This video demonstrates the process of joining a dually cab to a chassis, including installing custom adapters to clear brake calipers, addressing lug nut compatibility issues, routing wiring harnesses through pre-drilled firewall holes with grommets, and integrating interior components like Dakota gauges and carpet. The process requires careful planning, proper tool selection (such as air saws for painted surfaces), and systematic problem-solving when encountering challenges like thin lug nuts or component sizing issues.

Joining Dually Cab to Chassis | Shop Walk
Added:[laughter] >> Chris, why are you running?
>> Cuz I'm not this week.
>> We have a new host today, guys.
>> sure not me.
>> [laughter] >> Come on, Brandon.
>> I'm good.
>> You can start.
>> No.
>> Say welcome to the Trey 5 channel, guys.
>> Welcome to Trey 5.
>> Just count me >> Welcome to Trey 5.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> What's up, guys? We're back [music] here. Jeremy's on vacation, so we've been taking a really long break.
Um and now we're back at it cuz Ryan's here. So, now we got to film.
So, we're back.
We are working on getting this cab made it up to this chassis.
So, that's what we're working on.
We just got the adapters back today this morning.
These adapters from Michael's Truck Works. They had to be custom made to clear the calipers.
So, we got them on.
We're running into a lug nut dilemma in the rear.
But, we got to figure it out.
>> What is it? What was the dilemma?
>> Uh I ordered some lug nuts for it, and it ended up being that the they just weren't They were the right thread size, but the lug nut is too thin, and it's not working out how it should.
So, we're not going to run them.
So, we'll we'll put some other ones on and make it happen.
We are getting the rear adapters on.
We'll put the rear wheels on.
We'll make this thing a roller.
We'll get it on the ground.
We'll put the cab on the lift.
And we'll get the cab on the chassis.
Bam! Just like that.
Have you ever rolled dually wheels?
It's so funny to roll them because they want to do this.
No, you've never felt that?
Brandon does such a marvelous job about installing wheels. He gets down on the floor. He makes it happen. What do you need now? Lug nuts?
>> Lug nuts over here.
>> Uh-oh. What happened, Brandon? There's no juice. Why? Kill that battery over there? Check voltage at the battery.
>> I don't remember this.
>> [snorts] >> Did you forget a wire?
>> No, dude. What do you mean? It was just uh blending into the other wires, you know?
Hey, look. It works now. Just magically just uh fixed itself. Today, we found out that the AccuAir works.
And up we go.
Compressors are on.
You guys remember this Corvette?
We need to move it out of the way.
But, it actually came back from interior this week.
So, all the interior is done.
It's got new Dakota gauges.
Uh new stereo, new center console.
Uh new carpet.
And I think the door panels got re-wrapped.
So, nice that opens and stays open.
This is all done, carpet in there.
Close that guy.
And you have the hood.
We have new bump stops on it.
I used to have the spring-loaded bump stops. We took those out cuz the hood was still shaking, so we added just solid not solid, but just bolt-on um hood bumpers.
So, they're threaded, so we adjusted them to where it needs to be.
So, that's good. I dropped off the intake to get powder coated, so waiting for that to get back.
Little suitcase made.
Oh, there it is.
Hey, there's a subwoofer in there.
Oh, did you guys see that?
This is Do we push it?
Got to have an intake.
I forgot about that.
Harness.
We have to drill a hole for the harness.
So, we're going to do that right before we put it on.
We're going to do that now.
That way we're not messing with the shavings and stuff on the firewall or on the transmission.
But that way we can run these wires inside as we're putting it down and we don't have to like get in there and shove them when we're limited with space.
Remember, folks, measure once, cut twice.
But the real one is measure twice, cut once.
But sometimes we do measure once, cut twice.
>> Real I don't like the hole saw them because this is firewall's already painted.
So, it makes the firewall really hot.
Sometimes the paint will bubble close to the edge. If you air saw it, the heat is not concentrated on the full thing instead of just a little area as you're cutting.
So, that's the reason we like to do the air saw on a freshly painted firewall.
Hello.
Close.
Chris, you want to watch the front?
Please.
My goodness, you clear on that one?
>> Firewall light.
>> Huh?
>> Firewall light.
>> Um maybe if I lift this side up, maybe you can I'm pulling all the relays off and the back side of these connectors and cutting all the zip ties cuz um running because putting everything through this hole gets a little tight.
So, the more you can take off without having to re-pin stuff, the easier it is to get it through.
Push it in nice and slow, Chris.
Right there, maybe?
She's down, guys.
So, we have all our wires here that need to go inside.
So, we pre-planned on this one before we put the cab on and drilled a hole right here with the grommet.
So, we'll go ahead and run all these wires in through there, Then we can wire it from the inside.
This is all the chassis wiring.
Compressor, AccuAir, AccuAir controller, and taillights.
All going inside. We still need the the front section, so we'll either push them through there, run them through the fender, and then go forward.
But, once we get to the front and we put the fuse box in there, then we'll get to that.
All right, we got the cab squared. We got all the body mounts tied down. We got the wires inside. Now we can take it off the lift and get started on wiring.
I don't know that we'll start on wiring right away just cuz we have other things going on, but yeah, we can continue with it.
Speaking of other things, let's do a little walk around and show you guys what else we got going on cuz there has been some changes since Jeremy left. So, follow along. Well, first thing is like we talked about, we have the Corvette, which we need a few things, but it's getting there.
We're almost done with it. So, there's that thing and then that thing can go.
The Suburban, we need to finish mounting air compressors and mount the AccuAir tanks inside.
And then I think we're pretty close to being done with this thing.
So, we're trying to get that done. We'll probably get it done next week.
And then that one's pretty close. Moving on.
The next one we got going on, which has been getting a lot of work done to, has been Manny's Gen 2 Blazer.
A lot of sheet metal work done in the engine bay.
Um got it all laid out and we're kind of waiting on the we're going to do the quick latch buttons so that way we can quickly take this top panel off.
Chris will Did you hear the click? I did.
There it is again.
Chris is going to weld this so this becomes one piece so we have a flange here.
These again, I'm on it today huh guys?
The side or the inner fenders I should say are two-piece so these will be bolted on.
And again, >> [laughter] >> that's where we're at with Manny's.
We have TJ's back here. Let's go look at it.
We had a condenser for it and we were going to start mounting it but it ended up being a little too big and it wouldn't it wouldn't recess in here nicely which then in turn would not give us room for the heat exchanger.
So we ordered a new one. We're waiting for that to show up so we can finish mounting condenser and heat exchanger and then we can finish AC lines and supercharger lines as well.
I did make the intake on this one but Sal is tacking the bracket on it at the moment to support it off the fender but the intake will be good to go.
Inside, so we have a full in-dash. I don't know what kind of stereo this is but it's on a shelf.
So we have big and it's recessed in there.
There is the stereo in the back like the back section of the stereo actually has a lot of movement.
So the cool thing about this one which was really tight on the last one we did but the real cool cool thing about this one is you can angle it down quite a bit and get it away from the firewall.
We usually mount our computers and everything else on the firewall section with the panel.
So, that last one was kind of in the way a little bit. This one is kind of nice cuz it points down and this will have a a center console.
So, it'll all that stuff will be covered. So, this one will be nice.
We're getting pretty close on TJ's.
We have just like I said, condenser, stuff like that left to mount and then it'll be ready for paint soon.
We're thinking maybe July. So, we'll see.
If we come over here, we got some more things.
We have Sal tacking these Oh, what happened, Sal?
You got nervous?
Dude, it's going to be all right, dude.
It's going to be all right.
You don't need to get nervous.
>> I heard the fence that's going to go over >> Oh, okay.
So, if we come this way or that way, whichever way you want.
We have Chris working on Carlos's truck.
The firewall It's got bead roll on it. And actually, this one's not too close to the firewall, so that pocket didn't have to be too deep.
>> Trying to remove sound deadener so I can weld a new floor and trans tunnel.
>> How fun is that?
>> Oh, it's so much fun. This is actually stuck really well.
>> This is Chris's favorite part.
>> No. Not at all.
>> I see you got the heat gun over here.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Why is that?
>> Uh heating up my uh scraper thingy so I can get underneath of it because it's stuck to the floor really hard, so >> There you go.
>> It's >> So, that helps take it off, huh?
>> It does. Kind of melts it as it goes underneath of it, so.
>> There you go, guys. Lots of tech tips today, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> We're here to help.
>> It also help if they hadn't just kind of periodically welded some new sheet metal over rusty sheet metal.
Yeah, great great things.
>> to have to fix that.
>> Buy a truck from Barrett, they said.
Whoops.
>> We have the Ford over here, which we haven't started cuz we've been trying to get other stuff done, but that's going to be started on next week.
So, that's where we're at, guys.
Let's We're done. We're done here. Stick around for the next one.
Jeremy still won't be back, so you might still see me. I don't know. Maybe we can get Brandon to host. We'll see. Maybe Sal will host. He might have to speak up, but he might be all right.
>> [laughter] >> All right, guys. We'll see you guys next time.
Stay busy.
Peace.
