[00:00:10]Another Okay, another trip to the garden center.

[00:00:42]I need way more perennials for my big flower bed. Uh, I don't have nearly enough. And I should have started growing some flowers from seed in the spring, but I'm new to this, so I didn't really I didn't know that I needed to do that uh like a month ago. I'm going to pick up some some good kind of like shrubby looking plants just to fill out the back of the flower bed and then some uh taller flowers. I basically want to make it like a cut garden. And then I could use some hostas and what else? I need way more soil. I need some more manure.

[00:01:23]Yeah, I'm lacking supplies and my car is very small. So, I might just end up having to drive with soil on my lap or like plants on my lap or something. Um, yeah. Or I'll potentially do two trips to the garden center. We will see. But I have big plans. I'm feeling very motivated today cuz it's like 21 outside. It's so beautiful. So, I'm just going to just going to be out in the garden. I'm going to film it all and show you What am I doing?

[00:03:20]We're going to get a coffee as per usual. And then I think we might do some thrifting cuz I'm trying to find some little bits and bobs for the spare bedroom. I just want it to look like a cute nice room. And currently looks a little bit dumpy. I'm thinking of getting some art. And then we'll see what little kind of like trinkety things I can find for in there.

[00:03:42]Maybe some curtains would be nice if I could thrift those. I might drag him to a garden center with me because I had these raised flower beds made by somebody on Facebook Marketplace. I initially was just going to try to make them myself because it didn't seem overly complicated, but then I saw this listing for custom flower beds and this guy was able to make them in like 4 days. So, I just figured I would get him to make them. So, I had six made and they're pretty big. The biggest ones are like 6 ft long, 2 ft wide, and then I think they're like 2 ft off the ground.

[00:04:13]So, I want to get some vegetables to plant in those. Just like some tomatoes, some peppers, and then some herbs. And then I do need to do like a little bit of landscaping in the back. I need to put down grass seed and whatever. So, kind of a big thrifting gardening day is what I have in mind. Keith, >> good. How's it going?

[00:06:32]We just got back from the thrift store.

[00:06:33]I didn't have quite as much luck with furniture and stuff as I hoped I would, but I found this cute little ceramic tealight holder, which I think is kind of the perfect colors for the spare room because I'm wanting to do some blues and pinks and reds. And then I also found this a good little print. It isn't framed, but maybe I would put a frame on it. I don't know. I actually kind of like it as is. And just has a hook on the back. Uh, and then I also found just a bandana, which I will wash before wearing so I don't get head lice. Uh, yeah. I'm thinking the rest of the afternoon I'll probably just get into the garden and do some weeding cuz I think it's finally sunny enough that I can actually start planting. So, yeah, if I get all the weeding done and I put the new soil in, then maybe I can put some plants in.

[00:10:33]>> While I've been gardening, I've been listening to Lena Dunham's new memoir, Famesick. If you are also a big fan of girls like me, uh you should absolutely I would say listen to the audio book just because Lena Dunham narrates it herself, but I'm sure the physical book is also fantastic. I've watched Girls like three times.

[00:10:54]Oh, what's up? Well, I think John just got home from a run, so I am super excited. Anyway, yeah, just like truly a fantastic book. Um, if you're interested in kind of like 2010, 2012 New York indie filmmakers like, well, I mean, now they're all household names like the Sappy Brothers and Greta Gerwig and tons of other people. Those were all the people that Lena Dunham was kind of coming up with when she finished Tiny Furniture, her movie, and then started Girls. So, that's super interesting. I had no idea that she had endometriosis.

[00:11:31]Like I knew nothing about her illnesses and just how while she was working on girls that was obviously super difficult cuz she was dealing with like crazy crazy medical issues. It just makes me feel so sorry for her. I not to be that person that's like I never thought she was annoying. I've always liked her because now she's kind of having this renaissance, but I truly have never understood why people found her annoying or like called her an entitled millennial. Um, I guess it's kind of because she's like in a way sort of a Nepo baby, but like not really. Her parents didn't work in TV. They were artists. I just didn't understand why people always had such awful things to say about her in particular. It was always like really mean things like people would say that she has an annoying voice. People also sometimes say that I have an annoying voice. So maybe that's why I don't think that she has an annoying voice. Or people would say that she's fat and that she's ugly and just like crazy crazy horrible things that lots of people say about women in Hollywood. But Lena Dunham in particular, people have been so mean about her and I just think she's really funny and awesome and I think that you should read her memoir. It's really good.

[00:13:40]I just got such an exciting email. I guess I thought that I had to wait until July to register for my classes, but it turns out because I'm going to be in a premasters program, the course registration is a little bit different.

[00:13:53]So, I'll mostly be in really small seminars, there'll be about six people total. And so I guess I just have to email a prof and tell the prof which classes I want to be in. But I thought I would tell you some of the ones that I'm really excited about.

[00:14:08]There's one. It's called Reagan's America and Thatcher's Britain. I think that'll just be a really interesting kind of education on British politics and American politics, which I don't really know a ton about. I think it'll also probably be like pretty frustrating, but we'll see. And then the one that I'm most excited for is the history of black markets. That one I think will be awesome and probably quite disturbing as well, I would imagine. And then just some archival studies specific classes, which I think will be cool. I'm very excited to be in those. So, I'm just really looking forward to being back in school. I definitely feel like I need a change and I need something to look forward to. Uh, yeah. Okay, how do I put this? I absolutely love making YouTube videos. I love all of the creative aspects of this job so so much. I still every day I'm so shocked by just how lucky I am to have the flexible the flexibility to make my own schedule. I can travel essentially whenever I would like to. I am like the amount of things that you're just sent when you work in social media is crazy.

[00:15:27]Just like an abundance of product, which is absolutely nuts. Too much for one person, too much for like five people, honestly. It's absolutely ridiculous.

[00:15:38]So, in so so many ways, I am so lucky. I also have kind of been noticing this shift when especially just in these comments and messages that I get about my videos and I've been noticing it kind of since John and I bought our house and I think it makes a lot of sense in a way. The vast majority of people cannot afford to buy a house. We are so immensely lucky to have been able to purchase our own home. I don't know if a lot of people know that we live in Winnipeg where the housing market is pretty dramatically different than it is in other cities, but even still a lot of my friends, actually the vast majority of my friends do not own homes. Like we are we are so unbelievably lucky and it's it's very crazy to own a home. and I am 28 turning 29.

[00:16:41]So that's something I never thought I would really be able to do just because I always assumed that I would work in a creative industry or I would still be doing hair where a lot of the stylists that worked in the salon that I worked at hadn't even bought their own homes.

[00:16:56]So I just didn't think that purchasing a home was going to be something I would do before I was like 40. I also have a massive student loan from when I did hair. Uh hair school was like the most expensive.

[00:17:12]Like holy It was that was a crazy thing to have done. Sorry, I'm like very all over the place with this, but okay.

[00:17:18]Anyway, I just have been noticing that since we bought our house, a lot of people will send me these messages and make these comments about how my videos are no longer relatable or people just think that I'm really out of touch. And you know what? Maybe I am. Uh I don't know that that's something that you can recognize in yourself, but this job just opens you up to so much criticism.

[00:17:45]That's just the nature of it.

[00:17:48]But I think as somebody who deals with some intense mental health issues that is really not good for me.

[00:17:59]Uh just being so open to so much scrutiny has yeah just like naturally taken its toll and it's made me not want to share my life nearly as much. Yeah.

[00:18:12]People online are so emboldened by anonymity and can be so cruel and make so many assumptions. I just don't really see myself being able to handle that much longer in a way that is healthy.

[00:18:31]So, I think I just need to be working towards a career that is outside of social media. This was never supposed to be a full-time job. It was kind of just supposed to be something I would do in between my undergrad and my masters. And then because I was able to travel so much, I just kept doing it and doing it.

[00:18:51]And now I think it's time to start curating a little bit of an exit plan.

[00:18:56]And I um am not telling you this cuz I expect anybody to feel bad for me. That is not why I'm talking about this. Every time I go to upload a YouTube video, I just think about the number of people that are going to be picking apart everything that I do. And you obviously can't please everybody. That's a cliche for a reason, but it's very anxietyinducing to just know that no matter what you do or say, there will be people out there who are going to criticize you. And I just want to work in an archive and have a normal job where my personality isn't up for criticism. Like my I'm happy to have my work ethic criticized. Yeah. I just I don't think that it's healthy to be reading so much about yourself from other people's perspectives or you just have to have incredibly tough skin, which I do not. I'm far too sensitive.

[00:20:00]So, I don't know. This is not to say that I am quitting YouTube or anything, but it has definitely been taking a little bit of a toll. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

[00:20:16]I've just finished up all of my laptop work for the day. So, I'm going to put on my gardening clothes. I'm going to head outside and I'm going to pull up all of the paving stones that we currently have cuz we just picked up some new ones from Home Depot last night. And I'm hoping I can move all of them myself. I'm sure it'll be fine, but they're they're a little heavy. I also need to level the ground a bit. Going to be a bit of a a grubby afternoon, but I'm excited. I think they're going to look really good.

[00:20:52]Okay, those are way heavier than I thought. I thought they'd maybe be like 50 lb. I think they're more like a hundred.

[00:20:59]And I don't know if I can move all of them. It's like I need a dolly or something or I just need John to do it cuz he's way stronger than me. But I might try to do like one or two more.

[00:21:12]I'm scared I'm going to throw out my back.

[00:21:53]John's mom is coming to stay with us for a few days, so I'm attempting to make the guest room look a little bit cute.

[00:21:59]It's definitely a work in progress, but I think some bedding and then if I just add some flowers to the room and a couple cute little trinkety things, then it'll look a bit more cozy. I think some flowers on this dresser would definitely go a long way. I could put some books and maybe more flowers on the bedside table. It's the same day. I've just changed my top and I'm actually now noticing that I'm having the same issue.

[00:22:23]Uh the tank top I was wearing before was not leaving much to the imagination.

[00:22:28]This top not doing a lot better. It's quite sheer. Anyway, sorry.

[00:22:34]I picked up a whole bunch of flowers, so I'm going to put them in voses to put in my bedroom and then also at the front door. This coffee is a few hours old.

[00:22:43]Maybe I'll put an ice cube in it.

[00:23:14]I just have to wait for the duvet cover to come out of the wash and then I'll put it on the bed. And I'm kind of thinking that my next big home project will be this room. I'm wanting to take down the blinds in here and get some are they called Roman blinds? Like the ones that they're not curtains, they're like I'll insert a photo. I don't know how to explain what I'm talking about. You guys gave me such good ideas for kind of like a DIY wallpaper situation cuz like I said in my previous video, the wallpaper that I was going to get is really expensive. And then I was thinking of making a stencil of it, but I'm thinking what I'll do is I'll make a stamp. Like I'll lino cut a stamp and then I'll get one of those grid projectors. Then I can just stamp all the little flower designs onto the walls. And then if I want to, I can add some details and like hand paint some of the flowers if I want. But that might be like the hand painting would be maybe more of a winter project. And for now, this summer, I would just do the stamping. But I think that would be really nice. We also just need a new coat of paint in here anyway because the walls are super beat up. I'm just looking at some crazy marks on the walls. They look so nuts. Uh but yeah, once the door is done and the walls are painted, I think it's going to be really nice in here. And then I'll slowly continue collecting things like an actual bedside table for beside the bed.

[00:24:43]And I think maybe we need a mirror in here.

[00:24:47]Like this is just a blank wall, so we should put something on that wall. Yeah, it has a lot of potential. This room gets such good sunlight. It has three pretty big windows. Well, I guess that one's actually kind of small, but two big windows and then that window. So, yeah, it could be a really nice bedroom.

[00:25:22]John and I are about to go and see a scary movie, which makes me nervous because I'm a Freddy cat, but I do really want to eat popcorn, so it's worth it. It's actually not even the movie that I think is going to be scary. It's always the trailers. The trailers before you see a scary movie are always so terrifying. And that part I don't like. But I'm going to try to be brave.
