Not only that, but there are also hidden Easter eggs and theories that could connect The Lorax [music] to the Despicable Me universe.

When Gru and his team enter her office with the help of Gru Jr., you can spot a framed picture showing the school's strict principal [music] standing right next to her beloved son, Dr. Nefario himself.

[00:01:04]This tiny detail reveals that Principal Ubelchlect is actually Dr. Nefario's mother, something that almost completely went unnoticed by most viewers.

Now, Illumination never officially confirmed this connection, but the resemblance is definitely hard to ignore. If it really is the Once-ler, that opens up a very interesting question. Was he a former student of the villain school, or was he actually one of its teachers?

[00:01:51]Considering the damage he caused in The Lorax by cutting down an entire forest for profit, it's safe to say he would fit right in among some of the world's greatest villains. Number three, continuing with the amazing hidden details in the film, there's one that feels like a playful jab at one of Illumination's biggest competitors. Take a look at the villain school and tell me this castle doesn't look strangely similar to Disney's iconic castle. The towers, the overall shape, and the grand design all feel very familiar. Of course, it could just be a coincidence, but many fans think the resemblance is way too obvious to ignore. If that's really what the animators intended, then Illumination might be joining DreamWorks in the tradition of sneaking little jokes and references aimed at Disney.

The homage appears in the scene where a Mega Minion uses his elastic body to stop a beating train and save all the passengers. This moment is almost identical to the iconic scene in Spider-Man 2 where Peter Parker uses multiple webs to hold a train together and prevent it from crashing after Doctor Octopus causes the derailment. But that's not the only Spider-Man 2 reference hidden in the film. During the scene where the five Minions enter the lab and are transformed into Mega Minions, the mechanical arms that place them into the capsules move in a way that feels almost alive. This is a subtle nod to Dr. Octopus himself, whose four robotic tentacles also act like independent living beings throughout the movie.

L could represent Los Angeles, where the studio's headquarters are located. And [music] M might be a tribute to Illumination's founder, Chris Meledandri. As for the remaining numbers, 882, we're still not completely sure what they represent, but they could be another layered reference hidden by the animators. Then in the sequel, we saw the girl change it up a bit and wear the symbol of a Japanese comedy series called Wan Dan. And in the third movie, she wears a T-shirt featuring the character who hates Christmas, the Grinch. And now in the fourth film, most people thought it would be a random symbol, but that's not the case. The print on her T-shirt is actually a big reference to the clothing brand Brain Dead, which has released several clothing pieces in partnership with Illumination. Number eight. Now, let's talk about one of the most patriotic references in Despicable Me.

And if you pause the video at the right moment, you'll notice that the shirt is almost an imitation of one of the world's most famous tennis clothing brands, Lacoste, the brand represented by a crocodile. Except instead of a crocodile, we can see another reptile in the logo, a turtle. A clever strategy by Illumination to avoid troubles. Number 10. [music] In the same scene where Lucy and the girls are running, we can spot a small but interesting detail on the shopping cart that many viewers missed. The cart is labeled Mayflower Market, >> [music] >> which is actually the name of the city the family moved to in the film. At first it seems like just background text, but it might actually be a subtle world-building reference connecting the location and the setting together. It's a clever twist that immediately shows this isn't a normal school, but a a designed for villains. And that's not the only message hidden in the background. In another scene where Gru, Poppy, the Minions, and Gru Jr. are escaping from the principal, they pass a motivational banner that says, "Think evil, act worse." It's actually pretty funny when you think about it because it shows how the school literally encourages bad behavior as part of its education system, which also ties into the larger villain world that Gru now has to deal with under the AVL. Number 12. Another funny detail is that it looks like Principal Ubelchlect actually sleeps in a coffin. This small moment really adds to her personality, showing just how unhinged and villain-like she truly is.
