um but yeah,  and then Soldier Boy and Homelander and uh him just wanting to f off and you know be alone and uh  you know him bottling them back up. Fascinating. I like Homelanders freaking theme park. I felt for  the GenV kids that scene really kind of did feel uh meta in a way because it felt like they  showed up on the boys and they're like, "Cool, your scene's done." They're like, "What? We've  been hyped up. You told everyone to watch our freaking show. We're not going to participate in  this episode." And then you also mentioned like, "Wait, what? We're not even going to continue  our own show." So, it was nice to see the two of them. Uh, and I'm glad that they get to do  the whole like we will found the little refugee camp that Logan brings X23 to, you know, that'll  be great. Um, so but yeah, uh, this this I don't know. It's fascinating because I thought this is  one of the stronger seasons thus far, and it's me, too. First and last are to me the best season so  far. Yeah, I would agree with that. And I feel like this season for me has returned to a sense of  focus, which is ironic if yeah, if a lot of people are complaining of filler. Um, but yeah, I don't  know. Especially the way things are moving. It just feels like there is no more time to waste and  like [ __ ] is just going to hit the fan and and now there feels like a different kind of danger. I  lost a little bit of the danger in three and four and now the danger feels tangible again. Going  from like the a train death at the top now over to here. And these moments, I like that they're still  able to get me in positions where I'm like wishing characters would choose better, even though the  whole point is they just cannot help themselves.

[00:55:33]Ashley, like how sad. I feel like Ash's going to  live. Ashley's going to live and be punished to be alone. Like the deeper that 40second video,  the deep like oh so sad, dude. Samuel Jackson is the shark. I can't believe it took three lines of  dialogue till I clocked it, but I was such great celebrity voice cameo. Like that is so perfect.  Yeah. Yeah, that was really fun. Like again, shouts out to all the deep stuff cuz it's like  it's so cringy and painful, but like commitment like Chase Crawford like to commit to that is,  you know, good good work. It cannot be flattering to be that guy. Um but yeah, here's hoping the  GenV kids get to help out. Next time we get a dual Soldier Boy, Kimico Blaster Rooney. It's one  episode left of the boys. See, that's the weird thing is this felt like a really good really to me  again very focused season with a lot of m momentum and I can sense a finale coming but at the same  time I do have that feeling of like [ __ ] how are they going to cover what is going to cap off  this world. Yeah, cuz I mean in an hour the V1 is the highest stakes and obviously this episode  is is just building to a giant finale but do we know the runtime? I don't I know it's getting a  theatrical release which makes me very happy. So, it's got to be 90 minutes. Yeah. I mean, they're  getting a theatrical and and it's sold out in minutes, which makes me happy. It doesn't have to  be. Um, I'm really curious how they can wrap up as much as they have. And also, if it feels like  it's the end or if it's the end of The Boys, like, is this going to be a thing where we get a prequel  show with Soulj Boys or something where it's like Gen V was going to be post the boys? You know what  I mean? Soulja Boy definitely going to be post the boys. So that's what I mean like they might  not feel like an ending of the universe. Goes back in time to put the stones back. That's where  Vault Rising begins. And it's like a big old or a Boris and he's Nomad Boy. He's nomad. Someone else  has the shield. See, cuz he doesn't use it since Homelander fixed it. Put it back together cuz he  doesn't care about all this [ __ ] right? There's no more seven. That thing with Oh, father. Pretty  chilling. That opening song was so funny watching.

[00:57:41]They keep doing this to me where I'm like, are  you going to realize or or allow yourself to think this? No, probably not. But they're putting  down Jesus in order to elevate Homelander.

[00:57:51]So funny. Well, and that's something that I feel  like, you know, that's that is going to test the boundaries of a lot of viewers even beyond your  political leanings, is like they're laying, it's weird. They're laying down blasphemy at the same  time the characters are like cooking people for blasphemy. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think that's part  of what it's either conscious or subconscious, but I think a lot of people's aversion of the season  is maybe they just feel slighted and so it's like externalizing that in another way. Like I hate  the writing and it's like I feel persecuted. Like there there could be a feeling that maybe people  don't even realize what they don't like. But I I think filler is wrong. Like I I don't understand  that as an actual credible argument, especially with how dense every episode has been. Yeah. Uh  I but I get how like character oriented we've we barely stopped to have a weird sex interlude  and even when we do it's brief and something else is happening that's important and it leads to  character moments like even the weirdest sex cat dog thing leads to a cat dog fight or even like  Yeah. It's like if you have like a little moment here I'm like this just the boys. Yeah. Like  people were bitching about the um that's one one one image I saw going around about the um sorry  I'm totally blanking on the dog's name terror on terror's uh moment and while we while we were here  being like I thought that would have been stronger or like taking a different perspective people like  [ __ ] this image of homeland or filler I'm like it's just [ __ ] boys it's the boys [ __ ] around  the [ __ ] what season of boys is every moment of the boys is constant just [ __ ] momentum forward  that's boring you need the feeling of this to make the highs won't feel high if it's all high  and like this is also comedy. It's a satire and and having terror made so many comic fans happy  and it's also a character that's like we haven't had that perspective and we even talked about the  nuances of the boys getting to act as themselves because the dog POV so even that element wasn't  filler. Uh I I don't know the internet was a mistake. Um it's an interesting line they get  to walk because from what I understand they are not just doing the source material but it seems  like they do enough to definitely not do it. They have deviated so far him sitting behind like we  both had a moment in the White House where that was exciting because that is the end of the but  that's about all this episode was that feature to the end of the boys. It seems like they have an  interesting line that they're able to walk with lacing in stuff where it's like if you know the  comics, you're like, "Oh, cool. They don't not care, you know, but uh but yeah, I I understand  people some people like the show better than the comic." I Oh, I like the comic. And and all love  to Derek Robertson, but I think everyone agrees.

[01:00:21]99% of people think the show is better than the  comic. The comic is very This not a It's an offic of it. Kind of an off-putting comic, honestly.  I think I think I think Derrick's a producer on this. So, I think Derek is very happy that  people love the boys TV show. Almost no heart.

[01:00:38]It makes this look like a warm fuzzy like Nicholas  Sparks. It is so cynical and angry cuz it's it's a reflection of a reflection of cynicism. Like  it's a turducken of cynicism. It is a turduckan.

[01:00:50]We got a turducken in here. We have Paula in  here. So many things for us. I I liked this episode a lot. I definitely feel like I I don't  know if it's a hollowess like Greg was describing, but I definitely am having a hard time. I think  that death hit me enough that I'm having a hard time being cogent. Like that feels nice to be  impacted so much. Love does. It's it disrupts you.

[01:01:10]It's unpredictable. You're mourning Frenchie.  I know how much we love the Koi name drop, but it's about the show. And I think what's really  beautiful about this show is every time I've I've met a member of the cast or gone on a set visit  or any of the things that are professional, this cast is impossibly close. So, I think there's  something to like the human experience of seeing these. It's long form, but these people have grown  together at a such a level. And so like you feel that chemistry even in like little subconscious  ticks and things. And I've seen Tor Capone with Karen Fukahara as like someone protecting her  going into a party. Like we went to a party at Comic-Con and like there was a a line of people  that got a little aggressive and I saw Tor like be defensive of her and that really struck me  in my mind of like they're so close and that was such a comic moment of like he he Frenchie  protecting the female but in life I was like man that's a really beautiful moment of how a cast can  come together. So, I think there's an element of like the human part of what I love about playing  a character for 10 years and also the exaggerated nature of the boys and the exaggerated nature  of of of satire allowing these these emotions to feel heightened even like I don't think a a  dead silent soba could have worked season one with like out us connecting to them to the sed  level. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, props to them for ending on that note cuz yeah, they let that  breathe. Let the silence ring and uh and all we can do is wait with baited breath till next week.  Do you have any name drops you need to work in G?
