ALL AMAZING SECRETS You MISSED in Despicable Me 4!ππ£Added:
Despicable Me is one of the best franchises Illumination Studios has ever [music] produced, and its latest film, released 2 years ago, hides a lot of nods and references to other studio works. For example, did you know that Dr. Nefario's mom is actually the same old lady who serves as the principal of the villain school? Not only that, but there are also hidden Easter eggs and theories that could connect The Lorax [music] to the Despicable Me universe.
I'm also going to show you the hidden clue that links Despicable Me 4 to one of Marvel's biggest superheroes, Spider-Man. So, if you're a true fan of Gru and the Minions, >> [music] >> make sure to hit that subscribe button, turn on notifications, and show your support by liking this video. Now, let's get started.
>> Well, hello, little one. Is your daddy home?
>> Number one, let's talk about Principal Ubelchlect. If you still had any doubts about her origins, this detail pretty much confirms everything. When Gru and his team enter her office with the help of Gru Jr., you can spot a framed picture showing the school's strict principal [music] standing right next to her beloved son, Dr. Nefario himself.
This tiny detail reveals that Principal Ubelchlect is actually Dr. Nefario's mother, something that almost completely went unnoticed by most viewers.
Considering how strange and over-the-top both characters are, it honestly explains a lot about where Nefario got his personality from.
Number two, another fascinating detail is hidden inside Principal Ubelchlect's office. If you pay close attention to one of the paintings hanging on the wall, you'll notice a man wearing a green hat.
>> [music] >> At first glance, it may not seem important, but many fans quickly noticed that he looks surprisingly similar to the Once-ler from The Lorax. Now, Illumination never officially confirmed this connection, but the resemblance is definitely hard to ignore. If it really is the Once-ler, that opens up a very interesting question. Was he a former student of the villain school, or was he actually one of its teachers?
Considering the damage he caused in The Lorax by cutting down an entire forest for profit, it's safe to say he would fit right in among some of the world's greatest villains. Number three, continuing with the amazing hidden details in the film, there's one that feels like a playful jab at one of Illumination's biggest competitors. Take a look at the villain school and tell me this castle doesn't look strangely similar to Disney's iconic castle. The towers, the overall shape, and the grand design all feel very familiar. Of course, it could just be a coincidence, but many fans think the resemblance is way too obvious to ignore. If that's really what the animators intended, then Illumination might be joining DreamWorks in the tradition of sneaking little jokes and references aimed at Disney.
Whether it was intentional or not, it's still a funny detail to spot. And honestly, I love seeing these little friendly rivalries between animation studios hidden inside their movies.
Number four, in the scene where Gru is heading to meet his former villain school classmates, [music] we see him driving that powerful car.
When we look at his license plate, we notice it has a certain significance.
>> [music] >> It reads DM9710.
DM stands for Despicable Me, which is the original title of the movie in the USA.
>> [music] >> And 09710 is the official release date of the first movie, which was July [music] 9th, 2010. Number five, now speaking about the Mega Minions.
>> [music] >> If you're a fan of older superhero movies, you might have noticed a clear reference to the second Spider-Man film released 20 years ago. The homage appears in the scene where a Mega Minion uses his elastic body to stop a beating train and save all the passengers. This moment is almost identical to the iconic scene in Spider-Man 2 where Peter Parker uses multiple webs to hold a train together and prevent it from crashing after Doctor Octopus causes the derailment. But that's not the only Spider-Man 2 reference hidden in the film. During the scene where the five Minions enter the lab and are transformed into Mega Minions, the mechanical arms that place them into the capsules move in a way that feels almost alive. This is a subtle nod to Dr. Octopus himself, whose four robotic tentacles also act like independent living beings throughout the movie.
Number six. In the scene [music] where we see a green van parked in the background, and we notice something very interesting about its license plate. 7 WLM 882. [music] As we know that nothing in animated films is random, we tried breaking it down into a possible hidden meaning.
Seven could be a reference to the year Illumination was founded, which was 2007. [music] W may point to the Universal symbol, the globe, since Universal distributes the studio's films. L could represent Los Angeles, where the studio's headquarters are located. And [music] M might be a tribute to Illumination's founder, Chris Meledandri. As for the remaining numbers, 882, we're still not completely sure what they represent, but they could be another layered reference hidden by the animators. If you have any theories about this license plate, let us know in the comments. We'd love to hear your ideas.
Number seven. Throughout the first three Despicable Me movies, we saw that Margo always wore a different logo on her black T-shirt that referenced [music] some of the major symbols of Illumination, the same animation company behind Gru and the Minions. First, we saw the girl wearing a T-shirt with a symbol of the Lorax, one of the company's early films. Then in the sequel, we saw the girl change it up a bit and wear the symbol of a Japanese comedy series called Wan Dan. And in the third movie, she wears a T-shirt featuring the character who hates Christmas, the Grinch. And now in the fourth film, most people thought it would be a random symbol, but that's not the case. The print on her T-shirt is actually a big reference to the clothing brand Brain Dead, which has released several clothing pieces in partnership with Illumination. Number eight. Now, let's talk about one of the most patriotic references in Despicable Me.
[music] When we see Bob and Stuart in the pool at the very beginning of the trailer, if you pause and look closely, you'll notice something really clever in Bob's design. [music] His outfit, combined with his float, actually mirrors the United States flag. The swimsuit features a blue section with stars, while the float adds the red and white striped pattern underneath.
Whether it's red with white stripes or white with red stripes can be a bit confusing at first glance, but together the whole design clearly resembles the American flag. Number nine. Another small detail confirming all this is [music] Gru's new much more high-class style. For instance, when he's next to Margo, we see he's wearing a pink polo shirt. And if you pause the video at the right moment, you'll notice that the shirt is almost an imitation of one of the world's most famous tennis clothing brands, Lacoste, the brand represented by a crocodile. Except instead of a crocodile, we can see another reptile in the logo, a turtle. A clever strategy by Illumination to avoid troubles. Number 10. [music] In the same scene where Lucy and the girls are running, we can spot a small but interesting detail on the shopping cart that many viewers missed. The cart is labeled Mayflower Market, >> [music] >> which is actually the name of the city the family moved to in the film. At first it seems like just background text, but it might actually be a subtle world-building reference connecting the location and the setting together. But what makes this even more interesting is the market's logo. If you look closely, >> [music] >> the symbol looks very similar to the Walmart logo, as it appears like a half sun design.
>> [music] >> This is especially noticeable when you compare it to Walmart's real-life logo, which is often interpreted as a full sun shape. It's a small detail, but it shows how even background props in Despicable [music] Me are packed with hidden references and real-world inspiration.
Number 11. In one of the scene, [music] there are some really fun hidden details inside the villain school moments. For example, when Gru, Poppy and the Minions invade one of the rooms, >> [music] >> we can spot a banner that reads "Keep calm and be nasty." Almost like a welcome message for new students. It's a clever twist that immediately shows this isn't a normal school, but a a designed for villains. And that's not the only message hidden in the background. In another scene where Gru, Poppy, the Minions, and Gru Jr. are escaping from the principal, they pass a motivational banner that says, "Think evil, act worse." It's actually pretty funny when you think about it because it shows how the school literally encourages bad behavior as part of its education system, which also ties into the larger villain world that Gru now has to deal with under the AVL. Number 12. Another funny detail is that it looks like Principal Ubelchlect actually sleeps in a coffin. This small moment really adds to her personality, showing just how unhinged and villain-like she truly is.
Everything about her design, from her strict attitude to her dark office style, already makes her feel like she belongs in a villain world. But, the coffin detail takes it to another level.
It's one of those [music] background jokes that makes you pause for a second because you're not sure if it's serious or just the animators having fun. Either way, it perfectly fits her chaotic energy.
>> I knew you took my Lenny.
Now, hand him over.
