[00:03:01]Fellow supporter of the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America, that would be rap artist Waka Flocka Flame, who, objectively speaking, has one of the most entertaining videos I have ever seen with a signer at his show who he clearly does not know is a signer.

[00:03:26]But I digress. Waka Flocka, for some reason, was on Clavicular's Kick Stream and this is how it went. I don't think it's disrespectful. I think it's funny. Hold on. Hold on, Lil.

I mean, we are dealing with oppression, systemic racism, slavery, minstrel shows, and the response is >> [snorts] >> "You're just serious, bro." Like what the [ __ ] I'm friends with blacks, whites, purples, Mexicans, all of the above. Girls, boys, Indians, all of that.

[00:05:03]Purple is not a skin color. And what Paul is tapping into is two things, okay. The first is this. And so, color blindness fundamentally misses the mark by erasing something that's important to people's self-identity and people's self-love. Um and that's not the way to navigate through relationships, it's not the way to navigate through building community, but rather seeing me more fully and understanding um the lens through which I see the world or at least trying, making an attempt to do that, um is what matters to me.

Basically, if you or someone ever says they aren't racist because they know someone who is ex ethnic group, that person needs to understand that statement is not the free pass they think it is because that is exactly what he was trying to do. He was trying to get a free pass, and he really thought that Waka Flocka would go with it, and when he didn't, that is when he tried really spinning the entire conversation, gaslighting Waka Flocka in a flame to say, "You know what the problem is?

Like people are oppressed different you know, races, all of this stuff.

I mean, look, just something to consider. Back to Paul, as explained by Claire Corbould, an associate professor of history at Deakin University, the backlash for Drew Ski's whiteface parody of conservative white women ignores the difference in power dynamics, wrote Complex. Blackface minstrelsy, which emerged in the 1830s, just as slavery was beginning to disappear, punches down as a form of mass entertainment designed to degrade black people, while whiteface punches up to critique power, privilege, and entitlement. From BET.com, Druski is punching up. Druski is punching up at a political archetype that currently holds enormous cultural and institutional influence. Blackface punches down at a group that has been systemically marginalized for generations. That is not a subjective opinion about whose feelings matter more. That is the difference between satire and slur, between parody and harm. Paul asking, are we on the same playing field that Theophan is ironically the most revealing part of the whole exchange.
