[00:01:06]And it goes like this: Is this 1996 or is this 1999?

[00:01:13]Because the answer to that question is worth more to you right now than any headline about market euphoria.

[00:01:24]Let me start with the valuation picture, because this is where most of the alarm is coming from. And where most of the confusion is, too. There is a measure called the Shiller PE ratio.

[00:03:32]Not whether the market is expensive, but whether the conditions that could turn a correction into a crash are actually present right now.

[00:03:45]Because when you look past the valuation number and actually examine the economic backdrop, the picture looks a lot like the 1990s, and I mean that in a way that might surprise you.

[00:04:07]Despite the recent conflict in the Middle East, the economy has held up, and according to the Federal Reserve's own projections, that number could climb toward 4% in the second quarter of 2026, which would put us squarely in the same range of economic growth that characterized the mid-to-late 1990s expansion. Historically, over the last 40 years of data, the stock market has experienced strong bull runs precisely when economic growth is in this range.

[00:04:41]Markets tend to fall when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is growing steadily.

[00:04:59]Since mid-2023, they have kept rates stable and have gradually been bringing them lower.

[00:05:25]You might be thinking, "Okay, elevated valuations, but solid fundamentals and supportive Fed policy.

[00:07:33]That decline gave the Federal Reserve room to begin cutting rates.

[00:07:38]Everything looked like a safe landing.

[00:07:40]But since the beginning of 2026, inflation has reversed course.

[00:07:45]It has climbed back up from 2.4% to 3.8% moving further from the 2% target, not closer to it.

[00:07:55]That is the parallel that should get your attention.

[00:08:00]Not the retail inflows.

[00:08:03]This.

[00:08:04]If inflation continues to climb, the Federal Reserve may have no choice but to raise interest rates again.
