My Greatest Performance Ever With Juxtaposition! (CMRC Robot Conflict April 2026 Event Report)

[00:00:00]Hello everyone. This is Kikoto Manete from Team Get Wreck Robotics. I am also a part of the WPI Combat Robotics Club.

[00:00:12]In this video, we'll be going over how juxosition performed at the April 2026 CMRC Robot Conflict Competition.

[00:00:22]JXupposition was mostly the same from the last time it fought at the April 2026 NHL event. The only things I changed was redesigning the forks to remove the barbs as they were causing too many problems and making sure I had brand new freshly molded wheels this time. Overall, this would be the second outing for this new version of Japosition [music] and I was very excited to see how it would do. As mentioned before, I would be fighting at the CMRC Robot Conflict event. The format for this competition would involve every robot getting two qualifying matches. Then the 32 robots who performed the best would qualify for a single elimination bracket where they would fight against each other in each round until only one robot remains as the champion. My first qualifying match would be against a horizontal spinner named Buzz Fightyear. I'll be switching to my anti-h horizontal configuration.

[00:01:20]And my goal is simply to keep my titanium wedge pointed towards him at all times. Now, let's get into positions first by the event.

[00:04:46]>> Honestly, that fight could not have gone better. Buzz Fightear's horizontal spinner broke immediately the first time I hit my wedge. After that, there's pretty much nothing they could do to fight back, especially since their forks also got bent up and were no longer riding the floor. From there, all I needed to do was get underneath Buzz's fight ear using my wedge and then use my spinner to slice into them. I was able to do this multiple times and I did a decent amount of damage. Specifically, I took a large chunk out of one of his wheel guards. Overall, Juck's position was able to dominate the entire fight, allowing him to easily win a decision.

[00:05:23]Certainly a great start to the event. My second qualifying fight would be against Termination Shock, a powerful hammersaw robot. Termination Shock is built by Alex, one of my friends who's also part of team WPI. I've actually already fought him before. Funny enough, the last time I competed at CMRC back in September of last year, I fought Termination Shock twice with my other beetleweight, the power of friendship.

[00:05:51]We first fought in the qualifying round where Termination Shock easily won by ripping both robots apart. Later on in that same event, we met again in the bracket. This time, the Power of Friendship was the winner. But if we're being honest, I feel like the only reason we won was because Termination Shock was struggling with random electrical issues. I really don't think we would have won otherwise. So overall, this would be my third time fighting Termination Shock. In order to prepare, I switched over to my anti- hammers saw configuration where my AR500 forks will be replaced with aluminum forks. This would give me the extra weight necessary to add more top armor in the form of large TPU blocks to try and stop the hammer saw. Will this be enough to defeat Termination Shock? Let's find out now.

[00:10:01]If you couldn't already tell by how I was talking during the fight, I did not have a lot of confidence during this [music] match and I was very scared of what Termination Shock could do to me.

[00:10:11]However, this fight ended up being a lot more even than I was expecting. I was able to get several good pins on Termination Shock and in general I was able to showcase a good amount of control and aggression against him, but Termination Shock was also able to do the same. He also got a few good hits on me with that hammer saw. Fortunately for me, my armor held up great, which prevented me from taking significant damage. That is until while I was ramming him into the wall, Termination Shock was able to clip my hub motor and disconnect a phase wire, which completely disabled my spinner for the rest of the fight. Luckily, I still had my lifter arm and I was able to use it to continue fighting back against Termination Shock. We tussled some more until the fight ends where the judges give the victory to Termination Shock and I agree that he deserved the win.

[00:10:57]With this loss, I ended the qualifiers at 1 and one. Fortunately, even with a record of one win and one loss, JX position still performed well enough to qualify for the single elimination bracket. My first bracket fight would be in the round of 32. And I actually be fighting another one of my friends from WPI, Corin and [music] his beetleweight, Peril, which is a four-wheel drive egg beater. Despite being a new robot, Peril went 2 and 0 in qualifiers and proved itself to be a very destructive robot.

[00:11:29]So, I was actually pretty worried going to this matchup. My main strategy was to keep my front pulling towards peril and use my fork to deflect the egg beater.

[00:11:36]With all that out of the way, let's get into the fight.

[00:14:54]Now, that was an action-packed fight. As I was hoping, my forks did a great job of defending me against Peril's Egg Beater. In fact, there were several moments where I was able to deflect his weapon altogether and make him bounce out of control. Furthermore, I'm not highly sure why, but Peril started to have some drive issues and was having trouble moving. However, that doesn't change the fact that Peril's weapon is still very dangerous, and he proved this by getting in a hit that once again broke one of my phase wires and disabled my vertical spinner. However, if there's one thing to know about Chuck's position is that it's a control bot first and a spinner second. Overall, I was able to utilize positions controlbot aspects very effectively. [music] I was able to flip her over several times using my lifter. And as mentioned before, my forks proved to be very useful as I continue to jam them into Peril's weapon and make him bounce all over the arena.

[00:15:48]However, Peril was still able to get some incredible hits in and send J position flying in the air. Fortunately, Jucks position was durable enough to survive those hits and continue to go on the counterattack. Eventually, the fight goes to the judges. And fortunately, even with my vertical spirit disabled, I was able to do enough in the eyes of the judges to be awarded the victory. With this win, J position moves on to the next round. My next fight would be in the round of 16, and I'll be fighting a vertical spinner named Anubis. Like Peril, Anubis has a powerful egg beater as its weapon. However, news has a lot more experience and recently it's been doing very well at other events and has proven itself to be a real threat. Can Jug position defeat this dangerous opponent? Let's find out now.

[00:17:28]I was not expecting this fight to go that well at all. Almost immediately into the match, a news lost half its drive system. And I have no idea if this because of damage I did in our first exchange or something else entirely.

[00:17:41]However, I still had to be careful when engaging for Anubis as his egg beater was still a threat and there were a few times where that weapon was able to smack check position into the air.

[00:17:50]Fortunately for me, Anubis' egg beater eventually stops working, which gives me the perfect opportunity for an attack. I got a really good hit, which put a nasty cut into the back of Anubis. I was honestly impressed by how well my spinner sliced through his armor. After that, I got new flipped over, which allowed me to start attacking his bottom panel and cut into it. [music] I kept doing this until the builder of a new taps out, giving JX position the victory.

[00:18:19]With this win, I moved on to the quarterfinals where I'd be having a rematch with Termination Shock. Man, if I had a nickel for every time I fought Termination Shock in the qualifying round of a CMRC event, only to then fight it again in the bracket of that same competition, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's amazing it happened twice. Anyways, I would be using the same configuration as before, except this time I'll be using one of my old aluminum forks [music] from the previous design of Chuck's position.

[00:18:51]Those forks were designed to prop the opponent high off the ground. The idea was that this fork config would make it harder for Termination Shock to gain its footing [music] and make it more difficult for it to land a shot.

[00:19:02]Josition may have been defeated by Termination Shock earlier, but will it be able to redeem itself in this rematch? Let's find out now.

[00:19:42]Oh yeah.

[00:22:15]At this point, [music] I would consider Termination Shock to be my greatest rival, as whenever we get matched up against each other, Alex always puts up a good fight. Like last time, it seemed both bots were pretty evenly matched. I was able to get underneath and control Termination Shock a few times, [music] but he was also able to land some nice shots with his hammer saw. However, around a minute into the fight, Termination Shock spinner stopped working.

[00:22:41]>> [music] >> Apparently, I was able to get a lucky hit on his hub motor, which caused it to seize up, but that did not stop Termination Shock from showing a lot of aggression. Even without the spinner, he still to put up a good fight. He had me on the rope several times. Fortunately, Jesus was still able to keep up the pressure on Termination Shock, and I got some great pins in. Both robots continue to fight hard against each other until the very end. The time runs out, and it goes to the judges. We were told that the judge's decision was very close and could have gone either way. But against all odds, J's position just barely managed to take the victory.

[00:23:15]With that win, I was now in the semifinals. However, things were not going to get any easier for me. If I thought Termination Shock was a dangerous hammer saw, then things were only going to get worse, as I would now be fighting the wall part two. [music] This robot has a powerful hammer saw that's perfect for cutting into its opponents. It's also a shuffler, meaning it gets a weight bonus and weighs 4.5 lbs instead of just 3 lb. But if you've been following NHL, then you already know exactly who The Wall is. The Wall is not just one of the best beaweight hammer saws in the sport right now. It's also one of the best beatweights around, period.

[00:23:53]Not only is it a past Golden Dumpster winner, but at time of recording, [music] it is the number one ranked three-pound robot at NHRL. So yeah, needless to say, I did not have high hopes for this matchup, and I was fully expecting to have my run end here. But hey, I might as well try. I kept J position in its anti-Hammersaw configuration from the last fight, and I got the robot ready for its biggest challenge yet. Does J position stand a chance against this legendary opponent?

[00:24:22]Let's find out. Now, >> this fight, this is our final fight. We begin in five, four, three, two, one.

[00:26:09]I cannot believe.

[00:26:14]>> As mentioned before, I was fully expecting to lose this fight. At first, it seemed that my fears would be realized when about 30 seconds into the fight, the wall was able to get a hit that cut one of the phase wires to my hub motor, which disabled my weapon. It also seems this hit reset something as Jug straight up dies for about 6 seconds, and I thought the fight was over. But somehow the bot magically comes to life before it can be counted out. If that wasn't already lucky enough, after this, the wall starts to have major drive issues. From what I've been told, the wall shuffling feet fuse together after rubbing against each other too fast. This normally isn't an issue as the builder usually lubricates his shuffling feet before each match, but apparently he forgot to do so before our fight. With the wall unable to show controlled movement, he is counted out.

[00:27:06]And somehow in a fight that went from it's so over to we're so back, Jug Edition wins by KO, meaning it would move on to the grand final.

[00:27:17]After that very lucky win, I was now in the grand final. And this was really special as I've never made it this far in any competition before. My final opponent would be a four-wheel drive vertical spinner named Captain Chaos. If this robot looks familiar, that's because it's from the same team as Sad Octopus, a top tier beetle. In fact, Sad Octopus was the champion of the last CMRC competition, and Captain Chaos was essentially a recolor of that exact version. Captain Chaos is a well-driven, durable, and destructive vertical spinner, and it had been destroying robots one by one, which is how it made it to the grand final. I knew this fight would not be easy, but I was ready to give it my all in this final matchup.

[00:28:06]After fighting two hammers saws in a row, I was finally able to switch back to my normal configuration, which was specifically designed to take down vertical spinners, and this would be its greatest test. This is Jux Position's final obstacle. Only one fight stands between it [music] and the championship.

[00:32:07]YEAH, that may just be one of the greatest fights I have ever been a part of.

[00:32:21]Captain Chaos lost a drive belt pretty much immediately, but since its drive sides are back driven, this only had a minimal effect on its overall drive system. I do everything I possibly can to ensure I keep the forks pointing towards Captain Chaos, and those forks do a great job of getting underneath them. I'm able to win pretty much every head-to-head engagement. And at one point, I was able to get behind Captain Chaos and attack the top panel. I specifically designed the lifter arm with an opening for the spinner at the bottom to make this possible. So, I was really proud of this moment. However, Captain Chaos was certainly no pushover, and she proved this by hitting JSON's weapon hub motor directly and breaking it. Obviously, this was a huge setback for me. [music] But at this point, I know for a fact that JX position doesn't need a spinner to win fights, and I fall back to being the best control bot I can be. JX position is able to spend the rest of the fight using both its lifter and forks [music] to control Captain Chaos while being as aggressive as possible. During this, Captain Chaos does deliver several large hits to J's position, but the robot is able to survive the hits every time. No matter what, J position never gave up and continue to fight back against Captain Chaos until the match goes to the judges. Despite the damage Jupposition sustained, it seems that the control and aggression I showcased was enough for the judges to give me the victory, meaning Jux position is the winner of the grand final and is the champion of the April 2026 CMRC competition.

[00:33:56]And with that, Japosition's championship run at CMRC has come to an end. I'm going to be honest with you guys, I still can't believe I actually won. I've been in this sport for years and I never thought I'd see the day I actually get first place in an event, especially at an event with so many other amazing robots. Jug position has always been an experimental bot for me. It was designed to be something competitive while also still being unique and [music] interesting. It took many different revisions and so much trial and error learning from my mistakes so I could improve it. But it finally showed what it was capable of. You know, the reason why Josition is named the way it is is because you normally wouldn't expect a bright pink robot with googly eyes to be a real threat, but Josition proved it is a robot capable of doing great things.
