Foss High School staff honored for intervening in violent student stabbing spree本站添加:
Five to come up public schools employees are being hailed as heroes tonight for stepping in during a fight at Foss High School two weeks ago. Four students and a security guard were stabbed by another student on campus. Bond Mulo, Sharice Johnson, David McEachern, Shonte Reed, and Ada Gutierrez are the five staff members who Tacoma police say courageously jumped in to help. Como's Claire Weber shares how they're being honored.
The reality is not everyone responds the way these individuals did that day.
These five Foss High School staff members helped stop a violent stabbing attack from taking a much worse turn.
Four of them now honored with the Medal of Courage for breaking up the student fight and a fifth given the Certificate of Merit for providing life-saving aid to victims.
>> [applause] >> Foss security guard Bond Mulo found himself in the middle of chaos. In the heat of things, I didn't even even realize I was I was hurt. He was stabbed while trying to disarm the student suspect. Looking back, Mulo thanks the strong relationships he's built with Foss students for allowing him to step in. Because of the bond that we have with these kids, and that's what when they see him us breaking up the fight, they just pull back. He and his fellow staff members don't see themselves as heroes. It's what I do. It's what we do. We we help the kids, protect them, keep them safe, make sure they're on the right path. But like Coach Mack, each of the five jumped in without hesitation. An arrest report says the fight started in a school hallway where the student suspect was unknowingly armed with a knife. A situation that could have ended much worse had someone not intervened.
>> If I had to do it tomorrow, I'd do it again. It's just what we do. Claire Weber, Como News.
16-year-old suspect Bali Ade Saki faces multiple assault charges and is being charged as an adult. Investigators say he brought a knife on the campus and used it during that fight. He remains in custody at Reeman Hall with bail set at $750,000.
His trial is set for June 17th.
