Proper HVAC system design requires adequate pipe sizing, appropriate pump selection, and correct material choices to prevent system failures; undersized pipes, oversized pumps, and incompatible materials can cause flow restrictions, short cycling, overheating, and premature component failure in heating and cooling systems.

Bad hotel installAdded:
Hey guys, we're out here at a True Hotel.
Um we're looking at these vent terminations, which turn out to be air intakes or the door fresh air for most mechanical room doors um that you would see at like maybe a restaurant or something like that turned on their side.
Um they're restricting the flow on not only the air intake, but on the exhaust pretty bad.
>> [sighs] >> The exhaust is draining back like it's supposed to be, but they keep replacing these fittings because they put metal in the condensate system. So, these things are corroding out constantly.
Uh they also came down here and they started on most all these units, they put brass fittings on the condensate. So, those are going to start failing soon, too.
And for 14 units, they reduced all the uh uh the condensate drain uh down to 3/4 inch instead of leaving it all at 1.
Um they're having a lot of problems here. So, number one, they got these let's just start on the domestic side, they put this massive circulation pump on a 1-in line pumping through the building.
And the major problem we're having here is these units, these 10 Naviens that you have right here.
Right? So, all of these guys right here what's happening is under load, the system is failing because uh these units are not activating quick enough and uh they're they're short cycling like crazy, uh but under high loads, uh they're they're causing water uh pressure loss throughout the building. So, we've got to do something to figure that out, whether it's storage. Uh these are S model heaters, these are not A model heaters. So, that's part of the problem as well.
Um, I believe [clears throat] what we're going to do is we're going to change these out to Well, the game plan we're going to try to present is change these out to the Vesta VXP's and do the building storage system. So, that way we can leave this as it is, use the building as storage, and we can just do the circulation as a uh pump through.
And as you guys can see right here, the plumbing is pretty okay, but, you know, the wiring is, you know, if you guys know me, I don't like my wiring hanging out like that. It makes the job look like crap.
The other thing we're having an issue with, guys, is we've got leaks on a lot of these fittings for some reason.
Um, the condensates don't have any air uh vents on them, either, uh to help out with the drainage.
>> [clears throat] >> So, uh and also, all these units are set at 124, but these things are spiking as high as 150 on the um uh on uh Sorry.
On the outlet flow temperature, uh this one right now, this one's only showing 128. That's not bad.
Uh, this guy right here, let's see what this guy is doing.
Oh, this one's only 135, but it's going up. 137.
139. 141. So, what's happening is these things are overheating and then they're shutting down constantly.
So, um Yeah, there's a big problem here. So, what they did is they put this big giant 43-100 pump in. Um, I'm not sure if they were trying to get all the units to activate at once, but it's not working.
They restricted the line down from a 1-in down to a 3/4.
This is causing a major restriction in the system, and as you guys know, if you don't know, that 43-100 100 pump is a big boy. That thing can move, you know, 50-60 gallons of water depending on your your head. Um so, it it's a big guy.
Um So, there's a bunch of problems here.
The 140 side not nearly as bad. They got some of the same issues, but what we are noticing is this water line's going cold under usage. So, it tells me that that check valve is probably bad. So, when they've got they're using everything in the in the laundry room, we're basically backfeeding the cold water right in. So, we're going to we're going to fix all of that.
And guys, there's a bunch of problems here.
We're going to present a good solution for this thing.
And um guys, if we get this one, we'll we'll show you what we get on the final, and show you how we're going to plumb this to use the building as storage. And guys, we'll see on the next one.
