In telenovela narratives, characters often undergo significant transformation from family-oriented individuals to power-seeking figures, with Season 4 of Isitha: The Enemy exploring themes of betrayal, revenge, and the 'reckoning' where hidden truths come to light. The show examines how characters like Solomzi evolve from wanting to belong to seeking control, while others like Udabula Manzi struggle with identity and belonging. The narrative explores how relationships become toxic, families fracture, and characters must confront their true selves, demonstrating how dramatic storytelling uses character development to explore universal themes of power, loyalty, and self-discovery.

The Cast Of Isitha Season 4 - ElevateAdded:
[music] >> Hello highs and monani and welcome to today's episode of elevate brought to you by Gagasi FM. Today is a bit different. I'm sitting with a team from Isitha the enemy season 4 is finally premiered. You can catch it on e.tv, but we're going to talk a bit more about that as we move in. I'm sitting with Unathi played by UsMmangaliso. I'm sitting with Usolomzi played by Usenzo Khumalo and then lastly I'm sitting with the beautiful Luyanda playing Udabula Manzi on this season of season 4. All right, Luyanda I want to start with you.
You're new to season 4. How does it feel to join the team? Absolutely amazing and humbling at the same time. You know, I think because they paired me with somebody who I thought I'd only get to work with years into my career. You know, this is my first telenovela and having to step into a telenovela that has such big names on it and they received me so beautifully at that. I think it is really humbling and the storyline is also just magnificent man.
I think the writing is absolutely phenomenal with this season and I'm looking forward to just seeing everybody fall in love with Udabula Manzi as well.
Mhm, that's great. That's great. I want to come to you Solomzi. I don't know whether to call you Solomzi or Senzo.
>> [laughter] >> At this point, you know where you left us off this season. What are the challenges that your character is particularly going through facing as they enter into this new season.
Um remember Solomzi season 3 was hurt.
Mhm.
And um when I learned about Naledi and her relationship with Nandi is very toxic right now.
>> Mhm. You know, um I'm not sure if he's enjoying Mhm. the toxicity of the relationship or what, but um he has Inkinga Nomawaca, right? So I'm sure he had Inkinga burning building, right?
He's fighting the entire family regarding Yeah. They always want to They never see eye to eye, but more than anything else, he's fighting for control.
Fighting for control. Yeah, he's fighting for control. And we know that he's a man that really, really, really likes control. I want to come to you, Nandi, and I want to talk about the idea of enemies hiding in plain sight. That's the theme, the overall theme for this season. Do you think you come in as an unexpected enemy or an ally, actually?
Ooh, with Nandi, you never know. With Nandi, you never know. I think I'm more always the the ally because she's such a sweet girl. Like >> [laughter] >> It's Girl, you're new.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah. Like people will have drama and beef forever, but Nandi will say to you, "No, But there are also times where once you test her too much, you know? Like with how season 3 ended, I was meant to kill him. Mhm. I was going to stab him. Mhm.
And then when Kid Nasha, that's how things changed. Mhm. But before that, the aim like it was done. It was done.
So >> Yeah. Ooh, it depends on her. Yeah.
Yeah, it depends on her what you do to her. Yeah. Okay, and we see Sans of families are fracturing this season.
Um allies are shifting.
What do you think your character wants to achieve?
Um as I said, he wants control. He wants ways of total power.
He wants power more than anything else.
Um when we were introduced to Solomzi, he was the guy who just wanted to belong. Yeah. He wanted to be just be part of this Kumede family, you know what I mean? Even it's on to my work is giving like no, it's fine. It's fine.
You're my mother at the at the end of the day. But right now go season four he just wants power. He's like the only way is through money and control. Mhm. Yeah.
Luyanda, what do you think your character wants to achieve?
I think as >> [laughter] >> Mhm.
Um I think honestly speaking she's she's here for both because she's a troubled one, you know? So she doesn't have a sense of belonging and understanding of who she is. Mhm. She's still trying to find herself and you know what happens in a place where they're still trying to find themselves but by pulling in the midst of that.
>> Yeah. So I think a lot of families could potentially find themselves broken in the process of that. Um maybe a couple of relationships.
We don't know.
>> [laughter] >> You never know. Um but I think we saw how she betrayed Kamavovo to be strongly aligned or um loved by Vodabeka, you know? So we can't necessarily say that she's coming in as an enemy or she's coming in as an ally because she's serving both within the midst of the story but we have to just wait and see how it unfolds. Mhm. And you um Sbu Nkosi, what do you think your character is trying to achieve this season? I think it's similar to in the show Luyanda it's growth.
Guti, we in the story particularly are young women. Yeah. People forget how young Unathi is. It's just that she's been through so much in life that now she seems like she's older. I'm 24 looking. Mhm.
Guys. Mhm.
You know? So it's it's that. It's it's growth. It's I think this year is more of a year of each of our characters finding ourselves. You know, like Usolomzi said, he came in somebody innocent, somebody who was more family oriented, but now he has to find himself as Usolomzi. Who am I? Oh, yes. Oh, yes.
You know, that's what we're all faced with. Wuti, who are you?
Outside of Usolomzi, outside of the family, outside of who are you? Yeah.
And I mean, the story explores a lot of the theme around betrayal, um, but we see this season particularly a lot of truth that is going to come to light. Whose truth, and I'm going to start with you, Senzo, is your character threatening to expose in this season?
So, we titled this season, um, The Reckoning, right? Everything you have available, what you did to me 5 years ago is over now this time around, you know.
>> Okay. Um, Usolomzi one is exposing what even the people you thought were good people are not good people.
>> Okay. You know what I mean? It's especially when you threaten, um, their accountability, you know what I mean?
So, with Unandi, um, their relationship, I don't know. Khapela is over there inside the bus through Usolomzi, you know what I mean?
So, um, everyone is, um, accounting for izinto abazenzile.
Okay. You're new, obviously, to the season. Whose truth as we introduce Udabula Manzi into the into the story, whose truth is Dabula here to expose?
I'd say everyone that I come across, you know, because I can't really say uRebecca put that. I think people know how Rebecca is throwing threats at this point. Like, there's nothing that can surprise you about that woman.
>> [laughter] >> Um, so, but I think it's really just everybody who I'll potentially be encountered with, you know? I think within the story something happens between, um, uJafta and I, and I'm just like, "Oh, that's how you are, sir." You know? And then there's other situations that I have obviously can't really disclose right now that I think will really just show who to ban me or or in nearly in a bundle bubble and or in nearly in a bundle like it as well. So, now me I'm still finding my my my feet. Yeah. And when you finding your feet, you find yourself stumbling upon different mistakes that you make which then obviously reveal people's characters and let's see how that goes.
Yeah. Okay, in one word, when viewers first encounter you this season, revenge, ruin, or rescue? What is Nandi's overall theme?
Ruin.
Ruin, okay?
Revenge, ruin?
Revenge.
Revenge, ruin, or rescue?
Sure.
I mean, guys, you rescued Rebecca.
And Rebecca rescues her.
I'll say I'm the rescuer. You'd say you are the rescuer. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> You know, that's such a show.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, of course. Um I want us to go back to Spongin to Umshado Wenu Neno Neno Solomzi. I mean, I like it because it explores the theme of how black women in in specifics are represented in telenovelas. I just want you to take me through Do you think Uthie U Nandi is the most strongest woman that we've gotten to experience? Uh my word. I don't I actually don't. Mhm.
I think she has not allowed herself to grow enough. Mhm. You know, U Nandi has always had a husband or somebody to lean on.
Yeah.
Seven days, Nandi. I have my seven days.
>> [laughter] >> Like she she hasn't allowed herself to to grow. Like I like I was saying to find herself. You know, so that's that's just that's the difficult thing.
And then Solomzi, you spoke about the relationship with your mother this season from where we left off.
What do you think Solomzi wants from his mom?
At this point, absolutely nothing.
He doesn't want anything from her or anything.
You know what I mean? I think him leaving him leaving her in that burning building was him saying I'm done with you. You know, you've done enough. You know, and I kept on protecting you so much.
But this time around I'm good. I want to That's what I was saying. He wants to redeem Nonkanyiso back. He wants to be his own man. He wants power. I cannot be Nonkanyiso anymore.
And then and and then you Luyanda, I mean it's Africa month in the month of of May certainly we're celebrating Africa month. You get to explore themes around Isangoma in your character. What do you think that is bringing to the whole overall understanding of how we see Isangoma portrayed on TV, how we perceive them in our in our daily lives?
Jeez, um you know, when it comes to Thewulamazni, she got forced into Indwazongabazali.
And I think that's one thing that a lot of Africans also face. You know, you know, so I think having to explore the narrative behind being in a place that you don't belong in because somebody else thinks that's where you need to be. You know, and it's got this Ngingi. I think it also shows ukukhohlakala within that space and ngingenzeka as well because for example, uRebecca could have easily said, "Okay, I'll run with this narrative and I'm going to give you sangoma and make money out of it." Mhm. How many times do we find some videos of Bonga?
confirm what they said. Yeah. I think it's because people want to make money.
So, I think we're just having to to just explore that narrative around having to really understand what it takes to be a sangoma because you know, you're putting somebody who probably doesn't even want the life of being a healer. She just wants to explore herself as an individual like Fumbani Ngcaweni, you know? I think yeah, it's just it's just that narrative of finding out what happens when you put somebody in that space and she doesn't belong there. And if we're speaking about finding out finding out about herself, do you think she still wants to pursue her dreams? Of course, she does. I think that's the only motivation that allows her to even give Urika you know? Because Rebecca sold her the dream of Uthixo um for university to keep her alive.
Which basically means that the drive to pursue her dreams is still there. The drive for her to be just like every other child out there living a normal life is still there. And I think every single decision that she'll make, she'll make it because she was deprived of a couple of years of her youth and of and of her dreams and she'll want them to materialize so badly that she may end up hurting herself in the process as well.
Yeah.
You've got something >> trust Rebecca.
>> [laughter] >> We're going to come back to you, Smangele Nkosi.
We've seen you through the seasons fight for your family. That's been a very strong theme when it comes to you.
How's your relationship? I know he said it's giving very toxic, but how do you think Nandi sees their relationship right now after they got married?
Yeah.
I think it it is what he said. It would be very toxic, it's I don't know. It's that ever long >> [laughter] >> That's what this is. Yeah. I mean you know what I'm saying?
You know what I mean? So it's just For me from Nandi's point of view, I think she still really loves him. She does. Mhm.
>> Like I find that so Yes.
You know, there was nothing else in the world that was the same after that.
Yeah. But it's just how much they They just do these little things that sometimes it's really hard to come back from. But I think if anything we're fighting for our love more than fighting against each other. That's That's how it toxicity is to it now.
>> Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
>> you so much and it hurts.
>> [laughter] >> Yes.
Yes. I'm going to come to you Senzo with this one. Solomzi often believes that he can outsmart any enemy that he's presented with.
Does season 4 present him finally with someone who is going to be a worthy opinion opponent opponent? Um yes. Yes.
Yes. Yes. Here's the thing about Solomzi. He wants he cannot control what he cannot understand. You know what I mean?
>> Mhm. So and yeah about him, he wants to understand something then he finds way to dictate it. Yeah.
>> So now we're introducing Umapolova.
Someone who will not challenge you directly, but he will challenge you psychologically. He makes me fight against Uthumama, my brother. Yeah. You know what I mean? Mhm. And that alone you want to know that that one thing that really rattles him. Yeah.
Mhm.
Mhm. And if we're coming to you um Luyanda with your relationship with URebecca, do you think Uthie Dabula Manzi is loyal to Rebecca or they're just deceiving them?
I think she's loyal.
You know, but then there's a there's certain things that you do to an individual that could potentially end up changing the narrative. Mhm. You know, so we don't know how far Rebecca's going to go to ensure that all that woman is no longer loyal to her. Yeah. But for now, where she starts off, she's very loyal. I think the fact that she can betray Kamau for somebody who basically raised her in a way for somebody she doesn't know from a bar of soap, Mhm.
shows how much she was willing to to stick it out for this woman, you know, but at the end of the day, all Rebecca Kamau was a all Rebecca Kamau was a >> [laughter] >> And speaking of loyalty, Nandi, do you think Khumalo Nandi can still lean on the Khumalo family? Can she still rely on the family?
Ooh, the family one is a is a very complicated story because it's a it's a love-hate relationship. When they love us, they love us. Yeah. When they hate us, they hate us. Mhm. You know, it's but I think we we can always rely on them.
Whenever they come together, they come together. Mhm. When if one person gets hurt, everybody goes.
You know what I mean? Everybody pulls up. Everybody comes through. So, I think we can always rely on them, but just it depends on how they feel about you at that time. You know, we got uninvited to the wedding because Nkunku left.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay, guys, before we close things off, I want to us to give the viewers something.
Something that you know, that is on the board of almost getting you guys into trouble, but something that they can look forward to this season.
Can I start? Start.
I walked in on something.
Oh, yeah, you did.
>> Very dramatic. You really did. Okay.
Very dramatic. Give us more. No, no, no, it's it's it's it's something that um If anything, you know how much the viewers hate me now? Yeah. They're going to hate him for that.
I'm excited. Okay.
Okay. I don't think so.
>> Okay. I [laughter] don't think so. Let me tell you without telling you. Yeah, tell me without telling me. Especially Amageza. Amageza would like, yes, Okay. You know what I mean?
Mhm.
You understand? Okay. Yeah, so I'm telling you without telling you.
And I'm hearing you WITHOUT HEARING YOU.
>> [laughter] >> THAT'S THE THING.
>> OKAY. OKAY, GIVE ME YOUR >> THOUGH. SOLOMZI, give me your one.
What's the one thing that viewers can look forward to this season Um that you can say without saying?
See what you did there.
Um as I said, more than anything, he wants power and control, right?
Definitely And um things he cannot control.
Um three, him facing new enemies. Yeah.
You know what I mean? The moment he thinks he's got it, you know, and then everything just crumbles. You know what I mean?
Uh He cannot do anything for himself.
Where he cannot do anything for himself. Okay.
The people he hurt. Okay. To help him.
Okay. That was a good one. That was a good one. stranger, too.
You need a stranger.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. In other words, maybe.
>> Are you already giving me the something without giving me something? Give me something, Tebogo. Oh, >> [laughter] >> I get it.
Plus, plus there are going to be relationships that will be tested.
Through Tabula? Through Tabula.
>> Okay.
>> [laughter] >> e confusion your identity Mhm.
Um but You know so >> [laughter] >> Like I'm >> still just trying to figure out where she's going.
Got you.
>> Yeah. Got you. Okay guys, tell our viewers where they can find you. Where can they catch you Sitha? I know Mondays to to Fridays. Yes.
